What is Katie’s new intermittent fasting regiment now that she is postpartum?
Is Katie able to keep up with her milk supply and workouts?
What is her energy level like with her current fasting schedule?
These are questions that I have been getting quite frequently. Today I will be answering them to satisfy your curiosity, as well as a few others… :)
I feel like this is a little taboo, because whenever you’re talking about restricting anything in pregnancy or postpartum, you can’t recommend that. This is one of the podcasts that we will say, “we can’t recommend it, but…this is what we do anyway.” A lot of evidence that I will be presenting is going to be anecdotal. I’m just going to show you what my experience has been. I feel like it was very helpful for me when I was searching KZfaq trying to find podcasts to learn “how can I lose weight postpartum and still keep my milk supply strong?” that I was basically just listening to other women’s stories. I didn’t want a doctor telling me what I could and couldn’t do. I wanted to hear from different women what has worked for them. While this is anecdotal, it is what I have copied from a lot of other women online who also cannot recommend what they are doing, but have had the same results.
Something else I want to say upfront is that when it comes to weight loss or “getting your body back” or whatever postpartum, my motive behind this is to make having children sustainable. I love our children and love raising them. Pregnancy is hard on your body though. I want to do whatever I can to stay healthy and in shape for if God allows us to have more children down the road.
This episode isn’t just about weight loss. It is also about energy and hormone management. All of those things are affected by our overall health. This is why it was important for me to do an episode on this.

My experience as a mom of five who has also always lost the baby weight very quickly: I too have a husband who highly values discipline-especially with diet-and who used to praise me highly for doing things like fasting, keto, and bouncing back after birth. I see a lot of myself in Katie and a lot of my husband in hers (in regard to their relationship on screen). The way that he praises her for her discipline and "aesthetics" is identical to the way that my husband praised me...until he watched our babies lose weight or become extremely "colicky" every single time I've been in the process of the weight loss. I've dealt with both "colicky" behavior and weight loss in our babies every time I've either intermittent fasted or done a low carb/keto diet while breastfeeding. Intermittent fasting made them lose weight, and keto made them extremely colicky and unable to sleep soundly at all. I've only continued to try these things (and defend them to friends and family) because I have a very similar (clearly perfectionist and praise driven) personality to Katie's on screen. I take everything that she says with a grain of salt because I know how highly motivating praise is-not only from the husband, but from friends, peers, family, etc. I used to vouch for keto and intermittent fasting on social media, even while I dealt with negative side effects in myself and my babies because the praise was that motivating. I'm currently 5 weeks postpartum after my fifth baby, and I spent weeks 2.5-4 on keto, and then quickly watched my baby become colicky, just like I'd experienced with my others when I'd gone keto. I have decided that I just have to eat a balanced diet and eat when I'm hungry-but eat within reason and stick to healthy foods. My husband cares more about our babies' health than my aethetics, and he still calls me perfect with the thirty extra pounds that I want gone. I just have to remind myself that I will be able to lose it over time and that it's not a race.

Katie often emphasizes that her mother never stressed weight or scales, but when she had her sister on, much of the focus was on weight. Now here again, weight is the topic. I don't believe women should be fasting while pregnant or nursing. I always noticed a significant difference in my milk production when I ate a complete and healthy meal compared to skipping a meal or snacking. I believe if you eat well and breastfeed, you will lose weight gradually. A friend of mine would lose her baby weight in about 4 months. I took about 8 months. What's the rush? I felt so bad leaving hospital looking 5 months pregnant when other women leave in their prepregnancy jeans. I didn't even have to contend with instagram. I don't understand the emphasis on weight or pressure to lose rapidly.

You have many women in your audience who have longstanding eating disorders. It is irresponsible to give them both motivation and justifications for restricting calories. Eating less to make room for water is not a thing. That we would be a technique an anorexic might use to feel full and not eat. Please rethink this approach and this message. No one needs to be pressured to be sexy and have an amazing body 8 weeks after they give birth. I'm super skeptical that you're eating 3000 calories. That's 1000 calorie meals. I hear you avoiding eating thru distraction of homeschool, thru guzzling water, and thru avoiding carbs. You're even not eating when you are legitimately hungry. I'm sure your approach works, but is being ripped 8 weeks post partum an admirable goal? Eat well, be active, and the weight will come off as long as you are not eating crazy high fat, carbs, junk food etc and sitting on the couch.

