Thank you for posting. My aunt, Sandra Morris, took part in this. She appears on the 'trying on the cap' scene at 2'21". She sadly passed away last year and it is in going through her personal possessions I discovered some photos of the filming and looked up this film. Great to keep social history alive in this way.

When traffic wardens were traffic wardens not income generators.

I like watching videos of England during this particular era. My parents lived there from 67-70 and they always raved about how it was such a wonderful place to live versus NYC.

I think the senior wardens 50 years ago would've seen active service in WW2 ..... they look ex military ...decent

we no longer have traffic wardens today they had more power then the parking attendants today they were employed by police forces now the local council either employs or subs it out to a private company

I know everyone hates traffic wardens but if we didn't have parking restrictions then towns and city's would grind to a halt and emergency services couldn't get through

I spat my beer out when she said people would be surprised to learn traffic wardens walk two miles a day like that’s a massive distance. Two miles is absolutely nothing. She must’ve spent most of her working day in Soho cafes drinking coffee.

I always like to put the amounts in inflation calculators. £16.00 pay per week in 1968 is about £347.76 per week in 2024, £18.083.72 per year in 2024, US$22,966.07 or about $11.04 per hour. The 6p per 15 minutes in the meter is £1.30 per 15 minutes today, £5.20 per hour or $6.60. Not enough pay if you ask me. Be nice to the traffic warden. I wonder if the 19 people all lined up so politely and dressed nicely to watch the argument at the start of this film, would step in if they start punching each other (it's the way things are now). Anyway, parking meters still don't give change, but they now take credit cards.
@HeyLaserLips3 жыл бұрын
I remember those old meters as a kid as they were still around in the 80s, and always wondered what the difference was between the yellow "Excess Charge" and the red "Penalty". These days it seems that you can be just a minute late and you're straight on to a penalty. xD
