I just have to give a shout out to June Lockhart who day after tomorrow on June 25 will turn 99 years old! June hope your quality of life is healthy and good and if so, hang in there and set a record you rock. I remember you carried a picture of a rockstar with you everywhere you went, and it was David Bowie what a cool woman you were and are. Blessings and peace. P

An excellent 2nd episode! A good whole different soundtrack, from Herman Stein! A whole different sound from the first episode! An unusual cold open. It was almost 10-15 minutes before the opening theme! This sequence lasted a while before they finally escaped the “hot” comet! A mention that Alpha Control suspected sabotage. Surely they realized that Smith had disappeared! I won’t even go into Smith trying to contact Aeolus 14 Umbra! The plot is crazy here. If Smiths foreign ally was able to put that size of a ship out in space, they wouldn’t need Smith in the first place! Also with Will saying they should be be picking up a signal. From who? Since they were supposed to be the first out there?

Very unusual and inventive aliens in this episode. These aliens are weird enough to be believable as something truly alien. They avoid all the alien stereotypes of tv aliens--- no humans covered in make up, bumps or antennae on their heads or with gold or silver skin. Very refreshing.

Cut Dr Smith some slack-he was exposed to the Jupiter 2's magnetic drive field on full power without the protection of a freezing tube so his brain was frizzled( hence his scream ).
@mitchellmelkin4078
@mitchellmelkin4078 6 ай бұрын
@borusa32, Some folks who have sought to retcon the series' continuity have posited that exact exposure and his subsequent travels at relativistic speeds before crashing on Priplanus (for someone physically ill-suited to space travel), caused a condition not unlike sundowning in older adults, accounting for Smith's gradual slide into a type of dementia. As time went on, while his greed and illogical hope to return to Earth remained present, he became less focused on his companions' demise, as his behavior grew ever sillier, prone to being readily frightened, and subject to emotional outbursts. One finds such currents of thought about the character in quite a bit of online fan fiction. I'm somewhat partial to the idea.

A sector is a plane figure bounded by two radii and the included arc of a circle. Assuming the radii meet at the center of the galaxy (and making a generous allowance for the third dimension), any sector that includes our solar system would likely also include many other stars.

"You've ruined everything!" Will tells Smith, and it won't be the last time. The science in this show was often questionable, as we see early on when Don tells Judy that the "heat" from the comet could shrivel them in nothing flat. Comets are balls of ICE. Not surprising they remained lost in space.

8:53 True. But if the light was coming from a nearby source, it would be going out in all directions, and the other ship would already be visible. I suppose it could be a running light from the Jupiter 2, so they could see things in front of them and avoid hitting them, though sensors would be more effective for that, and it would be a big drain on power to have to throw that much light in front of the ship all the time.

One of my favorite episodes! Was shown early in S3, it really should have been the final episode, but back in those days, they never knew when the last episode would come! In fact, when they wrapped up season 3, they all thought they would be back for a season 4, THEN GOT THE NEWS THEY WERE CANCELLED!! It might have been for the best. The writers were burned out and couldn’t come up with good stories anymore. There was even talk about adding a TALKING LLAMA to the cast!! No thank you!!

@@Geezer-yf8hv, I've done a good bit of poking around, over many years, trying to find definitive primary source material, but I'm not sure there's any conclusive evidence for the exact reason for its cancellation. It's strange as one might suppose CBS corporate documentation wouldn't have been lost to time, given the decision was made in 1968, not at the dawn of the broadcast medium a decade and a half earlier.