Fantastic episode! Unfortunately, based on the comments, i think a lot of people didn't really listen. All the negative issues they had with it were addressed with grace in the video. The care of nourishing baby as a priority was there, the awareness of knowing your body's needs was there, and energy and benefits proving your body was thriving with your fasting was there. That is a fantastic relationship with God, self, others, and food. Great testimony and example. Thank you for sharing. I am 17 weeks pregnant with #7 and loved fasting before pregnancy. I stopped as i knew my body needed to during the morning sickness and early pregnancy. I am seeing longer windows happen on accident now and am going to be using my body's signs to introduce fasting again. I am excited to give my body the best care i can and give glory to God through caring for it well. ❤ thanks again, Katie!

I humbly disagree with a few things you said this is coming from someone is very fit and have maintained a healthy weight in her pregnancy and lost all the weight postpartum. Women absolutely need to eat within an hour of waking to help their hormones be balanced. Your body will definitely go into a fight or fight- cortisol will raise . I do agree that you need to stop eating early. Have an early dinner at 5:00 pm and then stop eating. Also drink a ton of coconut water to help with breast milk supply. Make sure you’re getting in minerals- add minerals to your water. Coconut water has a ton of minerals it. I’d also add it’s not so much eating- but what you eat. Eat protein.. and lots of it. Skip the salads, skip the refined carbs and eat a whole steak. Just a steak. Eat eggs with sauerkraut for breakfast. Just eat high protein and the fat will drop off. However, women are all different.. I dropped weight fast- was a size 4. But didn’t dropped down to size 2 till my baby was 18 months old and it was about 7 pounds my body was holding on to and didn’t let go of until my 1 year old only nursed once per day. I do agree you don’t need to snack. So much! Also, women need to remember that if you’re in a joyful relaxed state you’ll create milk.

Commented before i finished watching the video- i agree with almost everything you said- but the waiting to eat first thing in the morning. Eat within an hour of waking. Also, if women have irritability it’s probably bc you’re not eating enough protein. Also, listen to your body. Eat when you’re hungry and don’t wait to eat.

This is definitely not advice I would take. Drinking a gallon of water a day will deplete your body of electrolytes, which are already depleted postpartum, and it is definitely not the best beverage choice for nursing mothers. Not to mention all the urinating you will be doing when you should be resting. Taking a heavy load of supplements/vitamins wouldn't be necessary if you ate and drank well. The "our food supply is depleted of nutrients" thing is just an cop out. Breastfeeding mothers should also be drinking nourishing tea, whole milk, bone broth, coconut water, etc. to thirst. Not just downing a bunch of fluid so that you don't eat. There is so much nutrition in those drinks alone. In the early stages, babies nurse all night and day. They say a baby doesn't need milk at night past 6 months, but some babies do, especially if they haven't started solids. So nursing at night can continue for months! This makes mother depleted and yes, hungry. I have an 8 day old, my 6th baby and he nurses every hour at times, even every half hour. There's no way I'm going to fast for some set amount of hours under those circumstances. The priority is making QUALITY milk, not losing weight. I wouldn't take advice from someone who's milk supply only lasts a few months...between her sleep training and the dieting, it's no wonder! Eat up (healthfully) Mommas and keep your babies near as long as you can.

