I didn't expect to like the Mitsubishi Mirage. In fact, I expected to dislike it quite thoroughly. I thought it would be too tiny and too tinny for me to like driving it day after day. I turned out to be very wrong (a world first, I assure you), and the little Mitsubishi ended up working its way into my heart.

I find it fascinating that most reviewers piss on this car yet most owners report being very satisfied with it. I appreciate you were open minded and kept expectations consistent with price and it's target market. I would consider it for a second car for errand running.

These "professional reviewers" hate this car because they don't live in reality. They are always driving either expensive brands or the top trims. I heard press cars have been altered (more soundproofing, better quality control) though who knows how true that is. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. This is a perfectly good car. Easy to drive, park, maintain, and cheap on gas. Of course it's slow. It's a 1.2L 3 cylinder subcompact economy car. I don't know why people are surprised it's slow. It's perfectly fine for what it is.

I'm on my 2nd Mirage a 2018 SE with all the bells and whistles. 104,000 miles so far. Love the CVT...great mileage. Just got home from a 2,300 mile week-long trip with the Mirage doing 75-80 mph on the interstates....and the engine revs mostly below 3,000rpm except when climbing hills. Very comfy too. And I agree the Mirage is pretty wonderful in snow with it's stock skinny tires.....it just cuts through the snow. Amazing! EDIT 2/10/24 - THE Mirage now has 150,000 miles on it. Still has a nice ride, steering tracks straight and true. No rattles. Still great mpg. CVT is great!

I bought a 2017 Mirage G4 in 2017. It's one of the few G4 sedans I've found with a manual. My wife and i have driven the car over 120,000 miles and the only thing it's needed is tires, gas, and oil changes. The 78 horsepower doesn't seem to matter, as everywhere I drive it I'm stuck behind a car with more power that is going *slower*. I can confirm it's completely unstoppable in winter weather, where I live we get a few inches of snow with a polished ice surface underneath, and the mirage just zips around while people are sliding their luxury SUV's off the road.

I drove my 2017 5 speed to Thunder Bay and back last summer. 1400km one way cost me $82 at around $1.55/L for gas. It maintained 4.6L/100km the entire way driving a steady 105kph. Comfort was ok as I'm a pretty big dude. I also did the same drive in the past with a Ford Escape and GMC Acadia. Those were obviously more comfortable, but also a snore fest on a 14 hour drive. Also as far as comparing it to a used car: I couldn't get 0% financing on a used vehicle, and I've had to do zero repairs on this thing other than a ball joint after I slid into a curb on black ice. Only maintenance was oil, brakes, and tires so far.

I've had mine about a month after a year of research. I went for an SE which came with alloy wheels and winter floor mats. For going A to B with fantastic gas consumption, I'm in a rural area and get 5.4 L/100 Km. Mine is titanium grey but there's actually quite a few colour choices. Noise really isn't that bad and if you're a less aggressive driver the acceleration is acceptable even on an onramp to the highway. Best deal is 160,000 km powertrain warranty. I am certain the Chevy Spark will need a CVT replacement long before the Mirage. Like you point out in the video, real owners of this car love it.

I had a 2018 Mirage orginal owner for 3 years and traded that trap in last year. Got the transmission fluid changed at 40k and 80k miles. I really tried to take care of the car. The cvt transmission would overheat and put the car in limp mode starting at 50k miles. Dealership was bought out and rebranded but still sells Mitsubishi. Lead tech told me that they do repairs on the transmission the most out of any part on the car. They had my car three times for cvt work. They only really did something about it after I gave them a years worth of dated, time stamped videos of it going into limp mode. They replaced the fluid, filter, and something else under warranty. When I got it back, you could feel that the trans was slipping a little bit. Traded it in 2 weeks later.

