In this video I test a Vevor 25GPM 0.5Hp Submersible Well Pump in our test tank. I monitor Gallon per minute (flow rate), maximum head pressure (psi), and Electrical Amp draw under load. With testing a pump in this manor, I can determine its maximum depth capabilities as well as its corresponding flow rate while under pressure. The same way it would perform in a residential Water Well Pump System.

Thank you for doing what you do my man. I’m a driver for a well pump and water treatment supply warehouse. Over the last couple weeks I’ve been inspired to find out exactly what the stuff I’m delivering does and how it all comes together to make a well system, and you’re consistently putting out videos about everything I need to know. You’re inspiring me to go back to school and get my plumbing license. Thank you again

I was worried if this pump would work in one of my wells. Your video demonstrated the it should work fine at 40’ depth. I bought it, I dropped it down about 3 days ago and it works great. Your video saved me a lot money and had my well been deeper I would have passed on this pump. I have watched every one of H20 Mechanics videos, most of them more than once which means now I know just enough to be dangerous!

@foox2k Died within a month, most likely due to not being protected from the shock of starting and too much power for the flow rate. Do more homework than i did, and you may be okay. Paid a well service later (big $$) to replace with a high end pump. My well is 440 feet deep, so ymmv

I have a 2.5" 1/2 HP pump that has the same or very similar check valve, I haven't even tried it, just bought a good brass check valve and put it on. If I remember correctly even my Grundfos pump recommended using one External check valve for added safety. Mine produces practically the same pressure as that, but being 2.5" the flow is somewhat lower. I bought the 2.5" one because at that time I already had a 1 HP and 3" Grundfos and a 2 HP and 4" one from some Italian manufacturer that I can't remember right now installed in the well, I didn't want them touching the pipe (it's 8 inches internal diameter) or each other, so I chose the slimmer model available. In the end the 2HP produced much more flow than it needed and logically it also consumed more electricity, so I ended up removing it, originally it was supplying my grandpa's dairy farm but they retired in the early 90s. Now I have enough with the 1HP Grundfos to do some irrigation and the half HP to fill the cistern that supplies my home. I purchased the 0.5 HP pump because I installed a Cintropur NW500 filter housing with 10 micron filter element and with a lower flow rate it almost does not produce any pressure drop that would become an extra electricity expense. With the Grundfos it had 1.9 BAR of pressure drop with a brand new 10 micron filter element and almost 4 BAR when it got dirty... with the 0.5 HP even with a dirty filter element the pressure drop never reach 1 BAR. The filter housing came from factory with 50 or 60 micron filter elements and with those the 1HP Grundfos was fine, but I don't want any sand on the cistern because the output is about 2 cm over the bottom and it would be difficult to clean. As soon as the filter element gets superficially dirty the rest of the sand falls to the bottom of the bowl so I really only change the filter element every couple of months for hygiene reasons but it seems like it would take a year or more for it to clog... By the way the well is only 25 meters deep, the pumps are 20 meters from ground level and I have never seen the water level go lower than about 8 meters from ground level. Yesterday it was at 1.9 meters from ground level.

Thanks so much for this! I mentioned on your previous pump review, but I recently installed the 1/2 HP (but 110V) Vevor pump in my well. I just put a pressure gauge on mine after watching your previous video and I think I have better results than the 230V one somehow! The pump is at about 58' down but I still have 70 PSI at the top of the well when water flow is turned completely off.
@JonathanMotes
@JonathanMotes Жыл бұрын
@h2omechanic do you think it's possible that the pump has some sort of current regulator so it tries to increase power as water flow decreases? With my limited knowledge, I expected the current to fall more than it did when the output was limited. I wouldn't expect a cheap pump like this to have that kind of functionality, but it could explain why I still have 70 PSI at the top of my well.

So glad I found this video. I bought this pump to pump from a well to a storage tank about 100' above the well. Pump would be set 90' down the well. I doubted its capabilities to do what I need and decided to use it to pump from that storage tank up the hill to another tank where I will have enough elevation to use gravity to feed the house. This pump is capable of pumping from tank 1 to tank 2 about 100' farther up the hill. Your video proved without a doubt that 1) this pump would not work in the well and 2) it will work tank-to-tank. Thanks Brother!

It also confirmed it doesn't need an external control box and is basically a 2-wire pump. I bought it on Amazon and it said it is a 3-wire pump. Asked a question on Amazon - does it need a control box and is it 2 hots and a ground? - No answer. Now I know. 👍👍👍

I read, in "before you construct a water well" brochure from the Nova Scotia Government "Pumps that lift water by suction from depths of 7.6 m (25 ft) or less are called shallow well pumps. Pumps that lift water from greater depths are called deep well pumps. " deep just means atmospheric suction limits

Great explanation! Basically, this pump should only be used when pumping into a cistern/storage tank...just as the drawing shows. Then use a "jet pump" to pressurize a bladder tank. Maybe OK for a DIY but not cost effective when the customer has to pay labor rates

Wanted to make a few comments to your videos. 1) I think these videos are very helpful for many viewers since not everyone is an engineer. Kudos for spending the time and posting them. 2) The cheapest Lowe's pump in my area (CA, silicon valley, water is at a premium) at Lowe's was $498 + tax. 3) The description of the pumps gives a usable well depth, so the customer would be able to calculate if the pump was suitable by doing the math like you did in the video. Otherwise, I saw in the comments an 800 phone number and they customer service would be able to calculate and recommend a suitable pump (don't think the average sales clerk at Lowe's would be, my experience). 4) From my own experience with a 30m deep well on my parent's property since around 1960 I can tell that there frequently is a lot of sediment in the well which will grind up the pump and severely shorten it's lifespan. One pump actually locked up and overheated after only a few weeks so the fuse would trip. IIRC the current pump is 20 years old now but only used for watering the garden, otherwise they have city water (safe + sanitary) for the house and drinking.