I sleep trained 5 babies, but really, when you start from birth, you're not really training as in crying it out. They just get on a schedule naturally, eat only when hungry, and get into a groove of solid sleep by setting their body clocks. That aside (and not looking to start a debate!), I agree completely with your nutrition perspective. My milk supply would be great in spite of night weaning until solid food was introduced. If I delayed that and made sure to nurse *before* table food, I was able to nurse 2 years. You mentioned quality of milk. I do wonder if chugging water makes a low protein, nonfat milk of sorts, or is it like pregnancy where everything goes to the baby and the mom gets depleted?
@Sarah-psalm127
@Sarah-psalm127 5 ай бұрын
@@RCGWhobabies as newborns should be encouraged to nurse as often as possible to get in your milk supply. " only nursing when hungry" would be a detriment to both mom and baby. And many people do have their babies cry it out. Even that young. It's heart wrenching. I'm glad you do not.
@RCGWho
@RCGWho 5 ай бұрын
@Sarah-psalm127 Truth be told, I didn't have a lot of support on my first baby, so at first I was being hyper vigilant about aiming for a 3 hour schedule. I now get that newborns (my 5 anyway) will naturally eat closer to 2 to 2 1/2 hours apart. 3 hours apart happens almost without imposing it at all after your milk supply is established AND the baby is in a good eat/play/sleep rhythm. I suppose if a Mom isn't self-aware that they are being too uptight, what I call "rulesy", and pivot you will end up doing crying it out very prematurely. My son was crying hard and then eating ravenously and then projectile vomiting. I observed this and went back to the basic eat/play/sleep principle which means once they wake, it's time to eat! They are hungry and holding them off makes no sense. Anyway, having these conversations is important so that if a new Mom reads it and is sleep deprived and being inflexible in her use of a schedule, but can't see that, it may help her to make the adjustment. (That may be a really bad sentence, but I'm not a writer and can't fix it. Lol)

You know what I can’t help but continually notice throughout your episodes? It’s a theme of self care. You both seem to really invest in your own individual personal growth, whether it be in your relationship with God, your investment in your children, or your fitness journey. You always seem to have a personal goal or standard that sometimes the other person isn’t even aware of. Lol Katie, as a fellow mom and woman of God, I would love for you expand on the importance of prioritizing your life and interests along side being a mother and wife. You are always humble and never come across as boasting or self centred. It’s just so inspiring. I’m curious where that come from for you and how you keep yourself accountable and motivated. If you’ve touched on these things in a podcast or episodes I’ve missed, I’d love the direction to it. Thanks guys for all of your dedication!

Mamas, you just grew a human. There is zero rush to get back to pre-pregnancy weight! It took 9 months to grow that child. Give yourself AT LEAST 9 months to get back (if not more). And don’t feel bad if you’re one of the many women who hold onto a few pounds until their child is fully weaned. It’s pretty common and it’s okay! You’re still beautiful! Embrace your postpartum body and thank it and God for all it has done. Focus on nourishing your baby and your body, not losing weight. Bond with your baby instead of obsessing over losing the weight quickly.

I think we all need to just admit that in America, alot of the extra calories we get while pregnant and nursing are from eating "fluff" and "junk", not from consuming additional nutrient-dense veggies and fruits and protein. We use pregnancy as an excuse to be indulgent and gluttonous. And it hurts our health. I had anxiety with my 3rd pregnancy because I often couldn't eat until mid afternoon due to morning sickness. I asked My doctor and he wasn't worried at all. My doctor in Japan says it doesn't matter when you eat in a day, only what you eat in a day. We have the lowest rate of infant and maternal mortality in the Western world, and women lose the baby weight by their 6 week check-up. The USA has one of the highest rates of infant and maternal mortality in the Western world by comparison. Leave Katie alone. The time of day doesn't matter when you eat. I also have a degree in the health sciences including biochemistry. Your body goes into gluconeogenesis during pregnancy beginning in the 2nd trimester to protect the infant by ensuring you have a high and steady amount of glucose and nutrients to the growing fetus. Katie's never advocated cutting calories and obviously knows how to eat well and take care of her body. I wonder how many negative comments on here are being left by people using "health" as an excuse, but are driven by jealousy. Also, please fix your definitions people. This is NOT fasting (eliminating food). It's just changing the time of day WHEN you eat. BIG difference!!!

A 14 hour “fast” had me dropping weight too fast. I’d say start slow with a 12/12. Depends on your exercise routine too mine is maybe more than some do because that’s how I’ve always been. But alsoooo there’s evidence to support an evening break vs. waiting later in the day to eat. I.e. eat breakfast at 8-9am but don’t eat past 6-7pm - benefits your circadian rhythm too.

