1. LEDs can harm your eyes if you look directly into them for long periods of time, but that’s what shrouds and caps are for on landscape lights. These deflect glare so it will not go directly into your eyes. On good installs, you should not see the light source at all, only the effect. Also, LEDs in landscape lighting are not usually bright enough to harm you because they’re used mostly for dramatic effect and ambience, both of which do not require that much brightness. 2. LEDs are many times more efficient than halogen bulbs, so they pay for themselves over time. Not to mention LEDs usually last 10 times as long as a standard halogen. A little more upfront pays for much more efficiency and a much longer life. 3. LEDs do not get nearly as hot as halogens, they just need to be kept at a lower temperature. LEDs are semiconductors, just like the CPU in your computer. Semiconductors can be damaged by excess heat, so keeping them cool prolongs life. Think about it. If your computer overheats, it will not work properly anymore. That’s why there’s likely one or two fans in the computer and a heat sink which moves heat away from the CPU. Just like in a computer, the fans in your example are used to cool the LED just so that it does not get damaged, not because LEDs are hot.
