That "Don't tell me what I can't do" is so powerful and it comes out of nowhere. Another example of birlliant writing on Lost. Matthew did a fantastic job on this episode. Maybe even his best performance on the show.

"Don't tell me what I can't do!" I honest to god loved that part! I never realized how similar Jack and Locke was until Jack literally yelled that line. "Life and Death" always gets me. It's just so beautiful but so fuckin' sad...RIP Boone.

This has to be one of the most heartbreaking episodes for me. Boones pain, jacks struggle, Shannons loss. I loved Boone and I felt he could have given more to the show but I get why it happened. "I know you made a promise but I'm letting you off the hook. Let me go Jack." I cry, I cry then I cry some more

Every time I hear that song "Life and Death" I lose it. I'm happy that Nikki caught that theme with a life starting and a life ending, which fits the song title perfectly.

I think it was my first rewatch when I caught the callback (Jack puncturing Boone‘s chest) to the first few minutes of the pilot episode when Boone suggested to Jack using a pen in the same way on Rose to save her life :(

@@numbo655 yeah, like people in real life don't do that all the time Jack probably meant that Lock by omitting information ended up killing Boone which is true. So i think he is in the right conclusion and he didn't jump a single step

Ugh. The emotional trigger from that middle D in Giacchino’s score gets me each and every time. I named my dog Boone because this was a defining moment in LOST for me. I got him three weeks after the series finale in 2010 so I was still quite hung up on the show and I remember this was the first moment the show made me physically emotional. I love it.

I am so glad you both like Jack so much. When I watched the series a lot of people didn't like him. But, I think he is loyal, protective and committed, all admirable qualities.

In 2003, likely right before this season was filmed, Aaron Boone sent the Yankees to the World Series with a walk-off homerun in game 7 of the ALCS against the Red Sox. In 2004 the Red Sox won the World Series after coming back from being down 3 games against the Yankees in the ALCS, becoming the first team to accomplish this feat. To me this is hugely symbolic of Jack's journey, especially considering what the Red Sox mean to him, picking himself back up after a massive loss to win it all the next time. Aaron/Boone was a turning point for him, a loss he turned into a win.

God, the music still has such a visceral reaction for me. There were always such powerful scenes when it played. Boone’s death isn’t the saddest for me but it’s one of them.

I have always wanted to see someone make a sequel series to this show, but not tell anyone until a few seasons in. Like, imagine a show that takes place in the same universe as Lost, but it takes place somewhere in civilization and all we get throughout the first few seasons are very cryptic nods to elements from the greater Lost mythology, nothing confirmed. We follow a completely different set of characters who are trying to unravel their own set of mysteries and halfway through the series they learn that everything seems to be connected to this strange, mythical island that is referenced throughout ancient world history.

Ulterior motive discussing dimensions? This is a vital point of character hardening for Jack and Locke. Jack had a god complex but learned to let certain people go and not destroy himself over it. Locke is obsessed with falsely feeling special for the wrong cause he now completely has faith in everything on the island fully as you will see over the last episodes of season 1.

I hope they never reboot LOST either. There's no logical way they could bring back the same show when we literally learned everything about the island. Also I know I'm in the minority but I never forgave Locke for leading Boone to his death.

I think season one is the best. Then maybe 2/3 tied. and then 4 or 5, whichever one has the story where they get thrown into the Dharma Initiative. Those were pretty fun episodes like La’fleur. I remember watching that one for the first time and being like “what the heck, how is sawyer.... when did they.... how are they... time travel!?!?!?!?!”