Love this! There's truly not much anecdotal info out there about IF during pregnancy and postpartum. I have fasted very similarly to Katie in my first two postpartum seasons and successfully lost my baby weight both times while breastfeeding. It really works for me! Now im currently 5 weeks PP with my third and am once again fasting ~16 hrs. My midwife was ok with me fasting during pregnancy but I haven't been able to past the first few weeks of pregnancy. I get lightheaded and that's my signal to lengthen my eating window. So just be in tune with your body. Fasting postpartum has been easy for me once I get past the first week or so of my body adjusting to an 8 hr window. And for me its much simpler than counting calories. Hopefully my story can be helpful for others too and I wish this video was out there when I was first researching it. 😊

I affirm what Katie is saying. Mom of 5 here that i also breastfed each of successfully until age 2 and I intuitively followed the same method and it works. Also, I'd say coming from a European family, there is no snacking between meals in Europe, and the kitchen closes after dinner. Avoid caffeine, it makes you hungry and it steals your energy from the next day. Also, to keep milk, just keep up with electrolytes (salt your food) and fluids and you'll be fine. And I've asked my doctor about this. She didnt care. She said if and when you eat meals doesnt matter as much as what you eat. As long as youre getting your nutrients and calories within 24 hours, youll be fine. And your milk supply and baby's weight is the BEST signal to you that youre doing things right or not.

I'll also add, I've had 3 babies in Japan which has the lowest infant and maternal mortality rate in the world. The doctors restrict mothers to a 10 kg weight gain during pregnancy, discourage eating carbs, encourage lots of fish and veggies. Babies here are born smaller, but it's rare for mothers to use any form of pain control, C-section rate is unbelievably low. Postpartum care in the hospital is one unbelievably spoiled week of rest and amazing care. The food is out of this world. My babies were all about 7lb on the dot, but very chunky in no time. And also, it's NORMAL in Japan to be at your pre-baby weight after 6 weeks postpartum. So they're doing something right over here.

Thank you for sharing scale numbers!! Good for you!! I weighed about 125 lbs when I was in my early 20s, then went through a couple phases of life and ended up weighing close to 150. Lost 10-15 lbs, developed celiac disease and went back down to 127 (I’ve figured out that is my golden weight) and in healing from malnourishment and learning about nutrition I’ve been trying to set habits that can sustain the rest of my life through every phase. I’d love to feel great and end up back at this weight with little effort after having children. :) And to all the negative comments, I’m surprised at how harsh people are to someone (Katie) who appears so healthy! There are so many moms out there who do not care at all about taking care of themselves or supporting the healthiest baby possible - even if I have a different body (IF isn’t recommended for certain stages of healing from an autoimmune disease, for example) I’m not going to say Katie is wrong for doing something that is working for her!

Katie, I think the fact that you are being so intentional about your health and weight is so wonderful! I think it’s amazing and you will be so inspiring and encouraging to so many women who Doubt that you CAN have a healthy pregnancy and postpartum and also bless your husband and family in that way! Way to go! I am concerned with the “science” you are getting from google behind weight loss, carbs, fats, “fat burning mode”, insulin spikes, calories etc. and how those mechanisms are working together. I’d just encourage you to dig a little deeper in those areas, read some well conducted studies, and come at it open minded. Nutrition and weight loss aren’t as unique and mysterious as you make it out to be.

She has shared a couple of books that has helped her gain that information. One being fast like a girl and it has amazing info and research on fasting and how good it is for the body.

@@ackreft unfortunately, just because we read it in a book, doesn’t make it scientifically true, which I know we all realize. There are other books about women and diet and hormones that speak completely counter to that one, that we could reference. Which one is correct? I’m sure it resonated with her and her experience and it was helpful to her, and I don’t fault her for that at all. She’s trying to figure all of this out, which I greatly applaud her for. It’s wonderful and godly! Unfortunately, the information she mentioned about the topics I noted above are just wrong, which is why I tried to just encourage her to look into it more and didn’t bash her. We all start somewhere with our research and We can all stand to take a second look at things, especially when we have the large platform that she does.

Dr Mindy specifically told me in a comment that breastfeeding women should not go past 15 hours for the fasting window because toxins go into the baby from the breastmilk. I don't see any results unless I have a fasting window of about 18 to 20 hours, so I have had a hard time fasting while nursing.

