In this clip, Lord Jamar and DJ Vlad discussed the history behind rappers turning actors and how most times artists tend to lean toward the Hollywood money versus the music industry. They noted rappers like Ice Cube and LL Cool J as two examples of rappers that made the transition to acting and are probably more known for that than their careers in the rap game. Lord Jamar and DJ Vlad also spoke about Pac and his potential as an actor. The two delve deeper into Ice Cube not getting his just due as a lyricist because of his acting career and how he compares with someone like Nas.
Later on, Lord Jamar discussed Nas' recent investments and how he probably downplays his wealth in order to avoid dishing out more to Kelis for child support.

Two very different themes but Nas still sounds monotonous. Nas might be the better lyricist to Cube but that’s about it.

Old School 4 LF understandable considering you got Nas as your avatar but Cube is just more consistent considering the fact that’s he’s been in the game for 30 years and hasn’t released anything bad let alone average. Nas on the other hand has released a fantastic debut album and a couple of very solid albums but some pretty trash albums like Nastradamus and Untitled. Both are two completely different styles but they are two legends in the hip hop game.

Between Cube and Nas records, I’ve got Illmatic #1 and then Cube has spots 2, 3, and 4 with his 1st 3 albums. Probably listened to Cube’s 1st 3 albums more than anything during that album run from 1990-1992.

Cube is cold, like savage raw on his lyric & he got nice beats, stuff you'd bop your head for... but most of Nas rap made people who listen to his stuff think. Cube's rap mostly entertaining and go quick like bang bang and that's it... Nas rap is sorta philosophical that pulls some close attention to the message in the lyrics. You can take 80% of Cube's tracks for the club playlist but there aren't many of Nas tracks suitable for club mood but rather fits in the political and community columns in newspapers.

Nas as a rapper is the best there is. His lyrics, skills and delivery is top notch; up there with Biggie, Pac, Pun, etc. But Nas doesn’t seem to be too much into the business side of things. That’s why I still feel like Nas is an underground rapper; it feels that way, and I like it.

in rapping, your voice is your ink in handwriting. Cube voice is like a marker & Nas voice is like a #2 pencil. Maybe even a #1 pencil. When I 1st heard Gangsta Gangsta, I had to look out the window to see if that NWA was outside. Not even 2pac came out that hard. Nas catalogue is like the Marvin Hagar of lyricist. He quietly keeps coming at you with so much music to were he overwhelmes you. I think that it's safe to say that a lot Nas music has aged better than Cube's.

Nas is more of a philosophical type dude and poet, while Cube was more of a street cred gangsta rapper. Lyrically in terms of deep and meaningful, Nas takes it. But in terms of repping the streets and showing attitude, Cube over Nas. But why does Vlad have to make it about who's better? Thats just a spectator's chump game. They're both great.

ice cube can actually do a concept album like death certificate while it seemed nas tried to do that with hip-hop is dead he had like 5 tracks that fit the subject then it just went out the window! if hip-hop is dead was an e.p people would consider it a classic.

I'd find it hard to make space for Ice Cube in my top 20. Technically he was still on that rhyming couplets shit while New York dudes were using multi syllable internal rhymes and rhyming in different time signatures. And lyrically he was still on some Dr Seuss shit while guys like Nas, Biggie and Jay were spitting scriptures. Vlad is a casual fan. His taste in rap is the same as every girl I've ever dated... they like catchy songs that are easy to understand. Anything too complex goes over their heads.

Cola James if you go into their primes there coming from different perspectives, one is giving an account of LA street life, the other is coming from a New York state of mind! I think Nas is more of a street poet, while Cube style is so West Coast Gangsta! Nas to me is more lyrical while Cube is more aggressive with his delivery ! So for me I guess it's just what you're in the mood for because both are two of the best Emcees that ever rocked the mic!✌️
