Same I used to listen to this with my gpa who was a Vietnam vet (101st 68-70) and he used to sing “that was my machine gunner ole Bobby lee” Private Lee was Kia in May 1969. In my grandfather’s words “ the last time I saw him he was covering the withdrawal of the wia and Kia. When we found him he was dead in his last known spot with only one clip left. Private lee should have one a Medal of Honor that day, hell they all should have” he wrote that in his journal that he kept throughout the war

My Grandma's husband is one of the last surviving WWII vets around, and whenever I hear that line in this song, "This one here's taken over seas in the middle of Hell in 1943" it always brings a tear to my eye because of how good we got it in the modern day and age and how many people either don't care or almost spit on that. That doesn't sit well with me.

djjazzyjeff123 My grandfather was in WWII and I heard all sorts of stories from my father who also was in the Army and I happened to be born 15 years before he retired. Getting all these stories and whatnot always made me super interested as to what happened back then cause my grandfather was a gunner in a B17 Bomber so he was hardly ever on the ground. All cause of grandpa, I’m beginning my schooling in military history, more specifically WWI and WWII. Going to base my life around that to make sure that they’re not forgotten. I hate how all of the hardships like that are being pushed aside today and can’t stand the thought of it suddenly disappearing as though it never even happened.

@@griffinwiegert527 its okay, it was awesome that they appreciated the song. Everyone has a different history and to some it may mean different things. Especially based on age, for older people and for the newer generation. For me, I hope we can get to a place like in WWII where we all came together as a nation and believed in freedom and would die for it to protect those we do not even know, no matter where we came from. We were all Americans.

This song is especially relevant in today's Instagram driven world (the song is from 2008). People are so worried about capturing photos of their experiences that they forget to just live in that moment. The old man in the song is explaining the parts of the story that the photo can't capture. A picture's worth a thousand words, but an experience is worth a thousand pictures, so don't forget to live in the moment!

This was my third video to watch that y’all reviewed. I have to say I really appreciate how objective y’all are and have always been the same. My mom and dad always taught me to hear, feel, and see what you have in front of you and let some time and interactions pass before you make a decision. Live, let live, be humble and kind.

Gentalman first off I love your openness and willingness to open your minds and listen to music of any genre with an open mind. This song is one of my favorites. It always reminds me of my grandfather and listening to stories he used to tell. Brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. I'm like you guys and listen to everything with an open mind. Keep doing what you do. Love the channel just subscribed. Looking forward to your reactions to more songs. The power of music is amazing.

I'm a long time Rock and Roller.....but have always respected and appreciated Country music. It's grounded in Realism. I had all my Rock and Metal CD's, but in between those I had the entire Garth Brooks collection. My friends gave me grief until I sat them down and introduced them, then it was inspiring. So keep doing what y'all do......love the "Free Thinking"......Love you guys and God Bless and please stay safe.

I love music and the lyrics and the message and I love how y’all break down hip-hop and rap. Then after 3 hours I find y’all do country (which I grew up on)?!?!? I seriously love you guys even more now, music is music and y’all explain it perfectly in this video. I’m glad y’all lead a channel that is diverse and true and open.
