Well Belmo wants us to go with him in his next journey for this ball. This ball could be in my bag soon after the urethane ban from the PBA. As for the Fate, I didn't look like it would fit as a league ball, but a tour ball. That was my reason why I didn't get it. Nice review Luke!

Yeah the lane level look? It's just a YT thing, people want to see people for some reason, that's why everybody's thumbnail has them making wild faces now, and viewers predominantly want to see the bowler in the video rather than just the ball rolling down the lane. I like the lane level look too, but I end up having to film twice for every ball at that point and it just gets oppressive to try to work it all in there. I'm with you, I prefer the lane level look myself, but the vast majority of people don't I guess.

@@decadude8968 Yeah I mean when I watch a bowling ball review . . I want to see the ball, I want to see how it rolls, I don't need to see the bowling alley or the person throwing it, just want to see what the ball does. I don't get it, but it's just a visual interest thing I guess. People lose interest fast just watching a ball roll, they want to see the full approach and reactions from the bowler for whatever reason.

Hey Luke! Been a little while. When I see the Journey go down the lane, I see part Fate and part HyRoad. It is like this ball bridges the gap between those two balls. Have to admit I was surprised this was another pearl since the Fate was a pearl. I figured this release would have been a hybrid since the Trend 2 was discontinued after only being out for a short time.
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 8 ай бұрын
Yo! Yeah I can feel the familiarity from the core, so it feels Fate-ish for 30 solid feet, and it takes throwing the two I think, but the Fate IS the earlier ball. The Journey and Hyroad shape a little differently, but yeah I can see what you're getting at. I also don't know the reasoning behind pearl after pearl after pearl, but Belmo has historically liked cleaner balls, Hyroad and Hyroad Pearl are a couple of his favorites so I'm not surprised that everything he's put out there is medium RG and cleaner or a different take on reactive urethane in the Pro Motion.

@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 8 ай бұрын
Yeah the Fate is really weird, but it's great as a pocket control ball that you can play with when there's enough friction. There isn't going to be a Magic Gem video because I didn't get it until 2 days before it released, and I was out of town that weekend, so it was going to be a couple weeks after release date before I could get a video out, so they're just going to be giveaway items in our fundraiser next month. If the company can't be bothered to get me stuff in a decent time frame, I'm not going to scramble to get stuff done, especially for a ball that doesn't seem like people are that interested in, and something neither Angel or I will be able to throw after the video anyway. People are already onto the Journey and IQ 78 now anyway. Hopefully this way the balls will end up in the hands of people who can actually use them.

Zen is quite a bit earlier, rolls more strongly, the Journey is about the same strength, it's just longer and covers a lot more boards down lane. Zen is more naturally forward while the Journey is more directional, but leans more continuous.

There's not any overlap with the P2, it's the stronger ball by quite a bit, that's actually why I made the comment about the Phaze/G I have being an arrow weaker than the P2 despite having the same cover formula. The P5 has R2S Pearl which is quite a bit weaker than TX-16, but the Journey has a slightly weaker core. Journey is a little longer, but hooks 2-3 boards more overall.

It's hard to say because age factors in. The HP core is definitely stronger, but the Journey cover is stronger. If both balls were brand new, the Journey would be a step down, but the HP has likely lost a step or two over the years, and fresh out of the box, plus if you're on a drier shot, the Journey will be the stronger or at least faster ball.

Really interested to see how this compares to the Zen GL. Feels like it's less traction and less response overall
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 8 ай бұрын
It's definitely less response, the ZGL rolls earlier definitely, and while the cover is technically stronger on paper, traction between the two is fairly similar. The ZGL settles quite a bit from out of the box, so it may have the traction edge by a board or two, but again, definitely rolls earlier and is sharper than the Journey.

You'd think so, but it's impressing me less and less the more I throw it. It's become extremely conditional. It's the absolute nut when it's the look, it's just not the look very often. The problem is that it looks the best with surface on it, but it doesn't hold surface longer than a game, and with as weak as the cover is, it gets very long and weak, and with me being the only person on my side of the lane, I'm not getting any transition as the ball is shining up, so if pointing it off the corner is the look, this is the best ball out there, if I have to give the pocket away at all, there's no reason to throw it because I'll only be able to be in it for a game or so.

