My CYA is high and my chlorine level is low a lot. Free chlorine today was 0. My PH was high. Thanks for the tip about not just adding 1 gallon of liquid chlorine, obviously I need to keep more in there because of my high CYA. And I can't use the tablets because of that already high CYA.

Great video - what would you recommend when the stabilizer is high and the chlorine (free and total) are way to low?
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 4 жыл бұрын
I would recommend you doing a partial drain and fill of your pool first to get the stabilizer to around 30ppm. Once you have done that shock your pool with roughly 2 gallons of liquid chlorine and balance your total alkalinity and ph. When your free chlorine is zeroed out you will always need shock the pool.

Im having the same issue as listed here. My CYA is to high and my chlorine is low. So right now I have green algea. So for 13000 gallon above ground pool. How much liquid chlorine do you recommend? Also im worried about bleaching or fading my liner. I just replaced the liner, because of over shocking in the past. Thanks in advance.
@ClearlySeen

I would go with one 2 1/2 gallon jug if they sell those at your pool store if not Just get 2 gallons add it at nighttime run the filter 24/7. If there’s no change the next day then go with at least 3 gallons also it’s best to brush the pool down right before you put it in and clean your filter daily. When the algae is killed then I would replace water by draining 1 to 2 feet of water and refilling it and on the next day testing the CYA again.

I'm just opening my pool for the season. Never had a pool before. Had it professionally opened and initial shock from a pool company. But can't get free chlorine up at all. I already have several tablets in the feeder. Am I able to combine liquid chlorine directly into the pool as well?
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and I would recommend getting liquid chlorine in the pool as soon as possible and anytime the free chlorine goes down to zero.With that being said I would check your stabilizer level to make sure it’s at least at 30-50ppm and never lower. I would recommend that your pool is running 8-10 hours daily. Add roughly about 3 gallons of liquid to your pool if it’s 20,000 and up and retest the free chlorine tomorrow. Make sure you have tablets in the feeder weekly as well. If there is any algae you will need to use liquid chlorine for a few days at least to kill it off.

I’m beside myself as have not even gotten in yet. I did pick up some ph up but tired this first to still not showing to now all off again. Have ran 24/7 all summer? Should I add ph up ? Vacuum up fiber stuff with a sock? I don’t know to worse yet this year and just became clearest over last week? Thanks hope you see.
@ClearlySeen

I would recommend you to kill the algae first with liquid chlorine. I would need to know the gallonage of your pool before I can give you an exact amount to add. Just remember when you see live algae after shocking it just means most of the time that you didn’t add enough. With the ph I would check raise it ph up if your total alkalinity is good if your total alkalinity is low then use baking soda.

Pretty much any thing inside your pool when it comes to yard debris organic debris will lower the chlorine levels. You’re gonna want to vacuum out your pool net it and then if the chlorine has zero free chlorine you’re gonna want to shock the pool with liquid or granular chlorine making sure your chemistry is in line.

@@ClearlySeen Am trying to shock it tonight as the sun goes down. Is 8 hour run of filters long enough? My algae appears to be getting better. How I don't know. Water is not green, just residue on lining I brush up in the morning for it to be picked up by water filtering. Filters have been changed about every 3 days, no more than 1 week. Have been dealing with this for about 6 weeks. I now realize from watching videos the problem that Leslie pool or my experienced weekly pool guy missed. Chlorine demand. Whenever you shock your pool use much more than you normally would because that’s the main issue that you’re dealing with and do not let the pump turn off for a day or two when it turns off there’s no filtration and no circulation of the chemicals and that enables algae to bounce right back

My readings show PH as high (8.4), chlorine as low (0), alkalinity as high (240) & stabilizer as ideal (30-50). I have shocked the pool twice this past week and my water is clear, I have dumped about a gallon of liquid chlorine as well but chlorine stays low. Is the PH and alkalinity being too high effecting my chlorine level? What can I do in this situation?
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 3 жыл бұрын
You’re going to need to bring your pH down to about 7.6 and your alkalinity you do not want higher than 120. I like the alkalinity to be around 90 in my clients pools. When the pH gets above 8.0 the chlorine cannot do its job properly. By simply lowering the pH and the total alkalinity down with muriatic acid or a granular acid and then re-shocking you should be able to maintain a good chlorine level. If this is not a salt pool you’re gonna wanna make sure to have chlorine tablets in the chlorinator or floater as well.

How do you measure the two different chlorine types you mentioned? My strips only have a measurement for free chlorine and it has been at zero for a long time. Recently I was told the conditioner level is too low and so it was raised to about 70-80 because I was told that it would hold the chlorine better. Then since the ph was off the chart high,I was told to add 100 oz of 15 percent muriatic acid, which is what I had.Ok so that brought down the alkalinity and ph level to a good range and so then I was told to add chlorine,40 oz. I added it and nothing happened. By the way,I just read that the chlorine should be added at night.Is this true or at what time of day is it safe to add it,cuz the sun doesnt go down til 8pm right now. Must it be dark? I have been adding no more then 32 oz of muriatic acid at once and waiting 4 hrs before adding more. Do I need to only add a small amount of liquid chlorine (10 percent) before adding more and if so how many oz. at once? Lastly I have a salt cell which seems useless and wont make chlorine. Any advice. Thanks for your help

@ClearlySeen 3 жыл бұрын
It’s best to add when the sun is down because the UV rays is what burns up chlorine. Make sure your pump is running around the clock and does not shut off if it has been shutting off that’s what’s going on. Also I would recommend adding another jug the whole thing and making sure to stay out of the pool until you can maintain a good chlorine level. What kind of testing kits or strips are you using?

