Rock & Rain 4x4 - Nissan vs Toyota vs Land Rover

Күн бұрынEven the rain wont stop us from getting out there and having a great time off road. In this 4x4 video we are climbing the infamous Suzuki Hill with 3 well built 4wd rigs.
The Land Rover Defender Puma is on 35 inch BF Goodrich KM2 tyres. It is twin locked with 49% reduction gears in the transfercase. The Toyota Landcruiser 80 series is on 37 inch Federal Curagia MT tyres also with reduction gears in the transfer case and 5.13 diff gears. The Nissan Y61 Patrol GU Ute is on 35 inch Toyo Open Country MT Tyres also with transfercase reduction gears.

The driver of that Land Rover deserves a lot of respect. All others relied on their cars entirely, didn't know how to read terrain.

Love it...so much tougher on steep, technical climbs with a manual transmission without proper gearing. The patrol needs more torque or a better crawl ratio. Driver could also benefit from learning to properly use momentum.

Yeah, slightly more momentum and roll through each coming ledge definitely helps. He did have the disadvantage of going through last which in these conditions means it will be muddy and slippery.

@@lror Yeah...has he regeared? Is everyone running 35" tires? What's the crawl ratio on the patrol?

I believe he has transfer case reductions with standard ratio diff gears. The patrol and Defender are on 35s while the 80 series is on 37s.

The front is nicely setup. It's running Superior Engineering Superflex radius arms, 12inch shocks and flexy coils.

Nice driving by the boys and good spotting. Once those rocks get a mud coat things change quickly. Will have to arrange another day out soon.

What's the key of best performance of the LandRover? Driver? Tires? The car wheelbase or weight distribution? Thanks for sharing... amazing as usual!!

Maybe a mix of things and the final drive ratio is the lowest out of all 3 by far. Also going first in these conditions helps a lot too.

@@lror yes, good observation! I practice Trial from a really long time and you are true: in some situations (wet is one of them) being the first means to get all the obstacles CLEAN, wet, but not muddy!! I also thought about tires, because in all offroad... tire sculpture and material may change a lot... especially in wet/muddy conditions (to be true this is real on road too). Thanks for your answer and going on sharing those awesome videos. 👌