I'm having a problem pulling the trigger so I'd like some help. I have about 550 rev rate, 5-8 degrees of tilt, and can throw it 17-21 off of my hand. I love the shape of the Summit, it's awesome but sometimes it's too much ball and it doesn't want to clear the fronts enough. I want to drill another P2, but I don't usually match up with them so I was going to go with an Xponent. That ball looks great. I am drilling a journey because I need a pearl that has more traction and shape than a ZGL, but I am unsure if the xponent and journey will overlap. I would separate them with cover and layout, but I'm not sure if it is enough. Xponent: 70 x 4.50 x 35 (light 2k finish) Journey: 70 x 5 x 35 (4k finish) I really only bowl on sport patterns. (Mainly PBA)
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 8 ай бұрын
The XP is a huge step down from the Summit, if you keep surface on it, it might help, but it shines and gets wiggly REALLY fast. The Journey would be a good step down, but so would the TNT Infused actually. I should have that review up later today so you might wait a minute and check that one out too. I think you've got the rev rate for the Journey though, and it shapes like the Summit, so that would work there, it's just a lot cleaner through the fronts, doesn't roll nearly as early. The Infused rolls as strong and early, it's just got a lot cleaner cover. The Journey and XP shouldn't overlap much if at all, the XP is earlier rolling and smoother, and the cover is virtually R2S solid, which is a big step down from the Journey cover. The ZGL cover is basically ReX and is TECHNICALLY stronger than the Journey, but you'll see a more dynamic look out of the Journey, it's more visible hook. My ZGL has settled down quite a bit too vs when I got it, I imagine the same thing has happened with you.
@roscoepretlowiv7959
@roscoepretlowiv7959 8 ай бұрын
@@LukeRosdahl Yeah, the Zen core just gets pretty forward. The ZGLs cover just feels like it doesn't pick up in the mids even though the core is trying to spin up. I want a step down from the summit that is still round/smooth like a solid ball. I know there is a big enough gap between the TNT and the Phaze 2 to have them in the same bag, but is there a big enough gap between the Summit and the Phaze 2 to have the both of them? Pearls, for me, tend to get offline quickly even with stronger covers and surface. Which is why I'm going to go with a weaker pin on the journey so that I can throw it to the right and watch it come off of it when my Virtual Energy Blackout wants to lock up and the Absolute isn't gaining traction early enough
@LukeRosdahl
@LukeRosdahl 8 ай бұрын
Makes sense. I think there's a fairly decent gap between the P2 and the Summit, but the P2 shapes more so sometimes it feels like they're closer than they are. The P2 doesn't read the mids like the Summit does to me tho, and the Tour Dynam-X cover is really weak, so it wouldn't fit either. The TNT is too strong for where it's supposed to fit, so there's kind of a gap right there now.

I’m struggling with where I should go. I’m a two handed bowler, building my storm/roto/900 league arsenal. I have a phaze 2 and hyroad OG. I want to address the gap between these two. First time using this combo in league, shot a game one 269 with the phaze 2. Game 2 and 3, not so good. Instead of chasing the transition with the phaze 2, I decided to pull out the hyroad. That didn’t work so well. I had to move back right vs standing in the same location with the hyroad. The journey seems to be a good ball however, the gold label is where I would like to go or maybe a fate. Any thoughts.

The DNA is a pretty continuous ball, so I'm thinking that's either a layout thing or you're just using it on conditions that are too dry, because that would be the perfect stronger ball up from the Blackout. The Absolute is also a step down from the Summit. Stuff gets mixed up based on the design intent, but yeah their price points need work. The IQ Tour Solid and Electrify Solid were virtually the same ball but one was 50 bucks cheaper than the other one. This is exactly what I meant when I said something about people passing on the Fate because of the price tag. Maybe bump the price up a little because of the concept, but a 7 year old forgotten coverstock formula on a modified Booster core from the Rocket series, slap a Belmo logo on there and make it top dollar . . that's a rough sell, so you're not wrong.
