Oliver, well done so far. Be aware that the shims from Burton dont measure exactly what the say they are. Some are under and others over. If you are going there take your micrometer and measure them in the shop. Good luck with getting it back together , mine took ages.

Good luck with your valve adjustment. I wanted to remind you to glue your cam cover gasket to your cam cover with silicone sealer and then smear regular inexpensive grease on the gasket before you bolt the cam cover down. You should have no trouble getting your cam cover off again and the gasket will stay nice for many cam cover removals! 🙂

Great idea with timing chain & bungee's

Nice work Oliver, and first time where I felt ahead of you on the Elan voyage of discovery; I was waiting for your realisation about Nodiz vs Distributor for timing. When I did mine recently I removed the timing chain tensioner. It will probably be easier to reassemble the sprockets that way. Also, maybe stuff some kitchen towel down the timing case to protect against dropping a dowel or sprocket attachment washer into the void and having to remove sump to fish it out. On the other hand, if you filmed the moment when the drop happened, it could make for entertaining KZfaq viewing. While you have cams out, it is worth checking whether your drive dowels are straight or offset, and if so which way.
