I have lost 50lbs in 4 months by eating fat loaded food, zero exercise trying to reverse pre diabetes. Having watched this video which makes sense to me, I will follow the advice provided here, because it makes sense. I am attending a conference in London next weekend where Dr Ken Berry / Dr Andrew Chaffee / Dr David Unwin / Prof Benjamin Bikman are speakers. Some of these promote a high fat diet. Lets hope the confusion surrounding the best natural diet we all find on the internet is discussed and agreed upon.

Fabulous interview! When I was 24, in 1972, I read the article in Vogue Magazine about Dr Atkins, bought his book......the part I missed was the (for me) very addictive nature of carbs. It's been a struggle all these years - Thank you all for your wisdom and good sense!

Do it gradually, slowly remove a carb week by week otherwise you might get the keto flu where your body is forced to adapt rapidly and you'll feel awful until your body fully adapts. If you do it slowly, you won't feel that side affect and you'll find cravings for the goods you let go vanish alot easier

I did dr westman adapt your life under 20 total carbs for 2 months, first 2 weeks rough, the next 6 weeks still felt miserable. Then had a little white rice, the sun shone, a spring in my step. Then i thought go harder. So carnivore+ green onion and a pickle (no rice) so maybe 2 gram carbs then another solid month of misery. Now i cook a 1/4 cup of white rice to add to 3 carnivore meals and now i feel good! I will reduce that rice over time until and unless i feel miserable, and i will stay at the step before. So i am 85% carnivore calorie wise. Perhaps the glycogen production/ uptake is broke. 30+ years of intractable chronic fatigue syndrome, unable to work for decades. I hope im doing the best i can to get better. Better late then never. Thank you.

@edithatwood7814 so why does my rice work for me? It's only 10g of carbs a meal. Today I think I heard the answer. It is enough of a glucose hit to drive potassium and the electrolytes where it needs to go. Um look up shawn baker and a video with sally k norton dated 4 years ago maybe watch the whole thing if you don't know about oxolates, otherwise watch the last half. She talks about the carbs electrolyte i think that is why my rice works whereas 20g westman diet didn't feel good, nor did near zero, and zero. Carnivore base is everything to nourish!

I do exercise about 6-8 hrs a week, mostly cycling, some jogging and a bit strength. I lost 8kg (9%) bodyweight within 2 month doing 16/8 on reduced carb. Going lower than 100g carbs I just don't feel energetic enough, and honestly, I don't want to only eat meat, fish and eggs. There is a lot of other great enjoyable food. Its only about moderating the more problematic stuff (bread pasta etc) but not avoiding it alltogether.

Westman doesn't make you just eat those. You can eat lower glycaemic veggies and quite a few dairy products as well as sea foods. This is usually where people make mistakes by only eating those 3 things. Secondly not everyone can't get away with no carbs. These doctors are treating people who are typically in their 30s - 80s who are type 2 diabetic and struggle to exercise due to other medical conditions caused by diabetes. You want maybe Dr. Paul Mason or Dr. Tim Nokes who talk keto in terms of athletes and those who do exercise. Westman has said in countless other interviews that he works with each patient to individualise what will work for them and within their means (what they physically can do and what they physically can afford.)

I need some help. I've been on carnivore for a little over a year now. Around 10 years ago i started having some small palpitations when i would lay down. I seen a cardiologist back then, I had an echo done. Dr said that there is nothing wrong with my heart structurally. He said that it was nothing to worry about at all. Fast forward to now, they are much worse now. I eat 3-4 double yolk eggs with cheese for breakfast and my last meal is usually a 1lb fatty ribeye. I use LMNT and have even tried drinking 3-4 packages per day and raised my Redmond real salt intake. I also started to take an extra 500mg of potassium, 1,200mg of magnesium (magnesium oxide which causes very loose stools at times.) per day. I have noticed that at times when I'm having a lot of palpitations, I can eat a decent amount of Redmond salt and they seem to not be as hard hitting. I used to drink a little over 1 gallon of water every day and have tried to cut back on that high amount of water thinking that I'm flushing out too many electrolytes. I just had some labs done and i asked the dr what my electrolyte levels were because I haven't received my copy yet. She said that the only thing that was low is my sodium. It is 1 point below. Whatever that means. I'm also a little low on vitamin d. Could it be possible that my body needs more than 5k-6k mg of salt per day, or could low vitamin d cause palpitations? I'm scheduled for a 7 day event monitor, but it's a little over a month away. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

