I am also from Racine. Born and raised. In fact, Greg's dad was one of my English professors in college and he had a baseball hat in his office that said 'Dad Religion'.

@@EdwoodCA what! Graham's the shit, all his interviews feel so much less like band members painfully answering boring questions and much more like a fan having a conversation with a friend.
@EdwoodCA
@EdwoodCA 4 жыл бұрын
@@patsquanch From that perspective of boring answers to standard questions, I definitely agree with you. But in this case, for me, it's the other side of the coin. Breaking it down: Good answers from the interviewee. Good questions inherent from the format/idea. These two elements would remain good with a better [or more traditional] style of interviewing. So, the factor that remains which is not great, is the manner the interviewer conducts the interview. It's mildly painful to watch. But that's just my lone opinion, not anymore valid than anyone else's. eg. Imagine Sean Evans of Hot Ones doing the interviewing here. That'd be a great one. Sean Evans is a fantastic, non-standard interviewer. Cheers! kzfaq.info/sun/PLAzrgbu8gEMIIK3r4Se1dOZWSZzUSadfZ

I just wanted to add that this was an insightful interview. Many moons ago in my kid days, I was making skins for WinAmp as a hobby. I emailed Bad Religion to see if it was okay to use their art, and the reply was "go for it" and signed Greg Graffin. I'm not sure if he was the one that actually replied to me, but the idea of "go for it" changed me. Thank you.

I don't believe he meant the kind of offence you assume, in fact I don't really see how it's offensive? Everyone knows that Blink, for many years, WERE a juvenile band, they were a pop-punk band, and a lot of young kids related to their music. Bad Religion are neither juvenile nor pop-punk, their lyrics are just way more mature, it appeals to an older crowd, it's not really rocket science. Blink was like a gateway band for a LOT of kids to get into punk, hardcore whatever you wanna call it, mainly because live, they were just as fast and loud as any hardcore band, and that's just what he says. Bad Religion are an independent band, they own their own label, which happens to be the biggest independent label of all time, if they didn't want to tour with Blink, they wouldn't have done it, they got a lot of new fans from that tour.

Greg Graffin is my absolute favorite punk vocalist, I have all of his solo work as well. I love the fact his progress and achievements in life not only prove the type of music you listen to does not dictate who you are but also spits in the face of all the parents that said listening to punk rock will get you nowhere. As a Wisconsin born guy living in Milwaukee, Greg Graffin is in my opinion the most famous person from my state.

I had Greg as a TA in Amy McCune’s “Biology of Fishes” course back in 1990 at Cornell. He also taught the lab for that course, sat in on Amy’s lectures, and went on our field trips. He was a great TA and was as smart and patient as he is in this interview. For some reason I think he used to rollerblade around campus and he may have even played intramural hockey, although my memory may be wrong. I remember listening to a few songs of one of his albums at the fish fry we had at Amy’s at the end of the year, and I said, “this sounds like Iron Maiden’s first album”. Anyway, Greg is a great guy and as down to earth as you see in this interview.

That blink/bad religion tour came to my hometown and I was probably the only person that didn't attend. After that concert every weenie in my school had a bad religion shirt and were asking me for my advice in bands to listen to. What a bizzarre time!

@@BegetterVIIEVEN I hope you've explored the albums since you wrote that comment one year ago, but in case you didn't and still want recommendations, their "classic" albums I'd say are Suffer and No Control. Recipe for Hate, Against the Grain and The Gray Race are also well regarded, usually. I think all of their albums have at least some songs on them that are worth listening to, but I think the one album I never get tired of from start to finish is The Process of Belief.
