The Bronx Grand Concourse portrayal of a Jewish mother was so accurate. Middle class, some were a bit gaudy, very New York. Pristine lobbies and huge apartments with dining rooms behind french doors. We have a huge rent stabilized Concorse apartment thats been in my family for generations. The neighborhood is very shabby but I rent rooms out for a handsome profit and use one of the empty rooms for storage and the other for when I visit NY alone and dont want to pay for a hotel. How I wish I could time travel to the 20s through the 70s when it had that middle class allure with NYC edge.

Rhoda's mother was from the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. Even in the early seventies a Concourse woman would turn their nose up at many Manhattan buildings and neighborhoods. The grandeur of a Concourse apartment and lobby can be seen in the wedding episode.

This show started out with such promise. And then they messed it up. Main reason was the additional surrounding characters- i.e. Benny Gary and Nick. I will definitely exclude Nance Walker from this list. She was the best. Writing suffered. They wrote the soul out of Rhoda.

Filming the scene with the protestors on the street, Linda Kelsey had a gruesome accident with one of the vans of the story. She actually flew in the air with a bad maneuver of the driver, and her left arm was all fractured. The injury of the last scene was real. 🌈👽🦸‍♀✡🚘🚔🪫🪗🎼🔋🤖🇮🇱! 🇺🇦!!!!!!!!

People in the comments on other videos have mentioned that Joe had a bunch of "red flag" behavior, but the truth is Rhoda came into the marriage with unfinished business and baggage too. That is one of the reasons I love the character. She's imperfect and that made her more real.

Looking back after all these years - I’m thinking that perhaps Roda needed more from Joe than he was able to offer. As a loving husband, possibly he could have given more emotional support to Roda. I love both of the characters-and wish that the writers could have set them on a more universal and positive journey. Marriage isn’t for everyone - especially during the 1970s when there were radical societal changes in the world. ❤
