It is highly possible that your rattling is indeed a tappet bucket, very common on Twinks with a few miles under their belt. The reason it is intermittent is that they rotate slowly in service and as they get to a tighter bit they quieten down for a bit. Nothing to worry about. In fact Twinks can run for many thousands of miles rattling merrily away to themselves. The late Ken Snailham of QED always used to say he was more suspicious of a totally quiet Twin Cam than a noisy one, as it usually meant there were no clearances anywhere and the chain was too tight! Nice to see an Elan being used enthusiastically. Nowadays so many of them sit in garages, barely turning a wheel form one year to the next.

I had a similar knocking/ticking/clacking sound on my 1973 Fiat 124 Spider. It happened almost exclusively on decel, and it was also present at idle like in your video. Maybe it could be a bearing that’s not as healthy as others? Some great driving!

NIce car, old style roll but very predictable, boring track. Wears left side tyres mostly.
