As an avid mountain biker and Road Glide Special owner, I know that aside from losing excess body weight, rotational weight loss (wheels/tires) is we're to "put your money". Nice vid!

I had a Deltran Lithium battery and I was in disbelief on how light it was. 4lbs vs 23lbs. It doesn’t seem like it would make a difference, but it was most noticeable when lifting off the side stand. It made the bike feel not as top heavy.
@John-td5lu

I absolutely believe you. I ride a 2010 xl1200c. Not a heavy bike, but they are definitely not light. They are top heavy. My next move is to do the exact same that you did. I don’t think that people really understand how huge just a battery swap can really be.

One way to reduce weight is to go on a diet.....a reduction in the unsprung weight (wheels) means a reduction in rotational inertia...(this DECREASES the amount of energy that goes into accelerating the bike, it also REDUCES the amount of energy required to brake the bike: ie. it will now stop faster), it also means that the bike will be more flickable going into turns...it also means that the bike's suspension will be far more responsible to bumps and dips in the road...meaning the bike will stay on the road better and grip it better.
@mrh3085
@mrh3085 2 жыл бұрын
This is because the reduction in Inertia greatly diminishes the gyroscopic effect when turning.

Your right about the weight but these bikes are so heavy to begin with, Imagine a Streetglide with a stiff and rigid cro moly frame fight from the factory. Ive got my Streetglide just under 800lbs by upgrading shocks and exhaust but imagine the bike was lighter from the jump though. I like the bagger because its fun to ride and a hobby to make it better, full on sport bikes you get speeding tickets so its not worth it. Id like to see the baggers lighter with performance in mind. would be better gas millage too which keeps geting worse on these heavy ass things

I used to be all about those carbon fiber wheels. I have now removed my set and would be willing to sell them. Last summer a small rock bounced off the highway and hit the front wheel and the wheel exploded at 75mph while we was passing through Ohio. He spent 5 weeks in ICU in a hospital a long way from home. I loved the wheels until then. Other than on a clean drag strip you would have to insane to even consider running carbon fiber rims on the public streets. This video inspired our carbon fiber wheel adventure. For the investment you can accomplish the same hp spending your money on your engine. Please don’t use carbon fiber wheels on the highway. It’s not worth your life. 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

The dyno sheet in the video seemed to show that they did increase horsepower by reducing the overall weight.
@NoName-vz1ob
@NoName-vz1ob 5 жыл бұрын
@@hk-47meatnbag92 it is true that weight reduction does not produce more horsepower at the output shaft of the engine. However the total horsepower produced at the output shaft is considerably higher than the horsepower at the rear wheel. This is due to parasitic drag. From the output to the transmission (primary drive) then from the transmission to the wheel (secondary drive) it takes energy from the total output to push the vehicle forward. Reducing the unsprung weight reduces that drag thereby increasing the amount of the Initial output that reaches the wheel.

Pretty fuckin stupid for a street ridden bike. Get some magnesium or forged aluminum wheels instead. A little less expensive but a helluva lot better for the street. As well as still being lighter than stock.

So you really only pulled 29.5#s. Sure there's a performance benefit that's in excess of that for the rotational mass but its not going to make it any lighter to pick up(particularly that low) or tow. Lot of cheddar to loose 12#s in them wheels. Most HD riders could take a 💩 that heavy and loose the weight from higher up. I was hoping for some real practical savings when I saw this video in my search results not some expensive AF wheels and a everyone knows lithium battery swap. Waste of time.

That’s wrong! Reduction of weight does not mean more power. It means the bike doesn’t have to work as hard.

Which equals less power loss and more power to the ground. So it is more power at the tire.

Come on what a bunch of bullshit. Only way to make anything 84 lbs lighter is to remove 84lbs. In 30 years of hearing Harley "Dealerships" mechanics ..bullshit. This is definitely the best. Been riding these things for decades there heavy. Uno why because they are built to be heavy

It’s an exaggeration based on how heavy those bikes are even with carbon wheels. Purely a joke dude

gonzotopia1 ...As far as power to weight ratio goes, losing 100 lbs. is equal to gaining 10 HP. That's no joke.

Harley weight a shit load..how do you just cut that much weight off your rims and your bikes ok?

The unsprung weight is a multiplier. The lightweight wheels exponentially improve response and handling.
