Using a full kanban system requires a high degree of structure and formal processes. This is great when you are in a large organization with lots of moving parts and many people communicating to get products out the door.
But that same structure can be a barrier to putting any form of kanban system in place if you don't have a need or ability to support that level of structure.
Low-key kanban is an approach to adjusting the principles of kanban to fit your specific needs. It is most applicable for small companies or sole proprietors who have a lot going on and might otherwise not even attempt it at all.
Keep in mind that low-key kanban is an interim step, and that you should recognize you are cutting corners. Make every attempt to migrate to a formal kanban system as soon as you can.
