Finally! We have access to the entire world thanks to our shiny new airship :D Our first stop is Cactuar Island where we get to recruit a brand new GF, Cactuar! Jumbo Cactuar might have a reputation for being one spikey foe, but with the right strategy in place he's as blunt as a party knife!
Once we have the Guardian Force I explain the new abilities and then sort out which party member gets which GF as we have quite the collection now...

I remember being in primary school like year 5 or 6, playing this game. Never got past the final fight on disk 3, completely misunderstood the junctioning system, and fought exclusively with GF attacks. I remember leveling all my characters up to 100 and still having regular battles be near impossible. 15 odd years later picking it up again and playing the way it's meant to be played (exploiting the junctioning system to the point of being almost too OP lol) and I'm having the time of my life!

Kamikaze ejects the party member for the rest of the battle, can't use Phoenix Down for that

Yeah, it’s weird in this game. You defeat JUMBO Cactuar and Tonberry KING, but what gets summoned is a normal cactuar and tonberry. A tad lame…

Why split up GF ifrit siren carbuncle and leviathan? Together u have str bonus mag bonus vit bonus and spr bonus, then put cactuar on someone else, now 2 party members have all 4 stat boosts whe they level up, when someone goes up a level u SWITCH the stat boosts they have to whoever is leveling up next, rinse and repeat

when i fought it, it did 10,000 needles lol. but that was the only attack cuz i used lionheart limit break and went to town on it. by the way i had to restart my game from the beginning which sucks cuz i was in Ultimecia's castle

So i have not seen your channel before and was just looking to see how to encounter the cactuar king... how on earth are you lvl 11? Im so confused hahha, i barely do any fighting and im currently lvl 36 and im at the point where i should be going to the white seed ship.

I want to know how his HP is so high? I have 8 GFS maxed out on abilities and my highest HP character is only at 5200...and I am level 40

3:44 Like I Said That "10000 Needles" Attack He Does Is A CounterAttack. He Never Really Uses It On His Own. That's Just Like When I Defeated JINX In Super Mario RPG With The Consecutive 100 Super Jumps! He Didn't Get ONE TURN In! I Did My First FF8 Stream Today For 2+ Hours It Went Very Well. Got All The Way To The Dollet COMM Tower. There's A NEAT LITTLE TRICK You Can Do With Odin When You Battle Him, IF You Do: If You KILL HIM And The TIMER REACHES 0:00(You Mus Use Something That Has An Ongoing Animation Like Squall's Limit Breaks Or Zell's Duels), You Can Get INFINITE Luck-J Scrolls As Well As STOCK Triple, Provided You Draw AND Mug Him. The Game Counts As You LOSING But You STILL Get The Battle Spoils And Stuff, And The Game Returns You To The World Map Outside Centra Ruins. A GREAT WAY Of Farming Luck-J Scrolls.

Doomtrain if you have him is good to use agenst jumbo catruar just cuz of the status casts then just rensokunon him to death just wach out for 10,000 needles

mmmm Pretty nice GF distribution, but im gonna have to disagree on 1 thing, Why give diablos (who has Hit-J) to Squall, who already has 255% acc ?? The rest of GFs just make sure to give each party member Status and elemental attack and the rest can be learned through items i think.

Good point, I think its dumb to split up the 4 GF with the str mag vit and spr boosts, keep those on 1 guy, cactuar on another (who comes equipped with those 4 stat boosts) and just alternate every time you level up so that each time someone levels up they have all 4 stat boosts on to maximize everyone's stat

You have to go into Status > Squall, and A several times to bring up his limit break. The indicator can be set to Auto, which it sounds like you did at some point, or manual. Manual makes it so that you have to hit R1 at the right time to fire the revolver on the gunblade for ~ +30% damage.

Why would you junction your GFs so that any of your characters didn’t at least have all five basic junctions at this stage in the game? For that matter, why would you give both Squall and Selphie Hit-J? IMO better set-ups at this stage are: [1] Quezacotl, Brothers, Doomtrain, Tonberry [2] Shiva, Siren, Diablos, Pandemona, Alexander [3] Ifrit, Carbuncle, Leviathan, Cerberus And just stick Cactuar wherever, really. Generally on whoever’s going to level next if you’re letting yourself gain any experience, or if not, on whoever benefits the most from criticals (generally Zell or Irvine). You can use the Stat Guard from the Shumi Village quests on one of the GFs from setup [2], and that way everyone has ST-Def-Jx4, ST-Atk-J, the five basic junctions, and Spd-J and Hit-J on setups [2] and [3]. You’ve got Spd-J Scroll from Lunatic Pandora by now, and access to Strength Love and Power Wrist if you want Spd-J, Str+20%, and Str+40% on setup [1], which I recommend for Squall. If you don’t mind modding the Selphie card, you can get Elem Guard for Elem-Defx4 on setup [3], though that’s not as critical as most of the rest of this stuff IMO.
