LOTR bloopers: This made Viggo Mortensen SCARED of the Uruk-hai

In Fellowship of the Ring, Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn, found the portrayal of Uruk-hais so realistic that it unnerved him. Richard Taylor's impassioned speech to the stuntmen playing the Uruk-hais about merciless killing added to the intensity, making Mortensen and others hilariously uneasy during filming.

It's one of my favourite scenes in movie history, Boromir and Aragorn fighting with the Uruks here. The whole scene feels so real with the excellent acting skills and costumes, the uruk actors did a great job as well. Boromir protecting the hobbits till last breath. Aragorn deflecting the dagger. Lurtz being the absolute embodiment of rage. Uruk actors dont get enough credit for their acting part. And followed by an emotional scene with Boromir's death.

I think the real clincher was that most of the stuntmen playing orcs were native Maori tribesman who by the way are some of the most legendary stuntmen alive today. These guys are doing craziness most other actors won't do. If you want an idea of what I mean go watch the OLD Racka-Racka stuff. He's definitely the same type of guy. They really brought their notorious ferocity into the roles and it fits like a glove. Somewhere out there is footage of these guys in costume doing War Hakkas on set. It's bone-chilling stuff.

It must be so fun pretending to be a bloodthirsty Uruk in a riled up warband. Really just let your inner caveman out as you sprint full speed through a forest with your boys, on the hunt for some man-flesh. This trilogy has such amazing makeup and costumes, especially for Orcs and the like. I love all the closeup shots we see of them. Completely seamless, and still holds up as well today as when it first released. The actors also do a great job portraying them as these savage twisted creatures driven by sadism and bloodshed.

Just want to put it out there: Just about every orc in the Hobbit also had a real person behind them, often interacting with the other actors on the set, that’s just not the finished product we see in the movie. I dislike when people dismiss the orcs in the Hobbit as “just CGI” because it really discounts the hard work of both the CGI artists and the mocap actors who put in the work too.
@MioRaem

It doesn't really matter, because ultimately when people complain about so much in the Hobbit being CGI, what they really complain about is that it looks awful and hasn't aged half as well as LotR, and in half the time. The Hobbit films were a fiasco hounded by greedy studio intervention from WB, constant changes and ludicrous mandates including toxic deadlines. No wonder poor PJ hasn't done a narrative feature in 10 years. He was utterly burnt out.
