nah, he said he already expected it means, whatever left from that ship crew is just the coward since the brave ones died defending against thanapod and he stuck with them. got small amount of bullet too, and 1 row boat apparently? With all of them trying to defend themselves, he needs a way to make them work under his order at least mid way phaiden island, so he could survive too

Considering what it did to a seasoned crew? It could demolish a colony of civilians, and slink back into the shallows/wilderness where it wouldnt be found. It wouldnt be an instant massacre of the entire populace, but the island would be doomed regardless.

Even if it wouldn't kill the whole colony, a lot of people would die before it was stopped. Anything short of blowing up the Thanapod in a big fireball explosion won't take it down. Guns, blades, and all other weapons a colony of probably fishermen and foresters might have wouldn't even scratch the thing.

1. The first man is killed because they're was already animosity between the 2 and Torrin had the gun. I'm sure the other crew saw the man as a physical threat if they had to fight him like Torrin. 2. He probably knew the rest of the crew would leave him for dead or kill each other if the plan was to blow up the ship. They can't all fit on that small boat. 3. Once again, he had the gun. They're not going to question the man with the gun. 4. If he's was selfish then he would not have cared about the people on the island the way the rest of the crew did not. The vote count confirmed to him that his entire crew would sacrifice an entire island if it meant saving themselves. He knew he alone would be the only one up to the task of killing the Thanapod or ferrying it as far away from civilization. I'd actually call him quite selfless.

5. If everyone marked an X, why didn't they get suspicious when Torrin only killed the two brothers?

Another idae has come to my mind, why did Torrin put it to the vote when he is already determined to force his decision on the others? Why did he present Phaiden Island as a choice in the first place, then punished who votes for it, the 2 brothers did absolutely nothing than using their given right to vote. Same as with the last man - the coward

@@sun--city The man chose him first when they drew sticks and he became the leader. So in a way it was payback, they had nothing else to feed the beast and I'm sure the others saw him as a physical threat as well. I'm sure no one was going to question Torrin with the gun because they themselves were all cowards and probably thought they could take Torrin much easier but they didn't count on his intellect. I'm sure Torrin knew the rest would try to kill him so he made what could necessary evil choice. He was determined to save the people of Phaeden Island where as his crew were the true cowards. He held the vote as a way of weeding out the cowards amongst them. Once it became clear that they would all be against his decision he had to start whittling the crew down little by little. He may have killed his own crewmen but he saved an entire island in doing so. Once again, a necessary evil.