Losing weight while breastfeeding is hard because your body naturally holds onto weight more at that time. I found fasting while bf I can lose weight, but its a slow process.

I also saw an interview with Dr Mindy and the question of fasting and breastfeeding came up in that interview as well. She did say 15 hours because of the toxins that could affect the milk. I think it's about wise choices and doing the best you can.

@abigailwilkerson5284 I like to shed the weight that is obviously very extra. Being hypothyroid, I gained a lot more weight than I should have, and now that it's corrected (through changing what I eat) and my baby is over a year - I am so ready to fast and get these last 30 to 40 pounds off.

I think that in the 1950s a lot of the housework required a lot more physical effort. Such as laundry. My grandmothers did it all by hand and had to hang dry their clothes. That could also be a reason people stayed more fit.

While I do agree that there is great information in this podcast, I think some of that can be a little harmful. While I definitely don’t air on the side of hypersensitivity, the comment about the 1950s, and everybody’s waist being small, was just a little tone deaf. Not only is that not true, but like you said there are so many differentiators, such as food quality. Overall, huge fan of the podcast. I think spiritually, I learned a lot and gain a lot from this show. Just providing some honesty about things that may be harmful to some of your viewers who, aren’t doing the research themselves, and are taking your word at face value.

Thank you so much, Katie, for sharing so many helpful tips! I always snack before bedtime though I know I shouldn’t! I know the answer is to turn to the Lord in my tiredness and fatigue from the day (have 5 kids under 12) instead of turning to KZfaq (ironically 😂) and snacking on junk. Part of my reluctance to get pregnant again (which we are open to) is my 30 extra pounds, so it was so inspiring to hear your workout consistency gave you a ripped back during your pregnancy! Have you shared any of your pregnancy workout tips yet? If not, would love a discussion about that! Half a year ago I was still doing weight training (like deadlifts, back squats, presses, etc.) but I fell off the wagon and have not gotten back on. 😣 Thank you!! ❤ P.S. I love your mom’s advice to eat moderately and workout consistently and don’t check your weight is wonderful! I need to make the scale less available (we need to weigh the kids sometimes for martial arts weighing in so can’t throw it out 🤣)

Feeling your best only helps you take care of those in your family that much better! Taking care of yourself vigorously while pregnant just means that you don't have to establish or reestablish a vigorous routine postpartum. I would much rather go into postpartum feeling strong like this! Go Katie. This was inspiring.

I’m intermittent fasting while pregnant with #2. I gained 60lbs my first pregnancy (long story). I’ve lost massive amounts of weight when not pregnant doing one meal a day. I was on track to gain the same amount or more this pregnancy. That kind of quick weight gain increases risk for all kinds of complications from gestational diabetes to pre-eclampsia, to blood clots and more. This is the only method I have ever been able to maintain or lose weight with. I don’t care how controversial it is. I’m doing what’s healthiest for me.

Be careful about definitions. Katie is not advocating cutting calories within a 24 hour period. She's also not advocating "fasting", just changing the time of day when she eats. It can be detrimental to cut calories during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Focus on nutrient density and avoid empty calories.

Thank you for being brave enough to share this countercultural information. I am 48 and have been incredibly frustrated trying to lose weight because I eat 90% healthy, work out, etc. BUT I have been having sugar in my hot tea from the time I wake up until right before bed. I was starting to suspect this, but it was probably only 100 calories a day and was “in my macros “ for carbs. But God brought the sugar to mind when I was praying for wisdom & just so frustrated! What you said about insulin made the lightbulb go on! My insulin was spiked ALL day and into the night, every day. I have listened to the Glucose Goddess method & am applying what you say here along with her hacks. So easy & doable!! Yes, I was a little hungry but I knew food was coming! I have thoroughly enjoyed myy meals & felt satiated all day. In the last week I’ve lost 2.5 pounds & can see the difference in my stomach- where I hold onto weight. This is sustainable!!!! I am still reading more, but this is exactly what I needed. I was diagnosed with PCOS years ago and I guess we get more insulin resistant as we age, so I think this is exactly what my body needs. Thank you!!! Also, I was going to allow a dessert after a meal like Glucose Goddess suggests, but I honestly haven’t really wanted one, even fruit. Like I haven’t had this craving for it! Amazing!!! I feel much better emotion-wise all day long & not like I’m looking for my next “hit” whether of sugar, social media, etc. Just more steady. Praise the Lord!!

