Full production details about this install would be really interesting, avg house usage + solar & storage = runtime would help others decide if they want to take the dive. Great video btw! Agree abt the DC bonding, We bond anything DC to it's own earth bar seperate from anything else in telecoms.

Jolly good indeed, excellent stuff. Re DC, I served my 6 year apprenticeship mainly working with DC, Steel Works, 500 V & 250 V. Running DC motors up to 1500 HP, when the breakers tripped on overload, then you would see a “proper arc” so good to see Cory & Co again. Wishing you all every success. PS has Jordan started a female electrician yet ?

Amazing content. Fun, educational and the production quality is high as well. Regarding the Ethernet over power adapters, I don't trust them. My dad had a pair, which was used for getting internet from his flat to his basement workshop, and it often required a restart (at least once a month). Then I wanted to install a pair at my mom's house, but as soon as she switched on the LED strips in the living room, the connection dropped (the LED power supply was generating so much interference on the line, that the adapters couldn't communicate). In both cases we ended up pulling in an ethernet cable.

The discussion about shading for the series string is incorrect for any modern solar panel array. They have at least three bypass diodes in each panel, preventing the entire string from being affected by shading of a single panel. The only real benefit of optimisers is where the panels are used on different elevations or just for monitoring of the panels, but as a by-product you lose anywhere between 1 and 10% efficiency of each panel due to the conversion losses in the optimiser.

Nice touch with grinding out the roof tiles to accommodate the saddles. I wish installers would use trunking more often. But I have 2 different branded AFDD modules that I have tried to trip in various ways including a pre manufactured flex that has split and does throw some great fire starting sparks out when you wiggle it around. But only triggers when I attach a bog standard RCBO. Does not trigger the combined. Devices at all? Do you install and rely on manufacturers weight in the industry to back you up when the place burns down? Don't know if I trust the devices right now.

Great video as every Cory ! Solar definitely seems the way to go. Is there a cutover switch in place between battery and the grid so in the event of battery depletion the grid kicks in ? Assuming it goes solar through inverter to battery back through inverter to DB? But how does it differentiate between that and grid ... and in installs where you can give back to the grid how does that work ? All interesting stuff !
@corymac
@corymac Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! It’s all done automatically with the solar edge software!
@enemyofthestatewearein7945
@enemyofthestatewearein7945 Жыл бұрын
The inverter AC is wired in parallel with the mains just like a load, and the battery is wired to separate terminals on the the inverter. IDK about solar edge specifically but normally there is a CT on the meter to detect the export current and the inverter clocks off the grid and leads or lags to control the power flow in either direction. If there is a power cut the inverter shuts down to stop it exporting and electrocuting any linesman down the road! You can also get inverters with a second backup/UPS port that can run a separate DB off the battery with or without grid. HTH.

I've done a similar install on my house in May this year (Cory made it look easy, especially the roof work!), and the inverter temp was fine over the summer, in fact anecdotally I think the solar panels shield the sun from the roof, so it may keep a loft cooler. Also in very hot weather the efficiency of the panels drop, so not as much power is produced on a hot albiet sunny day.
