When it comes to the way we give and receive love, we each have unique preferences that can change over time.
These "love languages" are influenced by factors such as our upbringing, attachment styles, and relationship history.
In this episode of #GayMenGoingDeeper, we're going deeper into the Love Languages, specifically answering questions such as:

So, for me, first is quality time, then words of affirmation, physical touch, acts of service, and very far behind gifts. I’m surprised because both times that I took the test I got similar results and I thought that physical touch was more important to me, and it is, but maybe not as much. I love giving quality time, I’m also very pleasing physically, and acts of service and words are important for me to offer but they may not be as special to me, they are more routine. Thanks for a fantastic episode and for sharing, I love getting to know you all. X

My Top Love Languages Giving 1. Physical Touch 2. Words of Affirmation Receiving 1. Physical Touch 2. Quality Time I think the reason why gifts and acts of service were always low on my priority was because I grew up believing that I didn't have anything valuable to offer, i.e. money and skills. Therefore, I would rely on forms of love that were simple and cost me nothing. As an adult, I am slowly learning that I _am_ capable of doing valuable services for people, I don't need that much money to buy something nice for someone, and I am worthy, period. As a result, I've noticed that I've started to give gifts a lot more and do acts of service that I enjoy for my partner. They're still not #1, but they're much higher on the list now than they used to be. At the end of the day, I'm a simple guy. Just feed me and fuck me then I'm happy. 🥰

@37:00 OMG Michael. Same. Same! SAME!!! I have gone through the same journey as a gay man, and I rebel too when I find myself falling into that people-pleasing tendency! My favorite people are those who let me be my authentic self, and I cannot do that in my hometown.

Another great episode! I always love the conversation. I love the idea of an episode about dating with integrity, it's something I try my best to practice - I would also love some real talk about when and how to use that block button, because not everyone is respectful or sensitive to boundaries when they are communicated. It can be especially complicated when a guy exists in multiple social circles & on various apps!

I've never been in a meaningful relationship so maybe I'm taking the test wrong but acts or service came up as my top love language. This makes sense to me since I have always seen love as being more of an action than a feeling. Love and lust get confused a lot.

Interesting how you guys keep specifying that quality time means "away from your phone". For me, it doesn't matter. My partner and I could be in separate rooms or in bed together while on our phones, and it would feel just as comforting to me as being present with each other. Just knowing that they are there and available is enough for me.

Great discussion! I personally like giving and receiving physical touch. I also like giving words of affirmation, especially to those I’ve only met online. Being a Piscean, I like to think of myself as a peacekeeper as well. This can manifest itself as wanting to pleasure someone and also elevating them to break down barriers.

I love being chosen too Matt, and Micheal when you said the part about being a people pleaser and wanting quality time I felt so heard (quality time is my love language too); and I feel like how we recieve love can be influenced by our unmet needs in childhood and how we give love can be how we learnt to give love from our parents or our experience with loving them; and the sixth love language being a huge, juicy brain really hit home (my way of giving love is words of affirmations too so I have to comment:)
