Do I have to drain my oil first before I change
@Patriot-bn9om
@Patriot-bn9om 4 ай бұрын
The vehicles WITH an oil cooler requires the gasket with two holes. The gasket with one large whole is for vehicles WITHOUT an oil cooler. Both type vehicles have the same block that requires a gasket.
@craigd1275
@craigd1275 Күн бұрын
You can use the slot type gasket with the oil cooler setup, but some oil will bypass the cooler. That is not detrimental to the engine. Over 95% of the oil will still go through the cooler. Using the 2 hole type gasket with a block off plate will cause problems because the center section could break off and plug the oil galleries in the block.

Excellent video, Stephen. Thank you. I am replacing my gasket on a 2012 Silverado 5.3 and the video was right on point. If I gather correctly, the oval gasket is for vehicles that only have the block-off and no cooler lines whereas the one with the two holes and O rings are for the vehicles that have the cooler lines. Thanks again for your awesome video.

1. Wrong gasket 2. Change the o ring on the fitting, protruding the back of the cooler block. Its plastic, and they leak. Now, a pro tip, if you're tracking down a pesky oil leak that is around the starter area. Pull your crank sensor above the starter and replace the O ring.

The gasket you first showed is for The Eliminator bracket kit cover. . The second gasket with two holes in it are made for the actual oil line cooler the one that's on your vehicle now when you pulled out of the replacement kit. That is the correct one if you're going to eliminate it you'll have the actual gasket that has no holes in it.. nice job good video

Changing that gasket was a good temporary fix. I was too busy to do the full job this summer so I paid a garage to change the oil pan gasket, oil cooler lines, and the transmission cooler lines. They switched to a 3-line system on the transmission and added a cooler in front of the radiator at the same time. These things will leak so if you are keeping the vehicle long term just go ahead and do it.
