It is not easy for a program to lose a generational player but it looks like Iowa is doing a good job or as best as you could hope in moving on from Caitlin Clark. The are currently doing better then some other programs that have lost starts. We take a deep dive on the impact of Lucy Olson on Iowa roster this season.

Spot on. Being a UCONN fan I've seen a lot of Lucy Olsen. She is a really, really good player. A loss for the Big East, a big win for the Big 10. Really if I was a woman in the portal and/or had a daughter who played I would not want her to attend Louisiana State Kardashian school of drama.

Great move for both parties. She’s a bucket for sure and can continue to be the primary scoring option. She’s gonna have to improve her assist numbers, tho.

I expect assists will go up because she will have some scorers around her. Nothing against Villanova's players, but Olsen was their primary scorer so she would not have many assists. I just wonder about her transitioning from the 2 to the 1 ... I don't remember her as being the primary ball handler. Didn't work out for HVL trying to switch. I do think Iowa has some other options for PG and Olsen coud wind up back at the 2.

@@ronsmac Part of the reason is she is a masterclass defender. It balances out how they play. Caitlin was elite at running the offense and scoring or creating points, and Marshal balanced her out by being a masterful defender who could stick on anyone for the ENTIRE game. Marshal constantly would be on the opposing team's best offensive player like in the final four UConn/Iowa game. Their offense had really good rhythms with lots of different plays they could create points with, and they played extremely fast paced so Marshall really was the perfect balance to be someone constantly at 100% on defense challenging opposing point scorers.

They still have Stulke and Afoltter, Taylor McCabe will take Gabby Marshall's spot and while on defense she will need to step it up to match Marshall she may actually be an upgrade in shooting as she is likely the best shooter on Iowa (including Clark , she just does not have logo range and does not usually shoot off the bounce) McCabe shot 46 percent from 3pt line this year and 41% as a freshman and one coach said she is the best set shooter she has seen. McCabe arguably should have played more but Iowa leaned on its Seniors hard as they were better on defense than the others and had better chemistry. The real question is who steps up in Kate Martin's spot which was a very big deal. If they can find someone to do what Martin did and Stulke, McCabe and Afoltter all progress and get a little better with Olsen they may still be a top 25 team.

I don't mind saying I'm glad we don't have to play her twice a year, and again in the tournament, now. She'll be tougher to handle now, I'm thinking. Her presence at Iowa would make them one of the top teams in the Big 10 behind USC, UCLA, and Ohio State especially if Kiki Iriafen goes to USC. This will be a pretty well-balanced squad. With Heiden/O'Grady at the 5, and Hannah at 4, they'll have good size and paint play. Olsen at point can score, McCabe at the 2 is a deadly sniper who is poised for a breakout year. Affolter is a great all-around player at the wing, and Feuerbach will be solid again coming in at both 2 and 3. I expect to see nice contributions from Mallegni backing up Affolter, and Stremlow will probably get the call as back-up PG. I think this team has potential to be ranked in the teens by the end of the year, and win a couple of tourney games.

I think the point about playing O'Grady and Stulke together will help minimize the issue with opposing bigs. Against a smaller frontcourt then Feurbach comes in and Stulke and O'grady spell one another. I also see Stulke continuing to improve. She made great strides this past year, and still has room to grow (as a player, not height :-) And with the 25 commits, Iowa will continue to be a national presence. With the arrival of Ava, that gives her the center position, man she will be a beast under the guidance of coach Jensen. For the remaining starter spots I'd go with Hannah as a FW (maybe let her add midrange shots to her arsenal), Taylor as SG (good shooter, such a waste not been used in the Finals), Syd as another guard (mainly focusing on defense, rebounds, and loose balls), and for the last one, although Lucy will be transferring, if Kylie could up her playmaking game then I'd go with her as PG (because it's a plus if the PG knows the team better) and put Lucy as the 6th player. However, if kylie can't improve to be a good PG in the offseason then I'd put Lucy as the PG and Kylie as the 6th player and Addison will continue to be the backup post player to either Ava or Hannah.

Lucy will immediately be the best player on this team. She will be starting, barring a freak injury. The only questions for Iowa is who will be the 4th and 5th starters, between Feuerbach, McCabe, O'Grady and Heiden. @@davidcollins897 Yes she will certainly be starting because Iowa is an offensive team and she is the 3rd leading scorer last season. However, if she wants to be the best player on this team then she will have to increase her FG% especially her 3pt% (less than 30%) as well as her APG. Though I believe that if Stuelke or Affolter improves a lot this offseason then Lucy won't be the #1 of this team. Still, I am sure she will be a great addition to this team and will help them stay as a powerhouse in the BIG10.

Because the last time I checked CC accounted for 8.9 assists per game while scoring 31.9 points per game for Iowa and this was with have four years of continuity playing with her teammates a Iowa. Which can't be undervalued. Whereas LO only accounted for 23.3 points a game and only 3.8 assist a game for Villanova this past NCAAWs season. Iowa definitely won’t make it the round of 32! Moreover, her defense is worse than Caitlin Clarks's...good luck trying to replace CC...
