Brandi and Laz Robinson look like a pretty conventional couple: Laz, 38, works in solar engineering, Brandi, 36, is a stay at home mum who (pre-Covid19) homeschools their three kids and has a penchant for coupon shopping. But behind closed doors they practice domestic discipline, a type of relationship which sees Laz dole out punishments to Brandi, from line writing to spanking. Domestic discipline is where one partner takes on the dominant rule maker (and enforcer) role, while the other partner is the submissive. In the case of the Robinsons, Laz is the ‘head of house’, or HOH, while Brandi is the ‘taken in hand’ or TIH. It also adheres to traditional gender roles with Brandi doing the cooking and housework, while Laz looks after the garden and related manual chores. The pair, from Columbus, Ohio, claim that being in a domestic discipline relationship has made them closer as a couple.

It's not uncommon for children, even small children, to have better sense than their parents. I recall my mother bathing me and I begged her, "Don't mention HIM anymore!" I referred to a boyfriend she had years prior to her meeting my Dad but whom I was being told about on a regular basis. As a child, I knew it was harming me to be dragged into a romance that ended prior to my birth. For about 10 years, Mom and I fought The Battle of the Dirty Kleenexes. Facial tissues were sold: "Why keep a cold in yr pocket?" Used once and the snot, together with germs, were to be discarded. My mother held onto dirty tissues and I got in trouble for discarding them. Yes, children can have more sense than parents.

This isn't making sense. If neither of them like doing things that hurt each other why the hell are they doing it? Why is she making him do things to her she doesn't like? If it hurts her and she doesn't like it, isn't that simply abuse, even if she asked for it? Because corporal punishment (on children) has always been abuse, and this is the same thing. People can certainly "consent" to abuse without realizing it. Do they realize they don't have to do things in their relationship that they don't like? I just wanna know what happened to this woman in her childhood that makes her feel the need to do this. If she wants an unconventional relationship, that's fine, but she doesn't have to do things in the relationship that she doesn't like. Make it make sense.

see my only questions are; where are these "benefits" to the relationship they mention, and why would you even involve your kids? Lazarus admitted he was hesitant to even try it, and Brandi says she hates the punishments and the tedium of some of them. so where are these ends that "justify the means"? neither of them get anything positive out of this, so how does it contribute to the relationship in any positive sense? it just seems to be a miserable aspect of the relationship that neither of them like to be part of. and the kids being taught about it, like why involve them in any way?

Since she brought it into their relationship she must know herself well and what she needs to thrive in it. And she probably wants her marriage to last and not end due to out of control anger issues and volatility. Many do well when they know where the boundaries are and respect them. If it works for them, and is consensual, it's far better than seeing a broken home, with children struggling to live.

I’m actually worried about the husband. He doesn’t seem all that comfortable with it. More like he is just accustomed to it at this point.
