This movie could've been salvaged if it became a sister bonding movie where Sabrina Carpenter trains Jodi to do pageantry and gain confidence in her height and herself. Cut out the stupid tall jokes and just make her like regular insecure and bullied. Her pageant talent is singing which she comes up with after singing with Stig. Bonus points if she wins in a Taylor Swift-esque gown to live out her childhood goal

Jodi could’ve been a really interesting character. Like I’ve heard that the actress who plays Jodi, Ava Michelle, had a lot of trouble as a dancer because she’s far above the height of the average dancer. They could’ve used that in this movie and Jodi could’ve been a dancer who’s insecure but tries her best to succeed, despite being insecure, and then growing into herself and owning it. Also I am also 5’8” and I see you and I appreciate you.

Yes! I did ballet as a kid but had a lot of trouble because I'm just too big so I switched to tap and at one point hoped to be a Rockette, but then I grew too tall :( I'm 6'3. And that could have been a really interesting plotline

@@ms.unknown5665 she is from dance moms but a lot of people take the ‘Ava you’re too tall for us today’ out of context - what actually happened was, Ava had competed AGAINST the ALDC with her mum’s studio, then came back for Nationals as if nothing had happened, and her mum was saying ‘give me a reason why she’s off the team’ and Abby said that she was too tall for the team as a ‘reason’. I mean, Abby said a hell of a lot of stuff that was not okay, but the tall comment was so badly taken out of context over and over again

I have an online friend who was already 6’6” at the age of 11. He was already taller than his 6’5” dad at that age. He was even taller (and not to mention more muscular) than his gym teacher when he was 12 and already 6’8”. At 15, he was probably around 7’2” already. And he’s now 7’8.5” at 31. He struggled to find shoes and clothes that fit him but he still found ways. Plus, people didn’t mock him for his height, if anything, he was admired for how gigantic he is. And to make it even more ironic, his wife is only 4’4” and she doesn’t even reach his hips because of their size difference. The movie could’ve criticised the double standards that men being tall (or even having gigantism) is a great thing but women being tall somehow makes them outcasts. Same goes for the opposite side, women being short or even having dwarfism is considered very adorable and makes them look like kids but men being short makes them pathetic. But no, they just focused on teen drama.

I think the only part of this satire that doesn't work is it working the other way around. Yes, short girls are seen as adorable but most female models are at least 5'8'', so tall women are still seen as beautiful.

As a tall girl, there are so many subtle pains and problems that we have to deal with. I mean, I'm a girl, and relatively tall (5' 11") and like, no one has like, commented on it other than, "oh you're pretty tall" and the reason I hate being tall has nothing to do with other people, it mostly internal, I hate feeling imposing or domineering, and don't like clearly sticking out of a group of people, also, it's part of the gender Dysmorphia i feel from being trans, like, height is usually masculine, and my height is one of the many traits that i can't change. I wanted this movie to like, maybe comfort that feeling, but instead it just made me mad at hw so clearly disconnected adults are from modern teens

i know my grandmother was heavily made fun of in school for being taller than most of the girls. it made her really insecure for a long time. I heard of a lot of other women getting made fun of or unable to find a relationship due to being taller (less of a woman or smth for being tall idk men are weird about women), but movie is just... gross. it degrades issues that real people have with "mY liFe iS So hARd!! im tall, skinny, relatively pretty, and straight :( my problems are worse than everyone elses"

y'all realize. Tall Girl was made for this actress. She was on Dance Moms and Abby kicked her off for being tall. and it was a whole thing about her tallness should not define her and it was a huge deal. So they made this movie as a spin off of her actual life, and how Abby was mean cause she was Tall. Still a totally dumb thing to make a movie about. iirc it wasn’t bc she was too tall. tho that was the excuse and it was still a horrible thing abby did. but during avas solo her umbrella turned inside out and that kicked her off but then jeanette came back with ava (whether she wanted to or the producers did, this is dance moms) and abby said she was off the team. jeanette says she never got a reason or something like that so abby made ava stand next to chloe and then said she was too tall. but she was already off the team cause of the umbrella turning out/solo not doing well in abbys eyes. still horrible for that’s why abby chose but the times abby does anything decent is very very small

Same bitch, I am fifteen and 6 ft tall and honestly this film could’ve been great and actually showed how being tall can be shit sometimes but nah she had to go and fall in love with a guy who carries a milk crate who gave her DRAG QUEEN HIGH HEELS MADE FOR MENNN!!!!! Literally if someone gave me men high heels as I gift I would be so insulted. I have big feet but I’m still able to find shoes that fit me without going to the men’s section aghhhhhhh
