This is exactly what I needed to understand the purpose of joints and the mobility needed to ease poses and be respectful of where your body is right now - thank you David and Stuart 😀

This is such a wonderful video. I actually started feeling some slight pain outside my left knee and I particularly feel it when trying to get into half lotus or full lotus. I’ve always been tight in my hips so I guess this explains I’ve been torquing that knee. I really hope though that in due time, I will be able to do these poses effortlessly

Thanks David and Stu. There seem to be multiple poses called "flamingo pose". Would you bend forward in flamingo pose or just bring the knee of the extended leg in?

Wow, thank you so much for this video. I'm just about to head off to practice I recently hurt my knee from a poor adjustment, but my technique going into these poses has been weak and less than gentle up to this point. This will definitely be implemented into my practice starting with this morning. Have a great day everyone, and thanks again.

I have a number of imbalances, and have even refused some teachers adjustments if I can see they are over zealous... there's no rush.

I totally agree with you about there being no rush, sometimes I think teacher's are very invested in their students and they just want you to progress and it can literally be an extra few pound of pressure that can cause an injury. Its healing up nicely so no real harm done and a lesson learned, I'l be a bit kinder to my body. Off to practice have a good day.

I’m dealing with the very knee pain he described. And he’s right, I rushed and tweaked the knee in lotus ....I’m working around the injury best I can.....frustrating isn’t a strong enough word at this time ..🤨

Question: As a beginner who has so tight hamstrings, that I can barely do a 90 degree forward bend with a straight back, is it better to just do sun salutation only and nothing else until I become more flexible? In classes here even beginners are supposed to do the whole primary series as much as possible. It is not logical to me. I thought in Ashtanga, one is not supposed to move ahead until one has mastered the previous asana. I'd be very thankful for some advice :)

i think its probably because you're going to a led class (so everyone has to do the same thing) whereas when you get taught Mysore style everyone goes at their own pace and gets given individual feedback. it is good to practice salutations although i would also starting a little stretching routine that you try and do once a day or as much as you can. These stretches can change depending on what part of your body you feel needs most work at that current period of time. Since you are a beginner I would advise focusing on the backs of the legs first. You could look up some stretched but I know one good one I used to do was lying down on my back with either end of a strap held with both hands, pushing the strap with my legs straight (or the leg not getting stretched can bent to make it easier). Pull strap towards you and bring your leg back and try snd straighten your leg while remembering to breath. Your leg will naturally become bent as you bring the foot towards you which is why you stop pulling every once in a while to straighten the leg again. If I were you I would be careful not push yourself too hard in the more advanced poses as this can leave to likely injury. Hope this helps (I am not an teacher by the way so you may be able to get better advice from asking).

I'd recommend doing supta patangustasana with a strap/belt:towel around the foot after your sun salutations before savasana ;)
