Who cares if its been done before? This whole series is great and well documented (which has been lacking for bbodies). Its honestly perfect for a lot of us bbody owners cause most of us want them to be faster and more modern but reliable too so I'm stoked this exists.

There's a really good engineering explained video about why swapping brakes won't gain you better stopping speed\distance. Basically, the stock brakes are more grabby than friction, so even the stock units would lock the wheels (friction of the tire overcome) or, in this case, kick on the abs. (This is why your rears, even in a 4500lbs boat, are drum. Still more grabby than your tires...) The only thing you can do to decrease stopping distance is more tire grip to increase road friction before lock up, which you already saw when you swapped the tires. What these upgraded brakes DO do significantly better, is cool down. So towing or spirited driving will be safer, with later fade.

With the slotted and drilled rotors, all else being equal, you should see an increased stopping distance due to less surface area. The dual pistons make up the difference, hopefully, but I would never recommend S&D rotors on a street car because they work less for street applications. On a track, its a different story, you want those cheese graters doing their thing. I'd bet that the stock rotors with the Wilwood calipers would put down some really impressive stopping distances. I am enjoying this build so far-I want some more modern power for my B-body.

Good point. I might try that one of these days. I had hoped to find just slotted rotors, but couldn't at the time I was shopping.

I just got the same kit for my 95 for Christmas. Glad to hear you like them even if they don't make a DRAMATIC difference.

I took away a few different things... 1) an extra 7 ft is still a half a car length of safety. 2) I can't say the brakes were guaranteed 1000% bedded in yet, so I wanted to give them some more time , so we'll revisit. 3) and better brakes aren't always about distance, but the number of times they can be applied. So the experiment will continue!

@@internetbrandsautogroup3826 I had no idea that Willwood offered an upgraded bolt on caliper…I need to get myself a pair. Also really appreciate the info on the custom brake line. Love this project…that Wagon with the LS3 is going to make one heck of a family truckster.

Love this series! What MPG were you getting before you started? I have a 95 caprice wagon and I’m getting 15mpg.

I have no idea, TBH. I work from home and often drive other vehicles for reviews... so driving for me is often either errand or fun/family-related and I never really paid attention. Thanks for the compliment!
