I didn't leave myself much time to record and edit the video for tonight. But that is sometimes a blessing as it stops you from being too precious about your painting and just go for it. Producing lovely free brush marks and a painting that you could never have produced if you thought about it and went about it in a detailed methodical way! I'm really happy with this seascape. We have so many storms at the moment on the coast that this is what I have been seeing everywhere at the moment!
I would just love it if you joined me on Patreon! The link is below!

The light in the sky is so bright that I have to close my eyes. The water is so deep and dark and the horizon so sharp. This painting is much more better than any real foto. It is magic....

Was a bit sceptical about the darkness of the water, against the light in the sky, and white clouds. Then you altered the water… and it came together ❤️ Looks a bit like ice floating in the water. Fabulous!!!

I put some bleed proof white in while I was drying it (any completely white bits) and then scratched out with the razor blade! I know though they actually look pretty good despite looking nothing like waves when I first put the cobalt turquoise on and the first application of the bleed proof white when it was still wet! 👍👍👍

HI Socrates! Yes the drying process is so important. If you don't and you keep dabbing and dabbing you loose the luminosity and the beautifulness of watercolour easily. A soft touch not too many times and drying are really important! I'm glad it helps to watch! Happy painting!

@ScottSwinson
@ScottSwinson 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mika! The white was PH Martin's Bleed Proof White. It is good because once it is dry it does not go everywhere as easily. It will still bleed when wet as you could see here!

Another beautiful piece Scott. As always your mastery of the light makes it so dramatic. How do you avoid the dreaded green sky? Even when I use the hair dryer I often get it. Gorgeous. Thank you!
@rosemaryclark610
@rosemaryclark610 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not Scott, but if you don't mind I will share some ways that might help. Don't let the blue and yellow touch. Dry the yellow before adding the blue. Use a transition color, like Opera pink, or neutral tint, that is safe with both yellow and blue, in between them, to prevent green. Anyway, hope that helps. Those are the things I do to prevent the green sky.

@@rosemaryclark610 Thank you Rosemary, I appreciate your generous reply!

Hi Louis, I was aiming for a very slight tendency towards green in this sky. I suppose there are a few things. The winsor yellow was quite weak in the initial wash then the cobalt blue and light red mix mostly went around the yellow then the mix of winsor blue (red shade) and light red mix was very strong so it was never going to be turned to green when that strong. Only where I used it more lightly was it a possibility. Also by spraying out then drying before adding the second layer of yellow I have the yellow something to attach to (some white paper). Hope that helps. 👍👍
