My friend James has done amazing work to restore two early 1970s Lotus Elan +2s. They're both beautifully restored and are really great to drive. I was overjoyed to help him drive them up to the Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble so he could accept the invitation to have them on displayed in pride of place, next to a mint Ferrari Dino, courtesy of The Market (themarket.bonhams.com/).
Both cars are currently for sale, please comment if you're interested and I'll point you in the right direction.
One car is fully original and one had donated the original Lotus engine so now has a 2 litre Ford Zetec and a TVR gearbox. James has designed and built the Zetec restoration's engine layout so closely to the original that it had the assembled enthusiasts at Bicester Heritage's Sunday Scramble baffled! He has even machined a replica of the Lotus rocker cover.
Apart from their heritage, pedigree and the astonishing engineering that has gone into both cars you can hear how much fun they are in my laughter on the drive!
Thanks again to The Market and all at Bicester Heritage. We had a great time, the day absolutely flew by. Above all, I grew up absolutely loving my uncle's Elan so this was a dream come true for me, thanks so much James.