I’m 18 weeks and I’m intermittent fasting. I gained way too much weight in my last pregnancy. It was very unhealthy. I ate one meal a day postpartum to lose the baby weight plus some. This time, I couldn’t fast in the first trimester due to nausea on an empty stomach and have already gained my “allowed pregnancy weight” as a result. I’m now back to one meal and it’s allowing me to maintain my weight. I feel terrible eating throughout the day. Everyone acts like it’s always unhealthy to fast in pregnancy, but for the right person in the right situation, I think intermittent fasting during pregnancy can be healthy and keep down the risk of complications so long as we take our prenatal vitamins.

We’ll see if IF while breastfeeding helps to burn the 50 pounds of baby weight I hung onto through 2 pregnancies! 😅

My first pregnancy, I was back in pre-pregnancy clothes in 2 weeks. No extra trying, it just happened. I had only gained 29 pounds and most of it was shed at the hospital. For my second pregnancy, it took 6 months. I worked out and did not eat after 6 pm, but I ate all I wanted during the day. I had gained closer to 35 pounds but it was different for me because it was my second. Pregnant now with #3!! Everyone is different, every pregnancy is different. Sharing our story isn't toxic, and nobody should be ashamed for losing weight easily or hard. We are all trying our best. We have different metabolisms and relationships with food. And there is nothing wrong with being fit and thin right after pregnancy, it is healthy! There is nothing wrong with taking a year to get back to what you want, life happens. Be your best self. Also, there is no better motivation than trying to look good for your husband. It is so fulfilling, when he doesn't care what you look like, but you still got it going on. My husband works out hard and he says it's for me. When I work out, I do it with him in mind as much as myself, he is worth it! My love, my soulmate! ❤️

Most of the existing research on fasting/ intermittent fasting utilizes data from male participants. More recent research addressing women specifically finds that females are more likely to have high cortisol levels and are more susceptible to the damaging effects of cortisol due to our respectively lower testosterone levels compared to males. In the vast majority of cases, females should eat within 30 minutes of waking up to avoid cortisol spikes and reduce overall cortisol levels. Females can still reap the benefits of fasting by eating just 2 or maybe 3 large meals per day rather than snacking continuously so that the digestive system still has time to rest and blood glucose can regulate; however, waiting to eat upon waking does more long term damage than good. Also, the digestive system does not turn off when we go to sleep. Sleep quality is improved when we don't eat right before bed because the body doesn't have work as hard to digest if that process has already begun, but the process does continue even when we are asleep, just like the process of breathing.

