Technical problems with the posted video aside, this was one of the best episodes of this outstanding series and shows why Marchand won Emmy after Emmy for this role. The casting, acting, direction, writing and production values of this entire series was the best in the business, the likes of which we'll never see again.

Ed Asner was fantastic, and made this show great; but Marchand was the "special sauce" of that made it greater, whether it was a small or big roll in the plot. That was established in the very 1st episode. That's what made THIS episode so compelling. It makes you think what the series would look like without her.. she just HAD to live! Unfortunately, Linda Kelsey didn't get her due rewards, because she was up against Marchand every year for that Emmy. The fact that "Lou Grant" consistently had 2 nominees in the same category is a testament to the quality of the show.

That was an amazing piece of acting by Nancy Marchand, it was almost like She actually had a real stroke. I remember Kirk Douglas as He was recuperating from His stroke and Nancy's speech, facial expression and body language was almost exactly like His in real life. Her first step brought H2O to my eye. Thank you mtmepisodes for uploading it, flaws and all.

Nancy Marchand's acting was superb!..... My mother had numerous strokes, as did her father. now my blood pressure is high....I thought it mainly contributed to heart attacks...I think I better get back on my B/P meds...although they make me feel very run down, and I already have so many different diseases that cause me to not function well at all. Some of these episodes are very informative...thanks for uploading them!!

Heartrending - my mother had her stroke a few months before she passed away, she had alzheimer's for a few years before the stroke. This brings back those memories of that particular time. I miss her so much.

Nancy Marchand won 4 Emmys for Best Supporting Actress. Sadly, Linda Kelsey won none. She should've at least gotten ONE, she was outstanding too.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, she was always up against Marchand for the same show. A testament to the quality of the show..

I can't remember the last time I saw television snow. It is sort of a welcome nostalgic experience really! I doubt we missed anything extremely important to the story, at least to a point that we cannot catch up. I know this is sort of splitting hairs a bit and I am sure it was not meant to be but the "how many pennies in a dime" question is a trick question. There is zero pennies in a dime. There is ten cents in a dime and there is one cent in a penny. There is also copper in dimes (as well as quarters) and has been ever since the sixties to save silver for the Vietnam War.

For maybe a decade before my dad died in his late 80s, his doctors were concerned for his low blood pressure. And yet, it was a massive stroke that took him out of here. Oh Luuuuuucyyyyyy, you got some 'splain' to do!

Not to say it spooked me, but I took my blood pressure meds right after watching this episode. Could be a PSA for stroke prevention.

I feel Rossi's pain. When I first became an assistant editor, I did a lot of rewriting of other people's articles. Eventually, I realized that there are a lot of things I don't need to rewrite, and that there are times when it is best to speak with reporters as I go through their work.

Strokes, aka cerebrovascular events, are a VERY difficult thing to bounce back from usually. If you have a moderate or bad one, your life as you knew it is over and your family or caregivers are stuck taking care of you forever. LIVE HEALTHY!!! Don't drink, don't smoke!! Don't survive on artery-clogging food! Exercise!

Mrs. Pynchon does a Wylie Coyote = the magic of television. Still, encapsulated as it is, this episode remains a tour de force for the late Nancy Marchand.

As accurate as the episode was about strokes, I think they messed up just a bit. The left side of her face was drooping (paralyzed) so shouldn't her left arm be in a sling at the end, not her right? From what I know, the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and visa versa.

She is paralyzed on her right side, but it is her left eye that is squinted. Maybe like me, she can’t squint her right eye. She is also talking with the right side of her mouth. If that was easier for her, they could have just said she was paralyzed on her left side.

12:30 $1,500 in 1981 is $4,268.61 in 2020... a helluva lot of money. 15:38 $150 is $426.86 in 2020 I know this is sort of petty but the static just after 15:38 sort of takes me back. You don't see TV snow anymore. Fred (Pinchon's nephew) reminds me of my neighbor and friend of mine when he had his stroke and was impaired. I am sorry to say that his family (daughter, son-in-law and his adult grandson) all wanted that old man dead to take what few possessions he had. 13:48 Poor choice of words... that is outright liberalism. Trying to protect the students from themselves.
@Zoomer306 жыл бұрын
Ironic when they called Mr Grant conservative when in fact the show got canceled due to Ed Asner pushing a liberal agenda on the scripts.
