Hi. The Error code 22:10 indicates a communications problem between the Ink Supply Station and the Electronics Module. Replacing the Ink Supply Station usually fixes the problem, however, the data cable between the small interconnect board and the Electronics module could also be the problem. in our case it was dirty contacts of two printheads. After cleaning the one of the printhead, this error code 22:10 went away and it indicated that one other printhead needed to be cleaned. we rebooted a few time to get the error message to change.

Sorry, I did a few typo. I had corrected it now. Printheads are linked to ink supply station (ISS). As you mentioned the Ink Supply Station communicate to the Printhead carriage unit. Cleaning the contacts on two printhead did the work for us.

Hello. I had 21:10 error. I just moved head carriage by hand leftwards and turned on the printer. The error has disappeared. Now display shows me with "cross" that Magenta is empty, and with "empty rectangle" that Black is not inserted. Is this problem can be solved with new Ink Supply Station replacement? Dear Bob, in your opinion you think that i need to change my ISS? Sometimes i had some problem with a cartridg. The plotter ask to change it. I changed and after a little it send me the error 22.10 I try to put out all the cartridges and for a mounth i solved a problem. but know i had the same problem with the same cartridge and also the error 22.10. i wasn't sure to change it becuase the problem is not continuos. Sorry for my english :(

Hello. Most of the time when you get an error 22:10, replacing the ink supply station fixes the problem. When it doesn't fix it, the problem is most likely the interconnect cable. The cable is a known problem and causes intermittent 21:10 and 22:10 errors. The cable plugs into the interconnect board behind the display and goes through the center of the plotter and plugs into the electronics module on the other end. When you replace it, tape the new cable onto the end of the old cable to pull it through the machine when the old one is being pulled out. There are 2 sizes of the cable. One for the 24" print width plotter and one for the 42". I replaced the ink supply station as well as the belt (purchased from you) and everything seemed to work fine. I don't use the printer that much. I just tried to print six sets of a two page project, after the first page I got a "cyan cartridge" needs to be replaced. I replaced it. Now it shows full. Immediately the yellow and magenta decided they needed to be replaced. Replaced them. Now the printer says 22:10 error again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. --Mark

Are you using new (not refilled) HP ink or 3rd party ink? I recommend using HP ink just because of the large number of problems I have seen caused by refilled or 3rd party ink.

Hello. The ink cartridges share some electrical signals. If one of the cartridges is having a problem, it can effect the others. It would be useful to have a set of near empty cartridges to swap out one at a time to determine which ink cartridge is failing or a new set of ink cartridges. So both ISS types are interchangeable, and regardless of which version I have already (the newer type), I can use either? Presumably they both use the same cartridges? Finally, is there a possibility for these cartridges to dry out? After receiving this error I removed the cartridges and had them sat on top of the plotter for a day or two, now all are reporting empty - could this be that, although still full, they've simply dried out?

Hello. The 2 types of ISS are interchangeable. The ink slots are identical - same ink. The cartridges cannot dry out under normal conditions (not out in the sun for a couple of years). There is a sensing issue with the ISS or the data cable connecting the interconnect board with the electronics module. The interconnect board is the small board the ISS plugs into. You might want to replace both. www.lpscomputer.com/collections/designjet-500-800-parts-page?page=3. The ink cartridges share some signals, so 1 defective cartridge may make them all look bad. Remove all the ink and cycle the power. When the plotter asks for the cartridges to be installed, put them in one at a time. If the plotter accepts it, take it back out and go the the next one. The ink supply stations are interchangeable and the same ink goes into both. The ink cartridges contain plastic bags with the ink. It is not possible for them to dry out without leaking. The cartridges share some basic signals, so if one is not passing along something like the 5VDC, the cartridges down stream will show bad. Try a fresh set of ink cartridges. It is also possible the ISS is bad or that you did not plug both cable bundles back into the interconnect board.

Ah, so I think I found the problem. You know the pistons that push up into the ink cartridge to determine how much ink is left? The spring popped off the mechanism for the cyan one so it doesn't push up. Would that throw the 22:10 error?

Well, we put in a Ink Supply Station from a backup plotter, and after going through the 11-min printhead alignment, it threw the 22:10 error again. Does that mean it's a problem with the cheap chinese ink we have? Cause it wasn't throwing the error in the other plotter. Also, would a problem with the ink tubes throw the 22:10 error? The ink connections seems to be pretty gunked up at the cartridge end (again, cheap chinese ink), but it's printing fine.