I listen to this entire episode and found it sadly to be very unhealthy. So many little comments show an unhealthy mindset. I have to say I used to have a mindset like Katie. I know where she's coming from, but God stripped me of that. It was when we lost our fourth daughter tragically and suddenly when she was 3 months old. I grieved that I spent her precious 3 months on earth with my thoughts occupied with my losing weight. It was the beginning of God stripping me of that kind of unhealthy thinking. Although I would not have outrightly admitted it, I used to think that we needed to be beautiful and fit to be attractive and loved by our spouse. Now I see how utterly wrong and toxic anything close to resembling that thinking is. It shuts us off from loving people as a whole beautiful soul. After the birth of our 7th child, my husband took the batteries out of the scale, and told me that he loved me just the way I was and he thought I was more beautiful than ever. And that my body was beautifully functioning. He didn't want me thinking any other thoughts than that about myself. I cannot tell you how freeing it has been to not know my weight in this postpartum season. I honestly feel more beautiful than ever not knowing it. And I have not lost the baby weight as shown by my clothes and my baby is over six months old. When you think about it for thousands and thousands of years women did not know their weight. No one was consumed with losing weight or having a bikini body for their husband. This is all a very new, and I'll say it again *toxic* phenomenon. Katie's feeling really good because she's running off of adrenaline. And that might work for several years, depending on the person, but it's not sustainable life long. As someone who has done something similar before and had an adrenal crash, it is the last thing I would encourage women, especially child bearing women to do. A lot of Katie's comments have me concerned about an eating disorder. Something is not right with her at a deep emotional level and I say that from a place of love and concern for her. This is not a healthy mindset to look up to for her followers or her daughters. And I share this as someone who at one time sadly would have been strongly influenced by her message in this video. Ladies, if you are looking for health wisdom and full body embodiment, I would encourage you to listen to The Freely Rooted podcast and also check out Kori Melody on Instagram. Also, Ray Peat and Morley Robbins and Weston A Price. I've learned so much from Kori! And I transitioned my body from running on adrenaline to feeling so much more embodied, present and peaceful as a mom. And I'm also so content with my body. I notice so many things that I love about my body besides focusing on being thin and seeing that as the thing of beauty. Our message to moms should not be you can have kids and still have your teenage figure. There is a certain beautiful freedom in letting go of that and allowing your body to be loved thoroughly and worn out on behalf of other little people. Your children are not going to look back and remember when mom was a little chubby, but they will look back and remember how mom listened to them and connected with them and made them feel secure. Our weight is not eternal, it's not something anyone's going to talk about in heaven, but our children are very eternal. I have learned to embrace the stages of pregnancy and postpartum and love my body through them instead of wanting to race back to what my body was before it had kids or got pregnant. It is embracing my role as a mother and letting go of the maiden. It is so much more peaceful. I feel so much more contentment and rest in my soul. We have our whole lives to get back into shape. It's not a race and no one is going to remember when you die that wow, she weighed such and such. They were going to remember how you made them feel.

8 weeks post partum here and back to my pre pregnancy weight. I haven’t restricted my food intake/timing in any way though. With my first it took me about 4 months to get to this point and I attribute the difference to having gained a bit less weight and having been more active during this last pregnancy. In post partum I’ve been eating liberally, including a decent amount of ice cream n cereal which yeah it’s probably not very healthy. I’ve been careful with exercise to protect PF and have recently resumed very light workouts. Milk supply has been through the rough as in my first postpartum and baby is very chubby. Still have to recover plenty of muscle mass but that will come with time. I would be concerned about going over 12h without eating but that’s my personal opinion. The point is my weight still came off despite me eating whatever I want and whenever I want. What happens during pregnancy is the main factor imo

You need to heal your uterus before working out. You will feel like you're going crazy but you just have wait in order not to reopen that wound where the placenta detached. There are gentle "exercises" that you can do that are a lot like lifting your arms and legs (I use the bounce back fast workouts - they have one called gentle first moves) that set you up to be ready for more. If you notice an increase in bleeding STOP. Even if it's the next day and even if all you did was walk around the neighborhood. at 7 weeks pp I lifted my toddler onto a changing table and started bleeding again- sometimes it just takes longer to heal (this is not typical I just share it to illustrate the point). I had a friend who had such a stressful and physically demanding pp that she ended up bleeding for six months 🤯 two weeks in bed is a good rule of thumb if you can do it and then light activity until you're fully healed❤

My husband constantly tells me I’m the sexiest thing he’s ever seen whether I’m 9 months pregnant or two days postpartum or lost all the weight with defined muscles again. People, find yourself a spouse that supports and encourages you to be your best healthy self but also doesn’t tell you (and all of KZfaq) they find you more attractive in one season of life over another.

This comment!!! It’s this mindset exactly that’s made me struggle with so much insecurity… yet my husband genuinely thinks I look fantastic postpartum, too 😅 I am all for being fit and healthy, but yeah the mindset of only being sexy for your spouse as a certain size is objectifying and disturbing. It’s a recurring them in their content.

I understand some husbands may prefer their wife in a more curvy body, but I also think it's good for a husband to be honest with his wife and not just say things to make her feel good. My husband is honest with me and because we are so close(we are one, after all!) I know at what stage stage he prefers my body. He makes me feel supported and loved at all stages of motherhood and I wouldn't have it any other way! 💕 Not all marriages are the same, what is healthy for one marriage will be completely different for another. IMHO

If you listen carefully, he actually says he likes Katie's aesthetics all the time, but I also don't think there's anything wrong with telling his wife she looks hot, especially after all the effort she's making. He was just trying to validate her, something I think he does all the time regardless of what she looks like. I did not hear him say he found her more attractive now than before. He was simply saying he also admires and enjoys the results of her efforts. His remark does not cancel out his love and admiration for her at other times of her life.