Satisfied with my 2022 so far. Plus sizing to 16" wheels can improve fuel efficiency on the manuals as it changes/fixes the effective gear ratio and final drive to be much more in-line with Ontario speed limits. Car was made for Thailand so it got very short gear ratios. Increasing the actual rolling diameter of the wheel and tire combination by about 5% means that the speedometer now shows exactly the speed I'm actually going, and the gear ratios are about 5% better - resulting in about 5% better high speed fuel efficiency which is important in Canada, with less stop and go traffic and more highway/long-distance driving. I'm going to grab coilovers and sway bars for mine to improve handling feel and reduce body roll. I'm a track day instructor for Ontario and Quebec so I'm constantly road-tripping and I don't want to spend much on a car that isn't my race car so I got the Mirage as it's the most affordable car in the long run, once you factor in my 200,000 km optional/available warranty. I led a low-ish speed lead-follow exercise on a race track in my Mirage and genuinely didn't find it that bad. It went where I wanted it to, I just had to adapt to a lot of bodyroll. I've already changed the shift knob for one that's smaller and metal, it feels nicer to shift now, I can easily tell which gear it's in as the metal gives more feedback and definitely think that the reviewer's take on the shifter is because of the dulling/numbing of the plastic in the shift knob. Mitsubishi could absolutely offer one of these in a Ralliart trim package with stiffer suspension, sway bars, and a bit of an appearance package.
@greeneking77
@greeneking77 Жыл бұрын
But if you upsize the wheels doesn't that mean you have to get wider tires also, which will add more rolling resistance and decrease fuel economy?
@kristianhermann5971
@kristianhermann5971 Жыл бұрын
@@greeneking77 You can keep the section width the same, but increase the aspect ratio or wheel size to increase diameter. But the contact patch will lengthen and increase rolling resistance. It also raises ride height, which increases drag - not a good idea IMO - short gearing improves City MPG, so any perceived loss in Hwy MPG is offset provided you drive roughly 50:50 mix (like most)

We have a 2022 Mirage SE and I really expected to hate it. We bought it as a cheap commuter. I have a 2015 Ram 1500 hemi and my wife had a 2014 caravan. We’ve had the mirage for 3 months now and have over 10000km on it. I actually really enjoy driving it and there is lots of leg room, etc…. I’m 6’1” and not cramped at all. We’ve since sold my wife’s van as we stopped using it. We still need the truck to pull our boat. The things I dislike about the mirage are really trivial. 1. The low fuel indicator it does have one really. Just the digital fuel indicator blinks on and off but it’s almost at zero anyway so you often don’t notice it. 2. The electric fan for the radiator turns on and off way too fast, it will literally kick on and off every 2 seconds, it’s just going to wear out the relay fast. 3. We have the SE and it has Apple CarPlay but it only works wired and not over Bluetooth. 4. I would like the passenger front seat to also have an armrest That’s it. It’s a great car, I expect to be buying another one in the future

You can use bluetooth independently of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Just unplug it from its USB port and switch to bluetooth mode on your steering wheel. I also use my 12V outlet to charge my phone, as it's alot faster than using the USB outlet. My wife and I are on our 4th Mirages, a 2014 DE CVT, 2017 ES CVT G4 sedan variant, my current 2021 ES CVT, and I just got my wife a new G4 Black edition 2022. Reliability is a fantastic reason to own a Mirage. The JATCO CVT7 isn't stressed at all, like it is in Nissan products such as the Juke or Cube. 78HP and low curb weight equals exceptional cvt reliability. My 2014 I used for Uber ride share and I beat the dog shit out of it putting 100k miles on it in under 3 years. Never once did I have a CEL or any major issue, only a failing door lock actuator. I'd still be driving it today if I hadn't totaled it last December. The 3A92 engine is timing chained and has been in continuous production since 2003, so you know it's a proven engine design. I never experienced any oil leaks at all. The patented Mitsubishi RISE safety cage saved my life on the freeway, I walked away unhurt. It would of been a different story if I was driving a small car from the 90s. Folks who say these cars aren't freeway worthy are giant pussies, who've never owned one. I drove my old Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift rebadge across the country and it only had 60HP lol. My only complaint is that Mitsubishi part prices are expensive and that the aftermarket selection can be sparse. I also think Mitsubishi dealers are shady as hell but thank god I've never needed warranty work as these cars are basic but dead reliable.

I guess I'll just stay in the safe lane (if I even need to use highways). It would be my first car and I would happily show it off. Don;t care what people think. It's a price thing and the warranty covers 160k instead of 100k that nissan, hyundai etc offer.. so youd have that confidence in it. I have had to absolute zero except maintenance, which is almost none. It doesn't burn a drop of oil even with me driving it 80+ on the highway. It sounds....kinda of good?? It sounds like a v6 and not buzzy. It has plenty of torque and I even from time to time outrun trucks 0-60 who are actively trying to outrun me. Even v8 ones. Bear in mind that, statistically, fatalities are much higher in lighter, smaller cars like the Mitsubishi Mirage than in heavier, larger SUV’s, crossovers and trucks, which are the most popular vehicles today. In fact, nearly everything on the roads are going to be larger, heavier, and more substantial than the Mirage, which is going to directly affect your chances of surviving a major collision. Despite all of the appeal of the Mirage’s low-price and high-mileage, do not ignore the minimal protection and survivability that is offered to you by such a diminutive car. Price and mileage is important, but your life and those of your passengers should be your utmost priority, especially given the way other people out there drive.
