I disagree specifically for Camilla, I feel the show created her as he own person whereas in the book she’s mainly just an extension of billy. I love that in the end Camilla was willing to leave, and it wasn’t her begging daisy to leave so she could keep billy. In the show billy actually realises he could lose her and he chooses her.

Since you asked how it compares to the book: - In the book, Daisy and Billy NEVER kiss - Eddie and Camila never hook up (there’s an insinuation that Camila cheated on Billy with an ex of hers) - There’s more development in Karen and Camila’s friendship - They’re 60 when interviewed by Julia, not 40 - Daisy’s speech on the last episode in which she sends Billy off to Camila, doesn’t happen - There’s really powerful scenes that got cut out. I would recommend you looking them up because they’re amazing. I think the ones fans missed the most are Camila’s: “do you think there’s a woman alive better than what you have?”, Daisy and Camila’s conversation by the end of the book that inspired Daisy to get sober, and Karen and Graham’s “I don’t take shots I know I’ll miss” “I don’t think you’ll miss, Dune.” Is the best tv adaptation I’ve seen so far, I enjoyed the book but I’ve become OBSESSED with the show, which actually makes me like the book more.
@annarother7085

Tbh we ASSUME that 'Daisy and Billy NEVER kiss', cause the fun of the book is that they're telling all that to Julia so we don't know how reliable they are ;)

@@annarother7085 I’ve heard people saying that, but since we have a scene in which they almost do I prefer to believe that’s what actually happened. my only complaint about the show is that daisy’s friendship with the other members weren’t rlly shown and when she was talking about cami at the last part of her interview she says that she loves cami even though they dont know each other very well and another thing is that since it’s only a 20 yr time skip instead of 40 and camila dies earlier,,, cami ended up feeling like the “obstacle” in every love triangle ever which was not the case in the books even though daisy and billy would’ve always been end game

There were so many cute moments with Daisy and baby Julia in the novel that I wish the series could have included, like when Camila brought her to the recording studio one day and Daisy and Julia (as a toddler) talked about liking pineapples and even splitting one sometime (the show may have homaged this when Daisy brought a pineapple to the house party). Daisy called baby Julia "Chickidee" and even wrote her a song called "A Hope Like You". On their way home, baby Julia asked Camila if Daisy could be her best friend. Also, after Daisy spilled the tea to Rolling Stone, she didn't care if she hurt Billy, but felt super guilty about possibly hurting Billy's girls (in the novel, Billy and Camila have twin girls a couple of years after Julia).

This is my favorite part for the entire book : Billy : So I guess what I’m saying is, when we started singing “Honeycomb,” I either knew I was losing her or I didn’t. And I either knew I’d loved her or I didn’t. And I either appreciated her, for all she was in that moment…or maybe I didn’t. DAISY: I started singing and I looked at him. And he looked at me. And, you know what? For three minutes, I think I forgot we were performing for twenty thousand people. I forgot his family was standing there. I forgot we were singers in a band. I just existed. For three minutes. Singing to the man I loved. BILLY: The right song, at the right time, with the right person… DAISY: And then right before the end of the song, I looked over to the side of the stage to see Camila standing there. BILLY: And I just…[pauses] God, I was so frayed at the edges. DAISY: And I knew he wasn’t mine. He was hers. And then I…I just did it. I sang the song as Billy originally wrote it. No questions. “The life we want will wait for us/we will live to see the lights coming off the bay/and you will hold me, you will hold me, you will hold me/until that day.” It was the hardest line I’ve ever had to get through. BILLY: When I heard her, singing the lines as I originally wrote them, singing about this future that Camila and I would have…There had been so much doubt in my heart. So much doubt in myself that I could keep going down the good road I was on. And I…[breathes deeply] Those lyrics. That small gesture. For one moment, Daisy didn’t remind me that I might fail. She sang the song like she knew I’d succeed. Daisy did that. Daisy. I didn’t know how much I needed it until she gave it to me. And it should have just made me feel better but it hurt, too. Because if I was the man I wanted to be-if I could give Camila the life I’d promised her-well, I mean…there was loss in that, too. DAISY: I fell in love with the wrong guy who was exactly the right guy. And I had made decisions time and time again that made it worse and never made it better. And I’d finally pushed myself right over the edge. BILLY: When we got off the stage, I turned to Daisy and I didn’t have any words. She smiled at me but it was one of those smiles that isn’t a smile at all. And then she walked away. And my heart sank. It just became so perfectly clear to me that I had been holding on tightly to the possibility. The possibility of Daisy. And suddenly, I was having a very hard time with the idea of letting that go. Of saying, “Never.” DAISY: I saw Billy Dunne as he was coming off the stage and I didn’t trust myself to say a single word to him. I couldn’t be around him. So I waved goodbye and I left.

