Great video, thanks for posting. Better quality always comes at a price but longevity saves money in the end. My first experience with landscape lighting came from Lowe's Portfolio line - 50% failure rate, even after silicon caulking the threaded covers to keep water out. Like most anything in life, cheaper quality will eventually cost you time and money.

gotta say I love the adjustable hoods on these. My company uses mostly WAC and Lumien (good but pricey, although the tree-mount lumiens are surprisingly affordable). We have to get specific length hoods for our accents.

@Lumpygrits76

My main question is about up lights tree mounts for young trees that that doesn’t require drilling through the trunk. Wanting the light to ride up the trunk without damaging it but not choking it out as it grows.

Adam, I have the Top Dog Volt spotlights, and they have been a great recommendation by you. I also got Volt pathway lights since their products have turned out to be so good. I have a question for you - can the programmable LED color bulbs from MiLight be used in the Top Dog spotlights? They are M16 bulbs so they should fit find, but I thought I'd ask before I go and buy a bunch of them. Thanks.

Been watching your videos 👍🏻 thanks for all the helpful information man! Just a quick question, for the top dog volt lighting, can I just purchase any light bulbs from home depot or costco? or does it have to be from the Volt lighting brand
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 3 жыл бұрын
You can purchase any bulb, it does not have to be through volt. They take an mr16 bulb.
@eskewj

Hi Adam, thanks for this, very helpful. The Top Dog option on Volt’s website only has a 4’ lead wire with no option for anything longer, unlike their other lights. This means that if you have two lights near each other (but farther than 8’) then you’ve got to make another connection entirely and I’ve actually been trying to optimize my design for fewer connections to simplify troubleshooting. I’m not sure if this is a recent change. To me that’s a big downside though.
@galfert
@galfert Жыл бұрын
That is not a downside at all. The main wire should snake by each fixture location for daisy chaining. No hubs used this way. Limit each main run to 7 or less fixtures. Use 12/2 gauge as a main wire.

How do like Volt's All Star Spot lights? I believe the only difference between All Star and Top Dog is All Star doesn't have teeth at the knuckle. Wondering if this is a great feature for modifying tilt? Top Dog is a tad smaller than All Star. Top Dog has the "dome" lens bit All Star is flat. In the video you said that wasn't a big deal. Really helpful video. Thanks!
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I do like the All Star Spot light. I agree, the tilting ability on the All Star is really nice, the teeth sometimes stinks because you might want to tilt in-between teeth - it has happened to me a few times. One really notable difference with the All Star is how much heavier it is. That light weighs like 4lbs! Normally lights weigh like 1lbs. (I'm probably off on my numbers, but I hope you get the point). I guess the reason I prefer the Top Dog vs All Star is 1. I like the way it looks better. 2. I love how much the guard extends. 3. It's a bit cheaper.

I made the mistake of buying the fatboys!! Any slight movement the lamp looses contact with the pins. I bought some Costco pathway lamps and was satisfied with the quality. I should of just bought two Costco sets rather than fatboys.

Thank for your video! As usual interesting!! Do you prefer 3000K bulbs for plants lighting up or for everything?
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I almost always prefer 3000k, but that's just my preference. I've used 2700k on plants, and it works really well because it creates a more mood light on the plants.
@mrmanatee
@mrmanatee 2 жыл бұрын
it depends on the plant! I recently did row of cypress (can't remember the exact variety) that have a slight blueish tinge. We used 4000K to bring out that aspect and provide contrast with the the stuff around it. 3000K is a good default, but it's worth going a little red or blue sometimes depending on the tone of the plant and the use of contrast in the overall landscape

Have you used the ring transformer with these volt lights? If so, what's your take on the pairing?
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 2 жыл бұрын
You can use the ring light transformer with Volt lights. I don't like the look of the ring lights, and it's nice the transformer is compatible with any lights. Just install a motion sensor separately so they lights come on like the ring lights would.

It says "submitting" for a few seconds and then just takes me to a page asking me to pay $7.95 for a course. Is this bait/click? I've checked my email over and over and nothing is being sent their either. sigh

Hey Dennis, I just emailed you the link to the free PDF. The PDF more than likely ended up in your promotions tab. As I mentioned in the email, the $7.95 is additional information for those who need it. I also have a design PDF and an installation course for those who need more help in those areas. Thanks for reaching out! Let me know if you need anything else.