Also I would recommend two Gallons I was thinking you were using the jugs that have 2 gallons. Typically when your pool is 10,000 gallons you only need 1 gallon to shock the pool in this case you’re having troubles keeping a chlorine level so I’m gonna recommend 2 gallons at one time.

Sometimes even saw Pools will need shocking that’s going to depend on factors like swimmers rain, etc. the best way to go about it is to have some chlorine shock on you and add that whenever you see it go below one part per million. But it’s actually normal for it to happen from time to time keeping your stabilizer at 60 is good for salt pools. I would make sure that your pool is running 8-10 hours daily.

I would check and adjust the pool stabilizer first. Then I would add 1 gallon of liquid chlorine a day for two days then recheck the free chlorine. Make sure to run your filter nonstop until the pool is clear and clean the filter daily. If the stabilizer is low the chlorine will be burned up quickly from the sun. Also make sure to have chlorine tablets in a chlorinator or floater. Do not swim until the chlorine has lowered down to 1-3ppm once it’s cleared up.

Do you know what your stabilizer levels are in your pool?
@Xaiidyn
@Xaiidyn 2 жыл бұрын
Opening pool, all ph, stabilizer etc levels are good, chlorine levels were low, around 2ppm, so I added 3 gal of liquid chlorine (24,000 gallon pool) Pool is a cloudy blue greenish color at the moment, more on the blue side now lol (had an algae problem). Any recommendations ?

I would add another 4-5 gallons all at one time to shock the pool. If you under shock a pool it will continue to go green

I added your recommended amount , pool is looking more lively! Got a high free chlorine reading and it’s a nice cloudy blue at the moment. I am currently cleaning the filter cartridges as they’ve been filtering out the algae and tomorrow should I add this clarifier I have on hand? It was what was recommended to me by the pool shop. They told me to add enough for my size pool of Leslie’s clear aid

@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen Жыл бұрын
Two things that are going against you the low pH, the low total alkalinity, and the low Cyanuric acid. The first thing that I would do in that pool is get the cyanuric acid/stabilizer to at least 30ppm. Then I would use baking soda to raise the total alkalinity and ph. Once your cyanuric is good shock it with liquid chlorine and add chlorine tablets to the chlorinator.

Stabilizer is going to keep the chlorine from burning off I would recommend 1lb but your going to need a test strip that checks for it so you don’t get it to high or low. If stabilizer was never added to your pool then 100% is going to be the reason for your pool not able to keep a free chlorine reading. Just remember to regularly clean your filter and make sure that motor stays on 24/7. If the pool ever gets cloudy use liquid chlorine and make sure a tablet is floating at all times.

@ClearlySeen

Stabilizer also known as cyanuric acid helps keep the chlorine from being burned off by the sun’s UV rays. Without it present in the pool water you will not be able to maintain a good chlorine level.

When i went to a pool supply place a stabilizer was never mentioned. Algae,Shock,Alkalyne,Ph products and thats about it. Since were having a shortage the normal products i use to get from Walmart either non existent or double because i guess inflation. So now im using pool chemicals i never used from a pool supply store. Im sure they’re the same things but im just not use to them. My water will not chlorinate. My alkaline is at 180 and PH is just below the recommended 7.2. I say my Alk is 180 because of the color strip. My chlorines is at the faint color right before the 2.0. Im struggling. You’re going to need to bring the pH and Alkalinity levels down by using acid you need to make sure that you have pool stabilizer in it if you do not have stabilizer the chlorine will be burned up in one day. Get your stabilizer level to 50ppm and restock the pool once that is completed. Step 1 : lower ph and alkalinity with ph down Step 2 : get your pool stabilizer to 50ppm Step 3 : reshock the pool and keep a chlorine tablet in the floater. Hope that helps

Hey I’m a beginner in pools I got a small Intex Pool it’s 15x42 inches. I just got some test strips and the free chlorine is saying it’s at 0 I use one 3 inch puck of chlorine tablet and think that’s not enough it’s becoming a bit cloudy and a little bit of slimyness on the bottom of the pool which I think algae is growing. I’ve had the pool for about 2.5 weeks put new filter and I scrubbed it all today and added a whole 121 ounces of liquid bleach should that help? I also have pool shock should I put that in too I’ve only done a little bit of pool shock a week ago and backing soda because the alkalinity was low but now I’m having the cloudy/algae problem can you please help me on what next steps I should do thank you!
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 4 жыл бұрын
Sure, I will be glad to help you. I recommend using liquid chlorine from the pool store over bleach do to the strength of the chlorine. I would recommend putting in a gallon of liquid chlorine from the pool store and then brush the live algae so it’s stirred up so it will kill it faster. I would try that for a couple of days to see how that works. I recommend with that type of pool to upgrade to a sand filter with a larger motor if you have the standard motor with the small cartridge filter. I would stay away from any chemicals like phosphate removers because with the kind of pool you have that will clog the filter pretty fast. I would stay out of the pool for a few days during the process of killing the algae and remember when it’s slimy there isn’t enough sanitizer. Try to maintain a 3ppm level of chlorine and remember when it’s zeroed out it will require shocking. If the algae doesn’t die from the gallon add another one and make sure the pump is running around the clock.

Clearly Seen thanks so will actual pool chlorine it should clear the water up? The algae was barely growing. Also when the chlorine is zeroed out by shocking do you mean shocking it with raising the free chlorine levels above normal or dust pool shock?
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 4 жыл бұрын
Anytime your pool is cloudy I would use the pool store liquid chlorine that will help it clear up. When the free chlorine ever drops down below 1ppm normally you will need to use the liquid chlorine to shock the water. Chlorine tablets help maintain the chlorine levels, and liquid chlorine aka: shock is needed to achieve a chlorine level. Hope that helps
