Great review Byron and quite timely on my end as currently tossing up between sounders for my 2020 Outback. Currently leaning towards the Humminbird Helix for its image quality, but that community mapping on the Lowrance FS looks unreal!

This would be a great upgrade to add on to my pedal kayak. Finding that structure will help me catch more mangrove jacks in the river systems and help me to find the schooling bass in the dams threw winter .. thanks for the opportunity and great review mate .

Thanks very much for the great review. I've just got my boat which has an older Humminbird with side imaging, but now I can't wait to get an Elite FS. I have a generation 1 Evinrude Etec motor which is NMEA2000 ready. The Elite units have a beautiful built in "instrument display" that takes all the data from an NMEA2000 ready engine and displays it all on this "instrument panel". So not only do you get a great fishfinder/GPS but a fully fledged virtual instrument display for your engine. What more could a fisho ask for. Before I knew about this I was going to hook up laptop (running the EMM software) with a long data cable, and hope I never got a drop of salt water on it LOL. I believe most modern engines are NMEA2000 compliant. All that's needed is to set up an easy and simple NMEA2000 network backbone (plenty KZfaq videos) and plug everything in.

@@ByronTeaHill Cheers, Have been watching so many YT reviews (probably mostly sponsored) in the last few weeks to get an idea of what need (and want).....many just seem too 'fluffy' and take 5 mins to tell me something that should take 30 sec... or forget to mention any bad points. I especially like that you explained how they stopped the 'in-sounder' maps and chart / plot updates, - that is pretty critical info, which many others have failed / forgotten to mention for example..
