Lord Jamar: People Who Like Lil Yachty are Actually Stupid

DJ Vlad: "It's not lyrical... but it is melodic...." So are Nursery Rhymes... is that where we are now?
@damianscott59337 жыл бұрын
welcome to the only genre where we accept "the lowest hung fruit". Try calling yourself a rock band, get on stage and scratch the guitar strings to a load of noise, then call it 'screech music' and see if the rock fans accept you for 'it is what it is'. Its pathetic that we are willing to not have standards for an art-form that we love. And THATs why hip-hop is devalued.
@damianscott59337 жыл бұрын
***** by that comment I can understand why Yachty and those guys appeal to you 👌
@damianscott59337 жыл бұрын
***** the fact you can't even comprehend metaphors and symbolism when approaching lyrics is why lil Yachty would appeal to you. Let me guess you also think "White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane" is about a white rabbit they saw in a zoo somewhere? 😉
@YamahaR120157 жыл бұрын
Damian Sounds I think the issue lies in it all be considered a single genre... Lil yatchy makes music...it appeals to ears as much as I hate to say it. But he ain't rapping...that isn't rap. I don't give a fuck what Google says rap is. rock and rap are very similar so why is it OK for rock to have a million sub genres and rap can't?
@damianscott59337 жыл бұрын
***** man if only Yachty and those guys took as much effort into writing lyrics as you did in defending them, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. 😄

I get what LJ is trying to say. Drake isn't mumbling he's actually saying something (a whole lot of nothing) but he's saying something. Whereas these other "rappers" are out here being incoherent and relying on melodies. So in that sense it's easy for Drake to shine as the "biggie" or "Tupac" of this generation. It's easy to look smart in a room full of dummies

Bits Rep The last 6 mins were proof that jamar is spitting the truth not many nowadays will do this but whether you like it or not he's straight shooter and he's right especially when Vlad tried to say drake has taken big/pac over which he was implying, what the fuck is he on about, match drakes best song versus any top 10 of pacs or biggies, Vlad always talks about the sales and more hits bullshit but ice ice baby was probably more successful than anything drake has done but is vanilla ice regarded as a great or even good

@westindian107 жыл бұрын
Posta Da King starting? he been doin that shit..damn shame too
@ballinglikechoji65587 жыл бұрын
Posta Da King in my opinion, and I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just saying how I see it. keep in mind *I believe being a culture vulture is a real thing and it can be a big problem.* being a culture vulture is when you completely rip off another cultures art then pretend like you invented it, not showing respect to it, while (most of the time) hating or not caring about the culture that actually made it... there's a difference between a white or latino guy reporting on rap music because he likes it, and a white or latino guy reporting on rap music, while pretending like he's the first to do it, and not really even liking the black folks who made it or paying attention to the other, less fun parts to their culture....I mean look at the people he interviews, if he was a culture vulture he would try to save face by not bringing people on who are going call him out for doing so. I'm a firm believer that sharing cultures and ideals help us progress as humans. *but stealing culture will only divide us.* I had to say that because if everyone over uses these terms they'll end up loosing their meaning. also culture doesn't always = race. hey this is just my opinion and if you don't agree, try to tell me why in a way that's not going to make me ignore this whole comment thread since I posted my thoughts in a chill way. -oh also im mixed and in low income housing, so no need to explain things to me like I'm some rich white kid from Vermont.

@psyckojoe7 жыл бұрын
Being open to new ideas is a good thing in general. It's like when people don't want to even hear other people's opinions. Locking yourself into your own box and not interacting with the outside world, you can make you spiral out of control because you only get your own opinions reinforced and turn you into an extremist. It doesn't matter much when it comes to music, because people would barely fight over songs, but it's generally a good idea to at least listen to new shit, even if you disagree with all of it. Nothing wrong with only liking old shit, but at least try to hear some current shit. I wouldn't want to miss out on the Kendricks and Mick Jenkins just because every new rapper with lil in their name is trash.

My definition of a hit is your definition of a miss because mindlessness is the mindset of the day and anything that emcompasses that is a "hit" with the masses. Furthermore, I'd rather be classic than be a hit, but that just me :)

If he don't like him then he just don't fucking like him. MOVE THE FUCK ON! Then the whole Drake, Biggie & Tupac discussion had me irritated with Vlad yet again. Not because he agrees with Lil Yachty, but because it felt like he wasn't trying to let Jamar get his point across. Shit is aggy yo.

Jamar is right, 90s was totally much more lyrical, even party songs were lyrical. There are also loads and loads of less successful great rappers in the 90s who didn't blew up due to label politics, bad marketing etc.
@doctorzaius40847 жыл бұрын
I actually kinda like Lil Yachty's music, but that part where vlad says "Drake has more hit records [than Tupac or Biggie]" - I felt that sigh from Jamar so thoroughly.

So Lil Yachty says Drake is better than Biggie or Pac, but he knows nothing about their music history or hip-hop period? That does not make any sense.......0_o
@sharkyh73277 жыл бұрын
gallyun1 Exactly it's like in late 90's if people sid bone thugs n harmony were better than public enemy or Nas is better than Ice cube but didn't listen to Public E or ice cube, I'm sure the dude didn't even listen to biggie or pac, I'm 20 and for me I'm not biased and biggie and pac are much better than drake, I'm not an 'old head' which mumblers keep saying to sway the truth so in my opinion it's bullshit

Back at biggie and Tupac time, rap and hip hop wasn't mainstream. Rap, hip hop is so excepted today, so comparing drake to biggie and Tupac based on "hit records" is not fair.. do you think the artist of today will still be selling albums after their dead? Or silent for even a year? Hell no..
