The Philippine house is actually good in Filipino standard. People would refer you as rich with that kind of house. Dirty kitchen is very common in the Philippines and a bucket in the bathroom is the most common thing as most people don't have shower or they don't like it.

Its actually a common thing in Filipino society to hire maids (can be men or women). The dirty kitchen with a sleeping place is common thing in households, especially for some lower-income families. However, the conception that Lud is portraying is definitely incorrect. They aren't slaves, they are treated almost as family. They eat with the family and even go on trips with the family.

One thing that really annoyed me was the fact the Lud kept thinking that we treat our maids or “helpers” as we like to call them here in the Philippines, as slaves. We absolutely do not. I mean. Of course, there will always be that one family who thinks their above everyone else. But most of the time, people treat their helpers like family in the Philippines. We had helpers when I was growing up and we treated them like one of our own. The eat with us at the table, they have their own bedrooms and bathrooms, they come with us when we go on vacation, etc. In some cases, these helpers end up spending the rest of their lives withe the families that take them in. Some even bring their children in to work full time. I get that in other countries, mainly first world countries, it’s culture to look down upon these types of people and the work they do. Something that needs to be changed.
@Dungeonhammer
@Dungeonhammer 2 жыл бұрын
The average North American has no real concept of having maids. It is reserved for the ultra-rich in our society. The author's ignorance is primarily because of this. Maids were only common place for the typical American during the age of slavery. He does not realize that household helpers are (generally) respected workers in other countries.

Homes in Asian countries are often really amazing and affordable though I was a little surprised by the Tokyo home. No surprises with the home in the Philippines though, I've been there before and everything is insanely cheap and nice (though that is due to the economy and such). A really nice hotel room with room service and its own restaurant is only a little more expensive than renting a room in NZ that looks like a jail cell. Meanwhile anyone thinking those apartments in NYC are good... are just delusional and I feel sorry for anyone thinking that way. They should be illegal. Moving to somewhere like the Philippines or Thailand is very tempting for me as it's just so insanely cheap compared to NZ (where I live) and they're beautiful countries too. Take $500,000 USD to buy a home in NZ and you'll only be able to afford a crack house in most places outside of Auckland.

If you are planning on moving to the Philippines, then you might want to still keep your job considering how poor the wages are here Also, if you are planning on living in the NCR (Metropolitan Manila), then your best bet are either Makati, Pasig, or Parañaque. Manila and Caloocan are a definite NO considering how bad traffic gets with trash on the road (unless you could find a good residential area) There is a reason why even in Metro Manila, you have people wearing their backpacks in front of them due to frequent stealing

I'd choose the JP house for the heated floor perk, fancy bidet and functioning smoke detector BUT I prefer the PH house for the overall space and i like the wide kitchen. If you had extra $$ to spare, you can avail a better bidet to replace the current one lol It would be nicer if the PH house had a top floor balcony with 1/3 covered with a roof. It'd be a great place to hold barbeques under the night sky + karaoke during the holidays. Water bill aside, the open area at the first floor would've made for a nice swimming pool.

Dude that Filipino house is better than the “Kubo” that my aunt built in the province. She paid $1M to have it built since she grew up in the province living in one. And since she works in the US, the one who tales care of everything is her siblings and parents. The materials, workers, everything was taken care of by them. And when she went back here for a vacation, she was disappointed because it was small, it was the size of 3 New york apartment that was first shown at 12:00. So she paid another $250k for an expansion the size of 2 more of the apartment i mentioned before.

If you’ve never visited/lived in Japan, some context! Walls are very thin and have no insulation. Unlike American houses there is also no central heating/air so having heated floors helps soooo much if you can afford it. There are a lot of old apartments and houses that don’t have this though. They also have space heaters, heated rugs, and the infamous kotatsu table to battle the cold winters!

I lived in an apartment in Queens in a bad neighborhood and we had 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom, a full living room, and a full kitchen with tons of closet space and space for a dining table. And now, for the same price, I live in a house with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms not including the rented space but now I’m in the suburbs of NY, in Long Island. NYC is literally a different world each and every block.

The norms of living conditions are defined by the demand usually. And the decency of the realtors/landlords Warmer countries probably have some sort of fan/ac or just having better insulated buildings with less window size towards the sun or something. Otherwise a lot heat do deal with. Meanwhile colder countries usually the norm in my area is that põacrs have double windows and all. Altho it is a headache in summer as we have so many big double windows towards the sun so it's like a sauna inside even with curtains.
