I definitely agree that LOTR uses cgi exactly right, but isnt this process more akin to cgi? Prosthetics would have been the definition of practical effects lol

I always miss a redemption scene for Denethor. Like they discover his palantir and understand that he was always under sauron influence. Whitout that contex its just and odd character, but he was in a magick war with Sauron itself. Heck Saruman gave up with the same tool and Denethor dont. Sure, he go crazy and emo about it but didnt gave up the city and you know Sauron was tryin too. That post death discovery would have deepened the character and redeemed it.

Here's the thing and I don't mean rl physics. Elves can be absurdly light as Legolas didn't even sink into the snow while everyone else was trudging through it. So He'd not weigh enough to slide down the stone steps like that as the shield would end up tumbling down the stairs rather than sliding. it would be more realistic if he floated down the stairs like a feather, or Princess Peach, given elves can control their density apparently in Tolkien's world.

The LOTR Trilogy isn't just great adaptations of fantasy but great Films in general. The Acting, Writing, Cinematography, Music, CGI, Costumes, Makeup, Special Effects, and even the Environmental Shots were amazing. The only thing I could compare it too is the Dune Films by Denis Villeneuve.

I’m always stunned by the $$$$ they waste by building sets, getting all the cast members together and support staff and running the cameras then not using it.

I know a lot of you are asking for Sir Ian M., but he's north of 80 now and I worry about that. Mr. Chris Lee is passed, Ian H. gone. Bernard H. gone. So I dunno how feasible that'll be. It was glaringly obvious that Chris Lee wasn't in the best of health in the Hobbit. I also worry about the stories being entitely fan fiction. If it does get released; I'll wait for the reviews by priper LoTR/Tolkien fans and scholars before spending my time; lest I risk wasting my time.

The best scene is when Eomer finds her on the battle field, thinking she is dead. The crumpled, distraught expression of grief on his face was overwhelming. Shame they cut it out of the butchered, Theatrical, cut version. But I only bought the Uncut DVDs. They were not "extended" at all. They were uncut. Butcher-free. {o:O:}

They should've kept it in, they could've added something akin to a hope to the future but a memory of the past type of music while they were dressing him in his armor. I know some of you will say that the song he sings is exactly that but no it isn't it's him basically taking an oath to his first forefather that landed on middle earth and promising to create a future for him and his people just like the first king did

As far as deleted scenes go, I think the worst offender is the death of Saruman. I seem to recall Christopher Lee being somewhat hurt that his final scene didn't make the theatrical cut. (And I suspect that he already may have been disappointed knowing that the Scouring of the Shire was never going to be included at all.) Thankfully, though, he got another chance with The Hobbit, and while I know many people don't think as highly of those movies, I feel like his final scene there made for a better sendoff for the character.

I think the extra work really shows. It's a scene that COULD have been filmed simply, but it's a blessing that it wasn't. The reason the average viewer doesn't think it took so long is because of the craft that went into it, and into this trilogy at every level. It COULD have been a simple point-and-shoot but that would have stood out. Sometimes the extra effort going into simple scenes are what makes the difference between a good film and a great film
