As always, BEWARE OF CHEAP BELTS. They do not use anti-oxidizing chemicals or high-density polyurethane/DuPont Kevlar core like ours do. Cheap belts will deteriorate just like the original HP belts.
This video goes through the step-by-step procedure for replacing the carriage belt in the Designjet T1100 plotter. The procedure is nearly identical for the other plotters in the "T" family and also for the "Z" series of Designjet plotters.

I ordered the belt from LPS on Thursday night and it arrived Monday. I ordered the belt after taking my Z2100 apart. It would have been better to wait because my memory in putting it back together is not as fresh after waiting a a few days for the package to arrive. I used painters tape to tape screws to their locations or parts as I took it off and that helped a lot saving me time during reassembly looking for the correct screw. Also put painters tape over the ink ports to keep them from drying out. After it was back together it printed perfectly the first time. I couldn’t imagine doing this without this video. Thanks!

Excellent walk through video. After replacing the belt on our Z2100 I now feel like a legend thanks to this tutorial. Video quality is a bit dodgy, but it's good enough and the steps and descriptions are really easy to follow. Unfortunately I've bought a cheap belt, it was one of those, "ah well, if it's knackered, it's knackered, things", so I just found the cheapest available. But when it does go again I'll know what to do 👍🏻

I think it is remarkable to be able to DIY this level of repair I never would have tried this without your comprehensive information and high quality belt. Your video on replacing the belt is thorough & presents a more logical approach to changing the belt. The HP Service Manual is designed to confuse & possibly intimidate. I did stumble at the point of threading the belt onto the carriage, I couldn’t quite understand where the changes in the belt should hit the slots on the back of the carriage. I ended up looking at the HP service manual and another online video. I didn't get the recipe for the playdo explosives:) which might be handy in resolving some less successful projects.

Thank you for the video and walk though! With just four hours of work and calibration I was able to get my donated HP DesignJet T1120ps plotter back up and running in my classroom. I've never had to repair a plotter before and I definitely prefer having the video compared to the walk though manual that came in the belt kit. Thanks for the help!

We just used your kit to repair a T1120. It worked great, but we found some differences (that confused us at first) between the T1100 you are repairing in the video and our T1120. On ours, we couldn't find the trailing cable. We finally found it when we removed the ink tubes; the trailing cable is attached to the ink tubes and moves as a unit. The end of the cable is also mounted on a rail in front at the left side. We had to pull the carriage to the service station in order to get to the connections; you can't remove one from the carriage without removing the other. Also, our T1120 has no zero force connectors with retaining clips, and it does take some force to remove and especially to re-connect those cables. We also replaced the x axis encoder strip, just in case, to save having to disassemble this monster again. Other than that, we had more trouble just removing the covers than any of the rest of it, and they were a bear to get back on correctly. But, after a couple of hours we had a working 44" printer again. Thanks for the quality parts and the comprehensive instructions, Bob!

Thank you very much for the great video Bob. It helped me fit a new belt to my recently purchased Designjet Z3100ps 44 inch plotter. I believe the upper carriage bushing was either already gone or I broke it however since the carriage can bind. Replaced printhead. Performed the calibration all went good. Printed a few prints. Now the machine hangs up at different times. Could be during print system initialize or during waiting for a print job. Very random. P.S. I purchased the carriage belt kit from LPS Computers.

Ran into an issue on my 44" T1100PS, since it has a rewinder, the motor is in the way of the T10 unlocking hole for the carriage assembly. You will either need a VERY long T10 (probably a 12" or longer bit) or you will need to power on the printer and pull the plug once the carriage unlocks.

I replaced the belt on a 44" Z3100 and when I reassembled the plotter it grabs the cutter and drags the cutter all the way to the service station and the cutter hits the service station and I get the possible paper jam error. How do I fix this? Also one time it didn't grab the cutter, but the service station didn't move all the way out of the way before the carriage tried to move, do I have to calibrate the service station? I did do a complete disassembly and cleaning and reassembly of the service station.

Hello Bob: Please, I have an DJ T610 with "replace defective printhead (Matte black / Yellow)". I purchased 1 year ago one pack of recycled printheads (packed and very good sealed). I put the new recycled printhead, but the error persists. Then I purcheased an new recycled printhead (from Amazon) thinking that the other printhead can be defective..., when I put the new printhead the error persists..., If I put the 3 printheads recycled, the error persists only with B/Y printhead. I think that recycled printheads is not the problem. I have replaced the complete carriage (including the board), belt and ink catridges..., the problem persists. Then I put the latest Firmware (9.0.0.1.1), but problem persists. I can not think of more things, I only can try to put an new and original B/Y printhead. Please Bob, can you think of what it can be the problem? Thanks!!. Jose.
@LPSshowsyouhow
@LPSshowsyouhow 5 жыл бұрын
Since you have a combination of refurbished print heads from at least two vendors AND the symptoms have changed, it is probably best to start out with a set of new OEM print heads to eliminate the possibility of problems there. It is possible the trailing cable needs to be replaced because all the signals from the print heads and carriage travel through that cable to the electronics. You might want to double check the trailing cable connection at the carriage since that was recently disconnected.

