Her voice deepened a bit in 1987 and 1992- it gradually got raspier and thinner She didn't sound too bad in 2007-2008- 2009-2012 it was gone.

Her singing voice also deepened and matured and gave us that powerful mezzo-soprano voice we all know and love.

The 1992 bit was being around 30 and her voice began to lower along with being pregnant, and her subsequent pregnancies/miscarriages, and drug use just dropped it substantially.

Her voice dropped slightly around 87 and then again around 92-93. She then had a major drop between 96-97. Her voice changed so much each year between 96 til 2012. It got darker and raspier with each passing year til she eventually had little voice left by 2009 or so. It’s so sad to see, but that’s life. RIP To one of the greatest vocalists to ever do it.

I dont think it deepened around 87, because in 89 she still talked very high again. 87 and 88 she was just talking deeper either from being tired during those interviews

The cigarettes took her voice, but the drugs took her teeth. According to the autopsy report, Whitney had 11 of her front teeth missing, and was wearing a "maxillary dental prosthesis". And Tina Brown, the sister of Whitney's ex-husband Bobby Brown, claimed they fell out during crack cocaine binges, that would last for days. Even Aretha, a chronic chain-smoker, regained her upper singing register in the 90's when she stopped smoking in 1992.

its crazy how beautiful Whitney was. Usually when people are long term addicts they look like absolute shit, but for Whitney she just turned into an average decent looking woman after all the drug abuse she did. That how beautiful she was. God really did bless her, It was just too much for her to bare.

She had quite a lot of dental work done to hide the damage. She had lost several of her teeth by 2006 and by the time of her death also had a perforated septum and early stage emphysema. She could get the best wigs and makeup artists etc. Without that she would have looked...well, like a typical addict. There are some very upsetting photos of her circa 2005/6 that show how poor a state she was really in.

Notice, it’s always during or after a tour, her voice deepens or changes. 1990-1991(after her break in 1989)she was on tour. Listen to 1990 interview 1:32 and then her voice is different 1:50 one year later. Maybe give 1989 a listen 1:15

That is what cocaine does. It ruins your throat and scars your vocal chords. It is so sad to have this happen to Whitney who has been raised to be a God-fearing person. See fame has really a dark side and I wish there would be like support groups for these celebrities. We lose so many talented musicians because of substance abuse. They initially get introduced to it as a way with dealing with the very hectic schedule they have. Moving from one city to another to do a tour, lacking sleep, constantly being chased by pesky tabloid paparazzi, being isolated all adds insult to the injury. On top of that their management and labels cheat them of their finances. Then because of the abuse they take their own personal life spins out of control then their career dies with it. Which is really sad considering how much these people contribute. I wish something would be done about this or we will just lose more talented musicians. Elvis, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, the list is really adding up

That 2004 clip sounds healthy to me. Wonder if she was in a bit of a good period? It's sad in the last clip that she says she "got to run". It seems like she could have stopped having to run many years prior. What's the point of success if you're still on the treadmill after all those years?

You can hear gradual change in her even from the late 80s, but its not alarming or unnatural sounding until we get to 2002 when something is clearly very wrong (illness?) and 2005 sounds quite concerning too. She looked and sounded pretty sweet again in 2007/8. 2010, deeply unhealthy again. Very tragic for what was one of the greatest human instruments of all time. The pressure of fame can be a very punishing thing and pushes so many people into various forms of addiction. Whitney is not the first and will not be the last great person we lose this way. But she is undeniably one of the greatest losses. R.I.P 💔

1997, 2001/2002. Not so bad in the last two or three, though I think third from the last was a bit hoarse. this always makes me sad, hearing the change in her voice, and in her resonance, since cocaine messes up your septum (cartilage between the nostrils). So, so sad.