@meganekstedt2518 It's not about whether the husband prefers his wife to have a hard body or not. It's giving things time and grace to happen. A hard body shouldn't be anyone's ultimate goal in life, but even in its proper perspective, it's not first priority during pregnancy and immediately after. This is not about taste and preferences, it's about ordered priorities.

@gettingseriousgettingolder3011 I'm concerned because all the adulation and affirmation can feed an eating disorder.I'm a child of the 80s when anorexia and bulimia started being openly named and talked about. The highest level of ED was among firstborn daughters who had high levels of perfectionism and achievement. Today we have SM driving us to comparison and envy. Many times we look at people who have amazing bodies on instagram and say we are inspired bt the person (to diet, hit the gym etc). Im seeing here what a powerful influence Katie has on young, impressionable moms.

Speaking as a mother of 13 blessings, I would recommend substituting some warm broth, kefir, kombucha , and the like for some of the water.

Loved this episode and will definitely be reading the books you recommended! I am amazed that you are 20 pounds lighter than I am and you are 3 months PP and here I am 20 pounds heavier than you and 17 months PP 😂😂 I think I need to start the IF and be a little more intentional with it. There goes my coffee creamer in the morning! I always gained Wright while BF because I was always starving!! Literally starving!! I wonder if maybe I would have just drunken more water I would have satisfied that hunger I thought I hadZ

Taking a nutrition dense supplement also helps with the “starving” feeling. A lot of cravings are signs that your body is deficient in nutrients

As for loosing fat, there are toxins released from the fat that get to the milk. I was advised to wait till the baby does not breastfeed on demand by doctors for this reason (for me it was till 2 years). Be gentle with your body, it is feeding your little one ❤

For me so far at 32 weeks, the key was never thinking “I’m eating for two”. I eat when I’m hungry and I prioritize protein too. I noticed when I ate too many carbs from the afternoon on, the nausea was WAY worse the next day. I know I am very lucky I haven’t gotten sick 🤧yet so far though.

AS a mother of 8, I have listened to dozens of your podcasts, and find your perspective as parents of a young family to be refreshing and encouraging. But I've got to say, this one just made me feel quite uncomfortable. I found the emphasis on weight loss vs. overall health and nutrition to be problematic, especially from a pregnancy and post-partum perspective. Dropping weight so quickly, while trying to nourish yourself and your new baby, let alone care for other young children, seems unrealistic at best and dangerous at worst. I just can't believe you're eating "north of 3,000 calories" in an 8 hour window. Fasting for 16 hour stretches, some days not eating until lunchtime, seems more than troublesome. Watching videos on KZfaq and googling various topics is *not* research, and it's concerning that you'd advise viewers, some of whom may struggle with physical and mental health issues surrounding food, based on such "research." I have no idea who encouraged you to address this topic, but it was a huge miss for me. Elijah, I hope you find your wife as beautiful at 9 months pregnant as you do the day you made this "aesthetic" comment. I couldn't help but cringe and perhaps you will, too, someday when you rewatch this one. I really enjoy your channel, but this episode was hugely problematic for me.

You make many valid points, but I do have to say that reputable information and research is available to everyone with access to the internet. Research by Harvard and top institutions like Mayo Clinic is readily available to all. So, until we know what Katie's sources are, we can't really determine if her research came from reputable sources or not.

That's fair. I agree that ther are reputable sources online. I think it was the "people I follow on KZfaq" that made me question that. I'd love to know Katie's sources, too. @@gettingseriousgettingolder3011

You voiced all of my concerns. There's also a pattern I've noticed among several influencers I follow. I was so impressed that 4 of them would get up about 5 am. But then I noted that they weren't getting up to seek God and read the Word, they were getting up to work out. I spent 5 years hitting the gym (not at 5 am!) But was not spending time with God and putting Him first. I've been super convicted about it.