One of the carnivore specialist (forgot name....maybe Dr Kiltz blog but not sure) mentioned that sodium needs could be from 5-12 at the beginning and being reduced to 5 eventually. Not sure how long the 'beginning' is as you mention you are on it for a year or longer and doing all I would do myself.

Hearing Dr. Westman talking about Dr. Atkins, reminded me that the first time when l, as an adult, weighed under 60 kg, was in the early 70's. I lived in England and began following a diet (read about it in The Sunday Times l seem to remember) where you eat an equal amount of bacon rashers and eggs, didn't matter how many. I can't recall what else the diet recommended, but no bread or potatoes anyway. Only the second time l have achieved the same is this year! I am really enjoying wearing some of the clothes I made then 50 or so years ago. My son, who admittedly has spoken about keto/carnivore for a few years by now, sent in November an interview with Dr. Thomas Seyfrield. A young friend was awaiting for - as it turned out - her last experimental cancer treatment. She was again hopeful that THEY were going to prolong her life. She loved her sweet treats, and wanted to keep enjoying that little bit of her life. Without medical advice and support it was too difficult for her. She lived in Germany, the country of Dr. Warburg... I asked one oncologist if they ever gave dietary advice to patients. He didn't understand why I was asking. I gave him a list of names of doctors from the carnivore community. It is so difficult not to shout from the rooftops. Thank you, all, including who write comments. You are inspiring!

I had a track coach that said if people got that because they eat too much and don’t exercise enough simple solution he said I’m not a doctor or anything he said, but my simple solution is you know start being active start eating the right foods well you should be losing some weightthe problem is we have food addictions and we don’t eat when we’re hungry. We like to eat and all this healthy food.

Dr Westman tends to speak in a condescending manner that I don't enjoy. I subscribed to him for a while but eventually unsubscribed. He had Dr Jason Fung on and the way he talked about Dr Fung was over the line. He sneers with a chuckle, the way he discussed Dr Fung's books was off-putting. I don't understand why he employs this affect. It could be that he genuinely believes he is that much smarter and better than everyone else. Dr Fung's books have been life-changing for millions of people. Unrelated, I'm still a little confused as to why Jack is on the podcast/video. Why not just have Dr Ovadia do the introductions to his own videos? Does Jack have a specific background in this area, I have not been able to find that he does. If you enjoy his presence then that's fine but am a little confused as to why he is there.

@theskyehiker
@theskyehiker 22 күн бұрын
I just listened to the part of the lecture you (I am assuming) are referring to and I don’t see where the confusion is coming from. Dr Westman doesn’t focus on his patients checking their ketones because his goal is for them keep their carbs low enough to lose weight (if that is the goal). They may or may not be in ketosis but it doesn’t matter, as long as they are fixing their health concerns and losing weight. No one knows, in any given population, what ketone level is necessary to meet one’s goals. Keep the carbs as low as they need to be for YOU , and you should have success.
@fredsmit3481
@fredsmit3481 22 күн бұрын
@@theskyehiker Exactly. I agree with you 100%. The problem is that Westman calls his diet "keto". I think his diet is a healthy diet and have no problem with it. If he does not care if his patients are in ketosis or not, he should just call his diet "low carb" in order to not be misleading. As you said, everyone is different and not everyone enters ketosis on a particular low carb diet. However, if someone is in ketosis then they are on a keto diet no matter what they eat.