This video should drive home the point to read the capabilities of whatever you are looking for to make sure it will do what you need. If those people that had problems had read the instructions or before buying the pump looked up the specifications they would have known that this is not the kind of pump they needed. I have multiple wells depths from 1000 feet on my ranch to 250 feet on others. I hired a well specialist like you to determine what was needed from the well drilling, casing pump, piping and all the other components to make it work as needed. Moral to the story is get an expert to do things like this that you don't know enough about. Maybe in China their wells are 50 feet deep and they consider that deep. Who knows? Very good information!

Thanks for this.. the review was fair and unbiased.... It's always tempting when reviewing a "cheap" pump to really bash it, but when factoring the value for the money, those wouldn't really be fair criticisms... The pump is what it is, a good value budget pump for those who are cash strapped up front... It may not be as efficient as some of the more expensive high end pumps, and it may be that you have to size up the HP to get the performance you need, which could end up costing you more in the long run, especially when service life is accounted for, but it will at least do what you need it to.... It's one of those cases of pay now or pay later.... but at the price, that pay later is going to take a LONG time to catch up with you..... For those of us stuck in the pay later category, It's a "quality" pump from a company that is honest about the performance, and seems to be paying attention to their customer feedback improved packaging over last years pump, now includes the start up capacitor as opposed to needing a control box, changed to a stainless outlet over the previous brass, etc. Will it last as long as a 1200 dollar Grundfos? almost certainly, no. Will it be as efficient?? absolutely not. But all things considered, this is a good value for the money, and going with it or a $1200 Grundfos really comes down to where your priorities lie.

*All* Chinese sellers (VEVOR is just an importer and seller, one big enough to get all products labeled with their brand but they don't make anything) call all kinds of submersible pumps "submersible deep well pump" and/or "submersible borehole pump" It's likely a translation problem, since most sellers (including VEVOR) won't know anything about installing deep well pumps, unless by chance they hire someone who has worked as a plumber as a translator ;-) If you contact customer support they may take a look to the user manual (because they know a lot of buyers never read them) or maybe google for some more information but never expect them to know how every product they sell actually works because they're selling literally thousands of unrelated products and nobody can have so much knowledge.

It's just that you need to find a pump that's specific to your situation. Sounds like this pump is a good for storage based systems for you. Do the pressurization after the storage of the water and seems like it works fine for that. But if you're going directly to a pressurized system, it looks like this pump is not good for that for deep well that is

Our local Community Hall has a drilled well with a static level of just twelve feet. This pump would definitely get the job done, and satisfy the pressure switch. However, that's something of a special case; my well at home has a static level of 110 feet, and it takes quite a bit of horsepower just to get the water to the surface. I still need an additional 60 psi to satisfy the pressure switch. Half a horsepower just can't do it.

How about a pressurised settling tank in the line from the pump to your filters/bladder? Periodically clean out the bottom of it. This does assume the sediment is course enough to settle out over a reasonably short period.

You dont need a pump curve, the curve is slightly a bow nearly straight, so it is pointless. Your piping has more effect on the pumps performance than the different from a steaigh line vs a correct pump curve.

If you have a well with a 20 foot static level producing more than what the pump is capable of pumping I see no reason that you couldn’t lang it at 100 feet down. If you tell me that I’m wrong, please explain why!

Most of the wells used for lawn irrigations systems in this area are about 30' depth. Is this pump suitable for these shallow wells?

I live on a riverbank that is a 95 foot drop to the water: nearly vertical. I bought this pump to put in the river to fill a cistern. Should I get a more powerful pump and just use the 1/2 horsepower for the cistern. I assumed this pump would work based on the 160 ft head, but perhaps not.

What if your static water level never goes below say 50’ but the pump is down at 100’ would it still satisfy the 30-50 pressure switch? Just wondering?

I have water storage tanks. Wondering, will bypassing the bladder tank and wiring in a float switched on the submersible well pump increase the pumps longevity?

Hey you do an Awesome job doing videos on all things. I am from Canada and I have a sand point and a 3/4 horse pump. It has a 30/50 switch. I checked the air pressure in the tank and it was 52 so I put it down to 28. That's what the plumber put in 10 years ago.Was I right putting it down to 28.

I think it should be set a few pounds below the upper limit or around 48, otherwise it won't turn on.

That pump could pump into a tank and then pump from the tank with a shallow well pump.

The paperwork that comes with the pump shows a float valve that can't be shut off and power still on pump won't like it