I don't know of any way to "reset" the date on the print heads. They will work fine even if the plotter says they are expired. The plotter will warn that the print head is out of date and ask if you want you use it anyway. If the PH has clogged nozzles, you can try soaking the bottom portion of the print head in about 1/2" of Windex in a coffee mug over night to soften the dried ink in the nozzles and then let the plotter condition them after reinstallation.

In my case, in the end I had to call a technician. When I set up the machine, I had a small, black piece that I thought (because it looks very much like) that it was one of the fasteners of the large flat white cable that moves next to the car. That piece must be very common to be loose when the belt is changed since the one who came already knew the problem and bring a spare part that is not worth more than € 5. Good Luck

Hi, if you look up the error message you get you will see that it is to do with the PCA (print carriage assembly) but in my experiance it is actually the trailing cable. This is the long cable that fixes into a board on the left, wraps through the black clip inside in the middle of the print area and connects to print carriage. Normally it is just a loose connection so open up the left hand side again and check that the ribbon is fully inserted into the connector and the restraint strip is pushed back down.

The error 86:01 is a Y-axis error (carriage motion). It is triggered by a spike in the carriage motor current (an increase in carriage motion friction caused by the carriage hitting something or being inhibited by something) or from the encoder sensor on the carriage. The sensor tells the electronics where the carriage is, carriage speed and direction. If the belt is worn or the motor pulley has debris in the teeth it will cause lumpy carriage motion and the electronics will generate the error to prevent poor print quality. The encoder strip itself can be dirty and give false info to the electronics about carriage motion. Start by cleaning the encoder strip with a damp cloth, check the condition of the carriage belt and motor pulley. You can also move the carriage back and forth by hand to feel for variations in resistance. To unlock the carriage, cycle the power and when the carriage moves, pull the power cord out of the back of the plotter.

im confusing about the belt tensioner, should i screw it all the way or should i leave a small space?
@LPSshowsyouhow
@LPSshowsyouhow 7 жыл бұрын
Counter-clockwise to reduce tension, clockwise to increase tension. Turn it clockwise as far as it will go when you go to tension the belt.

I did what you said but when I try starting it up the screen doesn’t turn on and their is a clicking sound. Any solution
@LPSshowsyouhow
@LPSshowsyouhow 6 жыл бұрын
The clicking sound is probably the power supply crowbar circuit turning the PS off to protect itself. There is likely a pinched wire shorting to the frame. This commonly happens when the left end frame is put back on. Carefully check all the wires in that area and you will find the problem. This generally does not hurt the power supply.

I ordered the replaced the carriage belt from you last week and replaced it today with no problems. When the plotter starts up the carriage goes all the way to the left then back all the way to the right then I get an error message. 86:01 Possible paper jam. Any idea what may be the problem? The plotter is free of any paper and the roll isn't even loaded. I tried loading the paper and same problem. It tells me to lift the window, raise the lever, check printing area then reclose both and restart. I still get the same error message. Please help.

+Ash Man I have the same error. Did you get it to work?
@ashleycarter2048
@ashleycarter2048 8 жыл бұрын
+Alexander Zurhorst Yes, the cutting wheel that follows the carrier wasn't in the exact place it need to be so the carrier wouldn't pick it up. It wasn't properly seated in the rails. I'd also recommend cleaning the ink heads. I didn't and I'm getting occasional spots of ink on the edges of some drawings. Let me know if that fixes it. Good Luck!

Do you have part Q6683-67006 for T610 ?
@LPSshowsyouhow

I'm not seeing that part number in the T610 manual. What is the description of the part? The numbers printed on the parts themselves are used by HP for internal purposes, and don't usually match the numbers in the manual.

Hi. It is not uncommon for the power supply to fail on these plotters. Remove the formatter (board with the ethernet connector) and power the plotter up. Look down through the hole where the formatter lives and see if there is a red LED on at the left rear of the board all the way at the bottom of the Electronics Module. If it is not on, replace the power supply. If it is on replace the main logic board. The parts can be found at: www.lpscomputer.com/collections/designjet-z2100-parts

if you remove the time spent on twisting with a screwdriver and other manual operations from this video, then only 8-10 minutes will remain. and if you spit out potatoes from your mouth, it will be clear even for non-anglophone people.
