Ever wondered about the diet of a pro athlete?
Lucy and Reece dive into to the meals and snacks that they eat on a normal training week, and what it takes to keep up their nutrition between sessions.
After taking a food intolerance test, and finding a number of new intolerances, Lucy and Reece find their way around these huge diet changes, and the impact this has had on their lives and training. Lucy discusses the impact this could have on her racing performance going forward.
Follow us for a few days of swim, bike, run and food - the journey of eating and training as pro triathletes!

Why are you refraining from eating eggs …. They are not technically dairy products as they have no milk by products. It is just a function of retail classification that eggs are considered dairy - not their specific genus.

Sorry for the confusion- the test specifically said egg intolerance as well as dairy!

@@trentlandis7601 I can understand the if you do not want to eat something based on your individual idea of morality pertaining to food source, but the cholesterol comment was factually incorrect. Cholesterol in itself is not bad for you. Breast milk and prior to breast milk a woman produces colostrum, which is made up of nothing but fat and cholesterol. Colostrum is extremely healthy and vital to a baby’s health. Healthy fats and cholesterol from pure sources are not the issue. Type two diabetics and those on the verge on becoming diabetic have change the course of their health by eating health fats and consuming good cholesterol while getting rid of processed carbs and unneeded sugar along with daily exercise.

Plant based diet is the only way to go. I went full plant based two years ago and I feel the best I have felt in 25 years. I’m 42 and in the best shape and health of my life. Wish I made this diet change when I was a NCAA tennis player. Going plant based is like unlocking a cheat code for life.

As a triathlete I've also had a food intolerance test done a couple of years ago and also cut a lot of foods that were part of my day to day diet. I've since discovered that if you are eating a lot of the same foods you will develop an intolerance to that food. Just by reducing/cutting back the intake of these foods will rectify the intolerance problem. What I'm trying to say is just because you're intolerant to certain foods doesn't mean you'll always be intolerant.
@runnerX007
@runnerX007 2 жыл бұрын
FYI food intolerance testing is not accurate and typically are based on measuring IgG antibodies which should be present by anybody after eating whatever food they are flagging. Sadly, there is no "test" for intolerances [if only it could be so simple!]--the only way to identify an intolerance is through trial & error or elimination/reintroduction.

@@kjml129 For some people certain food intolerance could be so clear they don't need any test at all. I am intolerant to milk (even lactose free milk is not too ok). When I have it, I get nausea, severe stomach pain attacks and passing soft stool or diarrhea. I only cut out milk from usual diet and the bad effects stop. Occasionally I think it could be just a coincidence or it's just my imagination, so I try milk and I get sick again. Maybe the whole thing is still psychological (which can cause physiological problems) and I am really not intolerant to milk, and I should do a blind test or something. Then I would have to see some kind of specialist psychologist to cure me of this reverse-placebo (something making me sick for no medical reason) effect to milk. It's easier to just cut out milk.

Cheers from Los Angeles, the land of wraps everything from Mexican to Indian food… if you hear the wraps up slightly beforehand, they’ll bend nicely. Put a small drop of oil on the “inside” of the wrap, it’ll also stick nicely. That’s what all the restaurants out here do. It’s why they serve you a stack of tortillas in the little clay container with the top on - to keep the steam in & keep ‘em warm. Hope that helps!!

This is a bit late, but here are my recommendations! (I live in Germany, so unfortunately I'm not sure where else they are available) - Alpro has two oat milks made to taste like milk. There's a 3.8% and 1.8% version, and I find them really great in tea since they taste like milk (and in my opinion they taste like what milk wishes it could be!). - Veganz is my favourite brand for any cheat-y foods. Specifically, their vegan coconut chocolate bar (decadent), lemon cookies (amazing), and any of their pizza (not bad for vegan cheese!) - If you happen to be in Germany I would make a bee-line for the snacks at DM. Anything from DM :D

Oh, as a gluten and lactose malabsorbant, I need to comment on this one. Lucy, you might be in luck: you likely can eat dairy provided it doesn't contain lactose. That means you can probably eat eggs. Also, choose lacto-free milk, butter, etc (look out for Arla produce). Not all dairy contains lactose, which is what you're likely to be intolerant to. It's worth experimenting because eggs are too good. For gluten-free breads, the only 2 brands that aren't powdery and act like "normal" bread are Warburtons and Schar. Pizza tip: White Rabbit. 100% gf and vegan. They use substitute cheese with MozzaRisella. It tastes good also.

As a Vegan, and Triathlete, I found this very interesting indeed; and not from the aspect people would think. I feel it's super important if people are not feeling great to go get themselves tested. Food intolerance can cause so many issues if not diagnosed and understood. Seems Lucy can be a Flexatarian and eat some meats if she wishes but has to be careful on other things. Mixing plant based foods is a fantastic way to balance overall health; though yes I myself would prefer people to adopt a full plant based/Vegan diet. Well done TC-B 💚👍 Dominos do a gluten free Pizza, as-well as Vegan, so you could ask for the a mix of both to get your fix 😁

Butter has such a small amount of lactose in it that people who are lactose intolerant often find they can tolerate it. I always wondered why i couldn't tolerate milk and most cheeses but was fine with butter. I did some research and that clarified things. Added to above is the fact that you'd need to be eating tonnes of butter in one go to feel any side effects because of a lactose intolerance.

15 yr old daughter changed from USA swimming to USA triathlon a month ago and loves it!!! We are a plant based family. Can you share the recipe for the bars you made please? That would be great for her long rides.

In the UK Pizza Express is a good spot to get Gluten Free pizza with vegan cheese. They also have vegan gluten free desserts carrot cake was amazing! Something else you can try if you still want beef is wild game meats like boar, venison, or moose. I found duck eggs to impact less than chicken eggs if you still want eggs.

Food intolerance is not the end but once you learn and try new things over time it will be more easy and you learn there is so much other options don't worry Tip 1: If you are only intolerance to wheat gluten try make a spelt pizza, it is not the same but very good and filling Tip 2: combine almond and rice "milk" and make a cappuccino from it, it is the best

Have you tried cauliflower pizza base. I remember when I was vegan, I used a coconut nut oil based cheese too, which was delicious.

Genius seeded Cob bread is amazing (gluten free obvs) Nutribrex cereal is amazing too. It’s like wheatabix but gf and made with the grain Sorghum which is gf and super good for you. Befree pitta bread is brilliant too as is Waitrose own sourdough.

You can get "good protein" "as an athlete" plant based. Ask Jan Frodeno...

If she has a dairy intolerance, eating it would cause her to have intestinal hyper-permeability in her gut, thus causing the macro/micronutrients to not digest properly anyway. Better to use vegan protein and actually absorb the protein than take Whey and have no absorption. She is not plant based - she literally eats meat in this video.

💅 The nail shots are making me laugh out loud! Well done. I'm curious about the test though. Is this something a simple blood test with proper analysis can reveal, or was there more specifics to it? You all are looking lean...get my ass in gear.

Do you spend a lot of time cooking? How do you manage having enough energy to train, and cook? For me, cooking is harder than training 😅 Would love some cooking tips! Great video.
