Next step, a big wheel (like an old spinning wheel) attached to a rod to move the pump handle. Drive the "spinning wheel" with a bicycle sprocket and chain.

The left hand thread at the top is simply there so when you disconnect at the top for service you turn to the right and guaranteed to break that connection instead of a downhole connection which would all be tightening as you turn

I've had a Simple pump on my 50' well for 10+ years. I've got it connected to the 12V linear motor and a lead acid battery. I have a 100W solar panel to keep the battery charged. I use it for filling my pool and watering the garden. It's been great. I haven't changed any gaskets yet...

I guess I should have read the description first. When a seller wants you to request a quote instead of listing prices, it's always a good sign they're going to overcharge.

Clever, I like it. Back in the 1950's when I was about 9, one of my uncles had a house with a hand pump at the kitchen sink. He was told the builder dug the well first and built the house around it. The only electricity they had then was a single wire with bulb hanging down in a few of the rooms. He made a trough so he could pump water to the wood stove which had aside tank to heat water for bathing and dishes. From the water tank there was a hose that could send water to the tub in the very next room. If this will let you send pressurized water to the house that would be awsome.

A windmill with a cranking toggle would be ideal for your hand pump . It would save you tons of time pulling water up into your cistern .

We are also in northern Idaho. Our well is 580 feet deep with a static level of 80 feet. We added a deep well hand pump on our well also. The choice came down to Simple Pump or Bison Pump. I went with the Bison. The installation is basically the same for both pumps. Ours works well too! You have the option of adding a solar powered motor to your's that Bison doesn't offer on their pump. Other than that we are very happy with our hand pump!

Marty, I've been concerned about the same issue and plan to install install a pitcher pump on one of my old wells. This is a super vid. I wasn't aware such well caps are available. Now i can search for one for the size I need. Btw, watchout for that yellow rope you have holding the weight of your pump, it has a tendency to dry rot and rapidly disintegrates from ultraviolet sunlight.

I love your videos We are moving from California, where we have a completely off-grid cabin to Emmett Idaho (back on the grid) anyhow we used a solar well system I bought from RPS 4000$ for the pump and solar panels, and pumped in to a 5000 Gallon tank, The well pump does not work after sunset. So the tank had a 12 volt RV pump in line to bring water to the house,

Many moons ago, when we had a well dug, we ended up going 463 feet deep. One thing I learned from an "old timer" (a cousin who had a few decades on me) was to always attach a wire or rope to any tool i was using at the well head. Saved me more than once from losing a big pipe wrench down the hole. Like Lectro54 suggested, we used stainless steel aircraft cable to support our pump. Unfortunately for us, our well drilling company was less competent than yours was. They 1) under-perforated the pipe, 2) did NOT air blast the well when finished ("our compressor isn't working), and 3) left us with a well that would not even support a 7 gpm pump. On my current place, I want to put in a well to water the garden, but that's way down the "to do" list. Love your channel. Idaho looks gorgeous, but too cold for me!

To be on the safe side, cover up and protect the yellow poly rope. Over time the sun will deteriorate it. Nothing worse than having it brake right at the wellhead.

Good thing we did all the push ups in December so you can pump for 4 mins - LOL. I might have rotated a little so the water outlet is away from the blue well cover. Then a bucket could sit up next to side of well and fill up. Hose works too. Thanks for sharing

I don't understand why people continuously cooperate with code inspector's these people are not your friends they are only there to see how much money they can seal from you they can't do anything except put a lean on the property and if the property is payed for they can't do anything and unless you sale the property they get nothing from you and they can't take the property for the lien and if you put your children on the deed it will just sit there and have absolutely no affect on anything and your taxes will stay low ..

We need a reasonable code and code enforcement. It's there to protect the next owners or occupants. Property rarely stays in the family, it's often sold to an unrelated owner within 10 years. I've seen tons of problems from improperly constructed or installed products. Like using bell wire for a 20 amp circuit or placing the building foundation directly on earth without a footing and above the frost level.
@Anthony-zf1uq
@Anthony-zf1uq 2 ай бұрын
@@Doug-gp2qw the only thing that the code inspector is there for is to harass people so they can make more money for the city or county by making sure that you taxes go up so they can steal your land I will never comply and there do not need to be any other owners except family...

Here in the Netherlands we support and repair our old windmills and we have still a lot of them. Also groups of poeple who care for them in any way. Young people starting to learn the millers handwork and they do this with a lot of fun and enthusiasme. Also there are still some mills who mills the grain we have. One other task is to pump water in the lower lands in the winter to flod it to prepare the ground for the spring. Also we have them to pump water away when a certain level is reached to get rid of to much water. And in nearly every windwill there is a 5...10 KW motor to generate electricity. Which can be used in the windwill and or charge LiFePo4 accus. Yeah the dutch old guys had many ideas and we hold them alive and ad modern things. Not all but some modern things. Everey year we have a day called the windmill day so that everyone can come and see and learn things over that whole system build across the Netherlands.

@@mikeunum That is amazing and wise. Old ways most of the time are still better ways. We have an old 16 foot on a well pumping into a holding tank. I was so excited when we got it working again. I think I posted a short vid on it. Mine is too small for power generation but it will keep the garden and fruit trees watered 🙂

Well done regarding the video. I enjoyed watching it. I have a sister in Sagle who I visit often to fish Pend Oreille (Garfield bay) with my cousin from Rathdrum. Love that portion of Idaho which reminds me of my home town in NW Montana (Libby). I have a well on my property here in Butte, MT and because of the current issues in our world, am considering just such an animal to at least be able to get water in an emergency. I did look at the other style but as you said, they are really only good for a short draw. This one is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks again for sharing your videos.

Use that extra hole in the bracket to put a piece of rod with a foot on the ground. That way there's no flex in the structure. Also, this could be the subject of a modification where the lever arm is replaced by a large wheel. Think locomotive wheel action, where the steam engine piston is replaced by the pump and the thing works in reverse. Inertia would allow you to pump faster and more even. Making such a wheel and the bracket that would attach it would be a trivial task with a common garden variety steel bender from hazardfrought, using some earth wire clamps to make the spokes and a flat plate would remove the need for welding.

Great job! Good thinnin' Martin. Always good to have an emergency source of wa-wa. If your electric well pump were to break, you wouldn't be out of drinking water while you get a replacement. I don't remember, do you have a water softener yet? Would be a really good idea with yellow well water... Oh, did you ever pop the top on your cistern tank back up? Don't forget to build a roof over the cistern (on a slope) for snow protection next winter.

Wonderful channel to get ideas of how to become autonomous and independent .I'm in the process of getting my homestead ready as well in the Basque country (north Spain) Just as a curiosity Idahoo is a Basque word means Ox stop . In the village that I'm building my homestead with solar panels and soon a water well pulling big rocks with oxes has been a sport for centuries,they look after them very well and a few times a year during festivities they do exhibitions and competitions as a cultural thing and a excuse to bet some money on your favourite ox .it's easy to understand when you are here how centuries ago when locals of these few villages went to America as shepherds decided to name the area Idaho

Never use vaseline. It's a petroleum base. It eats rubber. Unless your O ring is nylon or a petroleum impervious material.

Well done! ha ha! Maybe, a bicycle pedal powered simple pully system, for the pumping arm would work out better for you? Just a thought. And you guy's are amazing. Blessings to you and your family.
