The amount of mass produced, watered down music today that's so easily accessible will quickly reach to the masses within hours. I'm sure if you have tidal or any other streaming service, you get notified when whoever you're following drops a new song or album. Of course overtime 24 hr music 'playing' on the radio became popular, as did various genres and more unconventional acts. Even by the 90s, music still had substance...I guess my opinions also come from my personal taste and quality of music. I can go on and on, these are just my opinion. I wasn't there during those times, but there's clearly a difference; and many can argue just evolution, in the acts of lets say, Nat King Cole and Miguel and how they gained fame and how their content of music affected the masses. Today is V-day and I heard Nat King Cole's Love in Target, I don't know if we'll hear Miguel's Sure Thing playing in stores 50 years from now because new content is put out constantly, allowing us to forget about what song or album was #1 just 2 weeks ago. Sorry this was long. Just some thoughts.

I put that in quotes because the definition changes depending on generation. While it is easier to achieve a number one now, staying relevant truly does take effort.
