This is such brilliant writing: love the sly references to Lou’s time at WJM-TV (the MTM show) in these episodes. At @20:12 when Mrs. Pynchon says she wanted to serve the “Veal Prince Orloff” - a French dish that Suzanne the Happy Homemaker makes for one of Mary’s infamous parties - it’s poignancy defined.

It's OK, Mr. Grant -- just remember, if Mrs. Pynchon does serve Veal Prince Orloff, remember to take only ONE serving! 😊

This, like the other Lou Grants, a few being a memory from my early teens, are very well written and thought out and the actors make the characters very human.

40:31 Nancy Marchand had prooven with this almost Oskar worthy perfect performance that the elder actors and actresses with their long and experience ripe years are the backbone of every good show

Nancy Marchand was YOUNGER than Ed Asner! She was playing a character quite a bit older than herself. She was born in 1928.

Margaret Hamilton's Thea Taft first appeared in the third season episode "Hollywood". I love it when we get a second - or more - appearance from a Tribune employee, past or present!

The voice on the tape is the voice of the guy that plays Adam on the show. He is the voice used anytime they need an unseen reporter or announcer.

As GOT would say it: "You don't simply hide that voice" From the sounds of it, the set your average JJ Abrams movie was safe when compared to The Wizard of Oz. Hamilton (the WWotW) almost burned to death when the trap door in the stage malfunctioned during her POOF! scene. They had to stop production for a few weeks due to her serious burns. And the people who had to shoot the tornado were exposed to sulfur fumes (used in the smoke that created the dust color.) and were jacking up yellow crap from their lungs. Pre pre PRE OSHA.

So funny when Rossi asks Lou if he thinks the voice on the tape is familar. How they kept a straight face is beyond me. It's the actor who plays Adam (he does all of the bit part voice over stuff. PA at the airport, radio DJs etc)

One thing I noticed is throughout the show's run Mrs. Pynchon never called Lou by his first name like she did with Charlie.

Lou was the new kid on the block. Hume had been around for many years. Familiarity I think was the difference. Or not.

I personally think it's Mrs. Pynchon's affair decades earlier...notice how Rossi couldn't hardly even say hello to her on the elevator, he finds it hard to think of her the same way now, an older, dignified, refined, cultured, affluent woman~~~yet now he knows she was just like him in a sense ...but I could be wrong.
