I've listened to the demo of Bloody Kisses and it's brilliant! There weren't any new new tracks on it that I heard though? They renamed Suspended in Dusk though which was cool and it had some new lyrics. As for October Rust, are you talking about that neat little 5 or 6 track one that Peter did for Josh? If it's the one I'm thinking of, with Green Man, Haunted and Matchstick Men (Peter's Vocals) then yeah, it's great!!!

I couldn't help but laugh when I read your request for me to do "Love You To Death" as I was already preparing its release at that time! To answer your question; no. Everything you see is what you're hearing. That said, there are so many layers to this stuff that it's really impossible to show you guys everything that's going on. When they played this live they'd play that keyboard part on guitar but I understand it to be a keyboard part on the studio recording. Well noted though!!!

+Covered In Slime Well that explains it. I imagine these videos take a significant amount of time to put together considering the high quality. I appreciate your efforts. Regarding the guitar/synth issue, I saw Type O live back in 03 (I was 13 at the time). I believe the tour was called Blood Food for the Blood Gods tour and it was in promotion of the album Life is Killing Me. They sounded great live. One of the songs in the set list was Love You to Death and I remember the guitarist performing those synth parts on guitar which was surprising. Could it be improvisation? Maybe. I remember in an interview the keyboard player saying something of the effect of "We use guitars to play keyboard parts and keyboards to play guitar parts" and specifically referred to the album October Rust. I suspect he was probably talking about this song and maybe Cinnamon Girl. But seriously who knows? There's just so much going on in this song, crazy sonic information.

+Bradford Thornton I'd be lying if I said they didn't take a long time, yeah. Probably more than anything I find them very draining though. It's all worth it in the end though, for sure. Thanks you for acknowledging that though!!! Yeah, definitely. I wouldn't say "improvisation" as such because I've noticed that the guitarist, Kenny Hickey, did play that consistently when they did the live shows. Even on the Bizarre Festival performance he does it! And yeah, that's a massive part of their sound with guitars and synths kind of swapping roles. Obviously with my videos I use a maximum of 4 panels at a time but there is usually up to about 80 tracks in total and there are so many weird and different things going on at various points of the song that you may not even notice without stripping the mix back. Sometimes that is a quiet synth part, other times a quiet guitar part. You are 101% correct though in saying "who knows"! It's just such a sonic overload that it's near impossible to hear everything that's going on. Just a part of Type O's genius I guess! ;) (Thanks for taking your time to give such a long reply! I love replying to these kind of messages! Super interesting!!!!!!).

I've been listening to October Rust everyday for the last two weeks and I have to say that, on my system, it sounds like a guitar part. No midi instrument is that convincing, to my ears. Of course we both have different listening setups and possibly different sources (I have the vinyl for this album). How exactly do you listen to this album? You must have a Hi Fi setup since you were able to catch all of the nuances, details, layers ectr of this song. Another question. What exactly did you do to capture Peter's and Kenny's instrument tonality? I think you might be the closest to mimicking their respective guitar tones. Also thanks for the insight in how you create these videos. In the future could you ever consider doing one for Burnt Flowers Fallen? I've seen some decent bass covers for that song but that's it. It's a shame because that and Green Man are my favorite Type O songs.

Also, allow me to make an observation. If you disagree then feel free to tell me to fuck off. I know you have the bass heavily fuzzed because that's what Peter did. But I'm thinking with YOUR voice, your range, and the tonal characteristics of your particular voice, I think backing off the bass fuzz some, using a smoother P-bass tone that fills out the lower end more, would better compliment your singing and fill out your sound all around.

I appreciate your suggestion about cutting the distortion out a bit! It's cool that you actually suggested it but I guess for what I'm doing I'm trying to imitate the sound as closely as possible, which means the distortion kind of has to be there. I'll keep what you had to say in mind though for my own (original!) compositions! Thank you! :)

I'm not quite sure I understand....do you just mean the bass tone? If so, Pete used BOSS pedals exclusively (at least for a large portion of his career). He used a DS-1, DD-3 and CE-5! These are the pedals that I used to replicate his tone in this cover. If you have any further questions, I have photographic proof of Peter using these effects that I'd gladly share with you. :) You would absolutely be able to replicate this tone with a GT-10 though, yeah. Just a good, modern distortion tone with the distortion pumped all the way up with the tone at about 11:00 would be fine and with chorus with the depth at a bout 60%, rate at 50% and wetness at 100% should do the trick. I've never played with the GT-10 though so this may require a little bit of tweaking!
