💯💯💯 I totally agree.. And its frustrating, but u can't even be mad cause they are well intended, but until u live it, u don't get it. I used to say it too. Then I went thru it. And when I would leave, mine, my mothers, and my sons lives would be threatened and various horrific things.. In graphic detail.. The police couldn't help.. I literally told a cop that maybe when I was found dead because of him, my mom would be able to get the law changed and it would be able to save others going thru what I went thru. I mean.. I don't wish it on ANYONE, but if u don't know, u don't know, and u should keep ur opinions to urself and just be glad ur not the person in the story ur listening to. And I'm SO grateful to Bailey for highlighting this.. I honestly love the person she is. And for anyone going through it right now, I will keep u in my prayers..

Awesome! This year makes 14 for me. And wow saying it out loud makes it seem like it was so long ago but it feels like it was recent. The effects are still very fresh in my mind even though I have since moved on, had 3 kids and been with the same man for 10 years. I was 14 when I started dating my abuser and 21 when I finally left him. My entire teenage years were ruined because of him. And being a child made it sooo much harder. You'd think my mom and family could've protected me but when I would run away and chose him over them what were they supposed to do?? My mom didn't know the extent of my abuse and thought I was just being an unruly teenager and I was sent to live with my grandma, which made it that much easier to see him and be with him. Sorry for pouring my story out to you but thanks for listening.... No one else around me (besides my fiance) knows just how bad it was for me.

Warwick's 23-month trial was concluded on 6 April 2020, with the verdict pending. Justice Garling noted, "I can inform the parties that it will take a considerable period of time." On 23 July 2020, Warwick was found guilty of all offences for which he was charged, except for the shooting of his brother-in-law Stephen Blanchard. On 3 September 2020, Leonard Warwick was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The worst part of being in an abusive/controlling relationship is that the victim feels helpless, & is afraid that they can't make it on their own. It doesn't help if there's no family or no shelters available, their fears are justified. But once they get the chance to get out, they can breathe.

Yaaaas. I thought that was really respectful. I've been in an abusive relationship and I have no idea why I stuck around for 2 years. I think it was because I wanted someone who would abuse my foster sister like she verbally abused me...I thought I loved him, but I really must have just been holding on to him because I owed him for saving me from her. I think I was more likely to grt hit by her than by him, but it was getting pretty close in both cases.

Thank you so much for talking about how abuse affects your brain. When somebody goes through trauma, the frontal lobe shuts down to protect itself and so it's hard to even talk about it. When survivers try to talk about it it doesn't even make sense because the the part of the brain that makes executive decisions and uses logic and all that it isn't working. Also in an abusive relationship the cycle of abuse the love bombing the gaslighting the defamation the discarding all that triggers hormones in your brain and survivers get addicted to it and it's hard to give that up.

@lelnope30 4 жыл бұрын
@@riordanparata5243 Yes, everyone can suffer from abuse. Women's issues are just highlighted more because, historically, we have been considered property for the vast majority of the existence of civilization. There were no laws protecting women until relatively recently and there still aren't in many countries around the world. It has been and still is encouraged by some cultures. When people say "women", please understand why. It's the same thing with issues like Black Lives Matter. Yes, all lives matter, and that's the entire point they're trying to get across! But people are so hung up on the word "black" that they can't see that they want the same thing we all want - for EVERYONE to feel safe and for EVERYONE to feel like they matter. People seem to think that history has absolutely nothing to do with modern-day issues, but social progress is incredibly slow. There are people who are alive and in power right this moment who were around when women's and civil rights weren't taken seriously yet. We are not that far from those times, and it's dangerous to pretend that we are. My point is, I'm sorry that happened to your father. Our culture is progressing to a point that male abuse is being taken more seriously now. But also please understand the reason why we place more emphasis on marginalized and vulnerable groups. They're the most at risk.

@@lelnope30 This is beautifully and clearly expressed. One of my first housemates was beaten by his girlfriend... and then years later I dated and then got engaged to a man who was viciously treated by his ex and the mother of their child (I still recall some of the horror he went through as she continued to abuse both their child and the system)... yet based on the experience of others I have read about; known; and myself, I also understand the need to keep strong focus on female victims of male violence (or, indeed, the victimisation of any minority people at the hands of members of a majority). What saddens me terribly, in addition though, is the fact that the people most at risk of male violence are... other men. Especially young men, and often at the hands of other young men. It should be seen and known, and bears repeating.

I will say that as an abuse survivor, the abusive partner usually controls the money, cuts the person off from family and friends, and convinces them they are worthless. Add in if they have kids, no money, no family or friends, leaving is terrifying for so many reasons. Not to mention, as abusive as they be, they always have that upside where they 'feel bad' and sweet talk promising its the last time.

Ada Florescu same! I’ve read about how your brain literally betrays you in those situations. Also abuse is a cycle, sadly, so it repeats itself until someone takes it upon themselves to break the cycle. I can only speak for myself, I grew up extremely abused. My “dad” was completely sadistic. Abused me in every way you can abuse a person. Just one example to keep this as clean as possible; physically violent while sexually abusing and making fun of me for crying. I was 6 years old. It started as early as my memories and continued until I left the home in my teens. I found myself in abusive relationships not because I consciously sought it out but because it was what I was used to. If someone was nice for too long it felt too weird to me. There is hope! As of 5/25/17 I am 100% abuse free and never pass on standing up for myself. Please feel free to contact me if you want or need to talk about any aspect of this issue. I sincerely love helping others 💕 (any and all conversations can be anonymous and everything will stay between us)

Oh, i remember way back then, my mom had this one employee that was abused.. she would come to work with bruises on her arm and body.. the husband was smart to not hit her face but once he did so we knew... and for years, we try to talk her to leave him and she did, but he always found her and drag her back home.. and he's "friendly" with the police so you know how that goes.. after a few failed attempt, we (my mom and some of her friends) just collet some money and gave to her, and told her to bring her kids somewhere far far away and not even contact any of us to tell us where she go so that no one would accidentally exposed where she went.. so like, more than 10 years later, my mom got a letter from her saying that she's remarried and have a job... so we're glad she's doing ok and her husband never found her..

I love you Bailey Sarian! I can't listen to this story rn. I recently got away from my abuser and I have been diagnosed with PTSD due to emotional trama. I am having nightmares and I hear his voice in my head saying he is "watching me. Where I go I can't hide". Hopefully I'll be able to come back and listen to this story. I haven't been through the divorce yet and I have kids so I am scared about a lot of things still. Thank you for standing up for people who have been and still going through abusive relationships!!!

Australian, parents started divorce in 2006 (didn't end until 2011), family court system sided more with my father, he claimed my mother was "unfit" and had planned "abandoning" him for a long time (she had left with all his debt paid, and no money for herself). The judge had told my mother he would send her to prison if she tried to claim custody again. Australian court system is a joke guys and gals.

70% of women who are killed by abusive partners are killed within the first two weeks of them leaving. Thank you for sticking up for us survivors. ❤ Edit: I was put in the hospital multiple times by a partner before I finally got enough courage to leave him while he was out getting cigarettes. So seeing so much support for this comment means alot ❤❤🥺🥺🥺 Edit: leaving your abuser increases your risk of death by homicide by 700% which is a terrifying statistic.

It's a different type of manipulation where you feel like you just can not ever escape that abuse and you do in fact feel like you deserve it all. I've deffinetly been a friend who would not understand why you can't just leave? And then I found myself on the other side being completly gaslighted and abused by my bf AND still unable to leave him. Took me almost 3 years but I'm still grateful and proud of myself that I was able to do it. My love and support to everyone who suffered an abusive relatshionship
