It’s fine that Frakes was honest about fans being a bit off, I mean, it’s 100% true. But the fact the he’s grown to appreciate the fans and honestly likes them now shows that he’s a decent guy.

Star Trek:TNG was way ahead of its time; plus it had budgets, set, and new technologies that put it visually way ahead of everything at the time. Science was embraced; it raised your IQ to watch it. One of the best shows (and movies) of all time. Frakes was an excellent actor (and director), but he definitely seemed to have gotten the "Shatner Syndrome" even way back then. Then, and now, at conventions, interviews, etc, he just never takes anything seriously; like he hates the fans. It's kind of a shame, since the fans were what propelled the show, after all. But oh well, that's how it goes with hollywood I guess. This was a pretty great gem of an interview, regardless... Arsenio was insightful about how fit the actors were. They were all INCREDIBLY fit, across the board. Now we have a bunch of fat slobs on reality TV. TV doesn't reach this level of imagination, quality, writing, etc anymore.
@mainstreetsaint369 жыл бұрын
So true, so true. TNG still amazing to this day due to that level attention and great production values. As for Frakes hating the fans, I would say he gets annoyed at the more fanatical ones.

Youngsters may not know but back in the day The Arsenio Hall Show was THE newest and HOTTEST Show going. Johnny was on the way out so Jay was taking over, and Letterman was still around too. But it didn't matter, Arsenio was THE PARTY you had to go to. And the fact that Jonathan Frakes was there lets you know how popular STTNG was too.

Frakes is hilarious talking about " they pay you to go to a Star Trek convention !!!
@bigfanboy7 жыл бұрын
Back in those days they actually did. It used to be actors on Next Gen got paid to go and just give a talk at a convention, it wasn't until years later the signings became the norm. They used to make crazy money just to come and do a Q&A, no signing, and they could fill 20,000 seats or more. Times have changed, but mainly because there's so many more conventions out there now and the fans have different expectations.

Because Star Trek is set in the future and is therefore ultimately timeless, whereas Arsenio Hall is just about the most late 80s/early 90s type show imaginable^^

I wonder if conventions have gotten less wierd or he has gotten more grateful because he seems to enjoy doing them now! Or maybe with age comes sense of humor. Thanks for posting this!

I am sure he's trying to seem "hip" since he's appearing on Arsenio, but I found his references to conventions a little disrespectful. I have a feeling he would have a lot to say about that clip, now.

@@emdee7744 I don't think he feels like that now, the fandom has made his career for the last 30 years. There also are a lot of weird fans and you see them every time you go to a con. I'm sure the positives have outweighed the negatives by now.

@LisaNYC70 I meant the guy that plays Q, he really wants to stay away from people,especially those that want his autograph. Last year I ran twice into a guy that looked just like Frakes but that was 20 years younger than him he kept asking me if I knew who Frakes was,very strange. Does he maybe have a look a like or relatives that do the grocery shopping for him?

@quelita28 Which him? Stewart I met twice at Con and once on the street at 8am in Manhattan. He actually recognized me as I had JUST gone to the Con the day before lol. Really sucked that I spilled my coffee on my uniform (worked for an airline at the time as was heading to HQ). So embarrassing lol. Frakes I met three times. Always very nice. I notice he becomes overwhelmed quickly though but so do many other people. The dude that plays Q, sadly I met HIM 5 times. JERK!

After the show... What did you think? Do you think there's more to Arsenic's head? How do you explain the resemblance between it and the infamous TR-3B UFO? Can you see the pattern laid out before you, or are you stuck in a triangle?

@LisaNYC70 I got to work with John deLancie within the last year and a half, and he was very relaxed, no security...in fact, he only had one person handling the autograph money (either myself or another person) We talked about motorcycles and a lot of other stuff. :)

skaarlett1 your comment is five years old but I hope your still on line somehow to see my comment. you got to work with delance?? @quelita28 As for John de Lancie or Q, I worked at a Con once doing security. A friend was running the Con in NJ. I was assigned to HIM. Me and 3 others. He insisted we stand on either side of him and behind him at his autograph signing session as IF people were going to attack him. If one of us stood TOO CLOSE he barked at us. I am not a fan so I didn't care if he had me tossed out lol. I wasn't getting PAID. Not sure about a Frakes look alike :)

@Joliie Hi Jollie, I didn't mean to insult Mr. Frakes. I just don't know him and don't know how he reacts to viewers of the show. If he is nice to you and to the rest then that is great. However, some actors in that show don't treat the public very well ( Marina Sirtis,Picardo,Will Wheaton and Le var Burton). I have met those 4 in conventions and they haven't treated me well at all. Of the new Star Trek Movie,Saldana,Pine and Yelchin treated me horribly. I am glad Frakes is a nice guy.