The ending with camila hits harder in the show than in the book because the Billy and daisy dynamic seemed more like a one sided love for daisy. I love how the show brings out how Billy really did love her but chose Camila because she balanced him out better. Him and Daisy are two sides of the same coin but Camila made him a better man. Daisy Jones and the Six is one of those pieces of media that I wish I could mix up the best of each version into one. I love Simone's arc from the series and Camila being less of a saint. I also love Daisy's having a daughter. In the book she adopts two boys, but since they fleshed out more her relationship with her narcissistic mother, I love the fact she can be the parental figure she wished she had as a little girl. As for the things I love from the book, I like that Billy was less of a douche and that Nicky was straight up manipulative. Also, I love the girl's in the band interact more.

twin flames! that’s perfect bc this whole time i’ve never liked the thought of billy and daisy ACTUALLY being together. i always felt they were too similar to actually work. they’re the same person in my mind. and in the book, i feel like there’s more of an emphasis on how they met at two diff stages of dealing with addiction. billy had overcame/was overcoming his, while daisy was actively still using drugs and gradually becoming worse. they were so similar, but so far apart and that’s what made their relationship so tense in every area. i do love the show, and i hate to say, but the book really gives more of an insight to this amongst other things like the girls relationships, billy as a father and husband, camila’s wisdom and power that really helped carry the group behind the scenes, karen’s individuality, how daisy really cares for her girl fans, etc.

Exactly this! Although the actors had insane chemistry which given the plot/nature of their characters makes sense, but I forget what exact moment this dialogue happens, but Daisy mentioned toward the end of the series that she had fallen in love several times after the band broke up. But out of all of them, things were different with Billy and always will be the one that impacted her on another level. She explained it’s because he loved the world like she loved the world. I think even Billy mentioned in the show at some point as well that Daisy saw all of him. She saw all his sides and just naturally felt comfortable around her to do so. Though Daisy’s husband, for the brief time he was, saying to her how sometimes you can’t tell the difference between your soulmate or a mirror (twin flame). I enjoyed that the show really captured exactly what it’s like to have a twin flame. I’ve been there before myself. You’re so similar with this person and fall for them so quickly with intense feelings. The lines get blurred quickly as to if it’s more lustful or if there’s a meaningful connection there. You tear yourself apart over and over again just for you and that person to figure out what you are to one another. It’s more painful knowing that every time you think it’s going to work, it won’t and that it’ll just fall apart because despite being almost the exact same person, you only really bring out each others’ bad habits and toxicity that needs to be fixed. You never truly balance one another out and it’s a constant battle. So at some point someone needs to let go and realize that they’re showing one another that they need to reflect and work on themselves. The person I had this with, although they are a terrible person, they showed me the bad habits I was brushing by. If it wasn’t for them I would’ve never been able to become a better person and know the difference between a soulmate and a twin flame. Sure Camila for Billy may have not been his soulmate in that traditional sense like we see in romance movies/shows or hear about in music, but it’s the fact she was always there for every side of him. She pushed him through the hard times even when he wasn’t aware of it. She did so much for the band, basically keeping everyone together. I’m just mad he didn’t realize it until it was almost too late at the last minute.

the book had two of my fave scenes ever - one with cami and daisy and one with karen and camila im so sad they didn’t include them. Also the show made it seem like a love triangle and billy was compromising when he LOVED camila and his girls more than daisy and that’s why he ultimately chose them. In the show it makes zero sense for camila to be like “give billy and daisy my blessing?” without the conversation she had with daisy. Also the way they handled the karengraham thing was so misogynistic- they made her the one still have feelings when it was the other way round AND miss karen karen would never have told the band about them. anyway the should did some things better like the OD and simone but ultimately as an adaptation i think it let the characters and a lot of fans down.

