In this video, we are going on a bit of an adventure. We're walking into the forest looking for old Jefferson, Tennessee -- a town that no longer exists, and the story of what happened to it is fascinating. I'll tell you all about it.

Love this! I grew up off couchville and still love exploring all the woods by the lake. From stories I've heard, my great great grandpa and his brother bought twin sisters off the trail of tears and they were the first of the Koda tribe around here. I love learning all the history of our town. Thank you for sharing!

Hello! I live on Jefferson Pike. As you are walking are you walking toward Smyrna? There are places I can walk in the back part of my property and reach the river. Also several years ago college students came by and asked if they could look in my backfield because according to their maps, we have an old cemetery kind of in the back corner but of course, nothing was ever found. But just recently I was digging for a flower bed in my front yard and I swear we found a piece of an old headstone just simply by the white marble with beveled edges might not be but it sure looks like it. I love the history of Jefferson it's so amazing. They also used Jefferson Pike during WWII for training well the Walter Hill area they said the landscape was similar to the landscape of Germany. Thank you for this great video. Sorry for being long-winded lol.

Thanks for the nice comment! Yes, I was walking in the general direction of Smyrna. Follow the footpath past the water plant and it goes back into the woods.

I lived in Murfreesboro for 23 years. Had no idea this place existed. What a shame. And I will say it again...you seem to go to many places that have a close connection to me!! Maybe I should tell you where to go next 🙂 Keep up the awesome adventures.

My 4th great grandfather had a 120 acres near here-I have the original deed…my daughter and I and her dog hiked this-I don’t like poison oak/ivy or chiggers-need snake boots like you said-so fascinating!! Thanks for posting 😊

Thank you for the silence in your videos. By not talking (hardly) and allowing the natural ambient sounds to come through, you're not imposing on the landscape. We see/hear it as it is. This is rare in KZfaq videos and why I love seeing/listening to the places you explore.

So cool. That road reminds me of what is now called "The Graffiti Highway" and is the road into the abandoned town of Centralia, Pennsylvania. It's was a coal mine area where the coal started burning underground and undermined the entire town. It's still burning today. Seems like the spiders have your number recently! Well, fantastic historic tour Keith. Thanks for taking us along.

I went yesterday and couldn’t find much, just broken bottles and miscellaneous items like you did. The land is mostly for hunters now.

@@Keithdotson from all the research I did, basically the only thing that remains is foundation of a building. I imagine with the elements and nature if would be about impossible to find. They even moved 5 cemeteries in that area to mount juliet memorial gardens.

Great video with a lot of interesting history. That opening path through the woods looked like a scene from "The Walking Dead". I was wondering how far you walked that day. Were you disappointed with what you found? It amazes me how often you find a dump site in out of the way places; they seem to be everywhere. Once, about 30 years ago, I was hiking near a lake and I found the remains of an old (very old) car. No all that unusual, I guess, except there were no roads within miles. Thanks for taking us along on your exploration!

Hey thanks for watching Terry! I wasn't disappointed -- just the opposite -- I was shocked that I actually found anything. I had no idea what I was getting into on this walk and I fully expected everything to either be gone completely, or hidden under vegetation. I couldn't believe my luck in finding what I found. However, I didn't get as far as the main townsite or downtown Jefferson where the courthouse would have been. I think I'll go back in winter and take a mountain bike to make the trip deep into the region much faster. I have no idea if anything is still there.

@@Keithdotsondid you ever go back and find anything?? I live nearby and have been wanting to go check it out. I especially want to see if there are any visible remains from the bridges. (Or if it’s at least obvious where they were.)

Are you from middle tn? I enjoyed your video on old jefferson. I do a lot of fishing on both east and west fork of stones river. And have visited a lot of these places. Let me know if I can help. There is so much more there.