Ideally, you always want to use HP OEM ink cartridges, if nothing else, for reliability. Pistons failing to pressurize the ink cartridges can cause 22:10. However, air in the ink tubes can also cause the machine to believe it's failing to pressurize the ink cartridges, since the air compresses, whereas ink does not. If you need to get air out of the lines, I suggest you purchase our universal priming tool.

Hello Bob, I recently purchased a HP 800PS 42 replacement ink tube kit from IPS computer. I viewed your install video which was very easy to watch and follow. Thank you. Now I have 3 " Incorrect Ink cartridge installed X " symbols all but the yellow which shows as full but the container appears to be almost empty. I have replaced them with brand new cartridges and these are genuine HP products but the screen still shows the X. I never received a 22:10 reading but based on my information is the ISS shot ? Thank you for your time and consideration. Ron

There is a small chance your issue is caused by a faulty interconnect PCA (C7769-60042) or interconnect cable (C7770-60267), but the best bet is to start with the ISS.

Bob, I have purchased the replacement ISS from LPS. Followed your video and upon initializing and rebooting it came up with the same icons as before. You mentioned a faulty PCA and Interconnect cables in your response do I install one before the other ? Please advise as it appears I may have just chucked $90.00 bucks out the window. You can start with the interconnect PCA, since it's simpler to replace. In the event you end up with purchased parts you don't need, you can always return them.

Bob need help! I Replaced the Belt and service station as you directed with LPS parts! The belt seems to work fine , but the new service station I received and install, makes a noise at the gears of the service station motor, when the print heads run to the service station location and still giving me the system error 21:10 call hp support??????

Did you buy the service station from LPS? Make sure to use the correct screws for mounting the service station. If you use the cover screws (which will fit), the service station wiper tray will impact them, because they're slightly longer than the service station mounting screws.

Hello. Occasionally the 22:10 error is caused by a faulty data cable. The cable connects the small interconnect board (board the ISS and service station connect to) and the electronics module. It is the broad connector at the back edge of the interconnect board and runs through the plotter to the left end. The cable passes all the signals from the ISS, Service Station and display. Missing or weak signals will be misinterpreted by the electronics module as a malfunction in the device associated with that signal. The answer is yes.

Dear Bob, I have an HP500ps 42" printer. I was getting maintenance advised messages for a while. Eventually I got a paper jamb message, when there was no paper jamb. I turned out to be the belt. I had the belt replaced and after replacing the belt I still got "maintenance advised". The service tech told me that my machined needed a new service station. After ordering one on eBay and not being able to get the tech to come back for 6 weeks, (He's been sick, sent by his company to seminars, sick etc.) I watched your video and put in the refurbished service station (Unfortunately from china, I did not know about your company when I ordered it). The install went smoothly but I am still getting "maintenance required" when I start up the machine. I have made nice test prints and done a print head alignment. Is there a way to clear the errors? Or check to find out what the current issue is?

Hello Daniel, To reset the usage counter, start the machine up normally and enter the Set-up menu (bottom option on the main screen). Then press the "up-key" and "enter" at the same time. This will bring you to the "Service tools" menu. You should see three options. Select "Service utilities. Then scroll down to "EEROM Setup options." Now you will see an option for "Reset usage counter." In this submenu, you can pick whichever component that needs its usage counter reset. I suggest you start by resetting the spittoon counter and the service station counter. Bob

Bomb slide, My hp designjet 510 is not aligning I already changed the print head and the black cartridge and it does not line up, I had a similar problem on an A3 and did the reset procedure on the panel and the problem was solved, you could reset me on Panel for my hp designjet 510? I'm grateful.

Not sure what you mean by not aligning. Print heads? Could be a worn out belt not positioning the carriage accurately or paper that "bleeds" so much that the line sensor cannot accurately locate edges.

If it's asking for setup printheads, you can tell the machine you've installed them. The setup printheads don't have any electronics on them, so the machine doesn't actually know if they're installed or not.

Hello. I am assuming you have a Designjet 500 or 800. An error 79:04 is a very general error having to do with firmware. The plotter is confused. This could be caused by a bad file from the computer or an internal hardware problem in the plotter. The first thing to do is try printing another file. If it still fails, disconnect the plotter from the computer and do an internal plot like a print head alignment. If the error goes away, the problem is with the computer. Download and re-install the newest printer driver from HP. If the problem is still present when disconnected from the computer, the problem is in the plotter. Supplies can cause this problem. If you have them available, replace all the ink cartridges (HP OEM only) and print heads. If the problem is still present, replace the formatter - see kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbaClr2VvNS-YWg.html (designjet 800). Still not working?