Reading the book and then watching the show right after made me realize that there’s different ways to interpret the story (I personally see it as since they may have remembered things wrong and we’re not fully reliable narrators what we see in the book is what they allow themselves to believe happen and what we see in the show is what actually happen which I think adds layers to the story as a whole) Though there were scenes I wished were done in the show but the overall portrayal and events are really well done

as someone who read and LOVES the book, i 100% agree with all your criticisms about the show. the thing is, the book is told ENTIRELY in the format of the interviews, so it's way more detailed and contains much more characterization. overall, i think the entire cast delivered, the music is amazing, and the general essence of the book was definitely well-captured, but there were some things they changed that just didn't sit right with me. in the book, karen has a LOT of dialogue that tells you way more about how from the get go she never wanted kids, and always planned on dedicating her life to music and performing because that was her true passion. billy's redemption arc is also WAY more developed and compelling; in my opinion the show kind of rushed his character growth compared to the book, where he's a lot easier to root for.

karen and camila's relationship was a lot more developed in the book prior to graham and karen sleeping together btw. karen loved that camila knew how to get her way, they always talked about things, she quite literally stayed in the band bc she loved camila's presence and loved the things that made her happy. i hated what they did with karen in the show and the fact that they downplayed her relationship with camila too.

THIS WAS SO GOOD. I PROCRASTINATED A 10 PAGE ESSAY TO BINGE THIS SERIES, NOW WATCHING YOUR REACTION TO IT AS I TRY TO FINISH THIS ESSAY. THE END WAS JUST SO UGH. (spoilers below, just had to comment on how much I loved the ending) GRAHAM AND KAREN BROKE MY HEART SO MUCH, GRAHAM WAS SO IN LOVE WITH HER BUT I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHY IT DIDNT WORK (sort of like a 500 Days of Summer type of way), THE REVEAL THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY JULIA BEHIND THE CAMERA FILMING THE DOCUMENTARY, THE INTERVIEW OF CAMILA BEFORE SHE DIED (THE WIG ADJUSTMENT WAS SO SIMPLE BUT MADE ME BAWL MY EYES OUT), THE WAY HER DAUGHTER TURNED OUT TO BE JUST LIKE HER MOTHER WITH A LOVE OF PHOTOGRAPHY/FILMING, THE WAY SHE TOLD BILLY AND DAISY TO GET TOGETHER, WARREN'S HAPPY ENDING WITH THE MOVIE STAR, IT WAS ALL JUST SO UGH

I will say though that it rlly rlly bugged me that they changed Eddie's ending... like idk why it irks me so much 'cause I genuinely held so much animosity towards him in the book 😭 but I hate that in the show they made him seem like, idk not a bum, but very much the guy in the band who misses the old days, trying obtain his youth, to gain back some fame and grasp back his 5 minutes. Whereas in the book, he's like pretty well off, he's a record producer who owns a whole recording studio, and -- in his word y'all, not mine 💀 -- ended up on top, or at least felt like he did. But maybe the change is due to the fact that they changed it from 20 years in the future instead of 40, idk. I just, for some reason, reeeally didn't like it 😭😭

totally agree with you!! i actually liked him way more in the show and didn’t really have a strong opinion on his character in the book but i remember feeling genuinely happy for him when he became a successful producer and found himself as one!! also i really liked the fact that eddie was never the first one to leave the band even though he had so much beef with billy, for some reason i thought it said a lot about his character to me and seeing that they changed it too kinda irked me

I agree they could've done so much more with Karen and Daisy's friendship. I feel like a lot of their scenes are not earned. However, I think they did an amazing job expanding and adding depth to Daisy's friendships with Simone and Camila. I loved that they tested Simone and Daisy's friendship and that Camila reacted more realistically to Daisy's relationship with Billy. In the book, Simone was just there to be Daisy's best friend and Camila and Daisy barely interacted at all.

What you said about karen not having her own arc. I 10000% agrée and it hurts my soul because she did in the book. She was my favourite in the book bc of it. But they really took away all the substance of her character in the show and just turned her into a pretty girl and that’s it. It just sucks .

I totally agree with your annoyance on the lack of scenes with Daisy and Karen and Camila and Karen. I wish we were shown more scenes to establish Karen as a character and not just in relation to her and Graham's relationship. I know they filmed scenes with daisy and karen, hope they release it.
